hey there, this question's for rottie owners so i'm not sure what category i was meant to post this in but here it goes... my male rottie's 7 months old this month and i just weighed him today and he weighs in at 28.08kgs and a lot of people that i've spoken to that have owned rotties say that he's on the smaller side but the thing is his mum, dad and grandpa are huge! he's on artemis fresh mix medium and large breed puppy and i give him 1 cup 3/4 in the morning and at night which the vet recommended to feed when he was on advance so i've kind of stuck to that amount but on the artemis nutrition guide it says i should be feeding him 4-5 cups 1/2, so should i be strictly following his current food guide and feeding him that much instead? could that be the reason why he's on the smaller side or could he be just a smaller rottie? he's very fit and well proportioned, you cannot see his ribs but you can definately feel them. any opinions, suggestions or advise would be greatly appreciated. cheers guys!

yay! good to hear. was pup startled from it the first time he got sprayed? i remember seeing my pup's face everytime he got sprayed, it was like "what the hell was that? mum, you're so mean!" and then everytime he'd consider going for the nip, he'd sort of stop for a second and remember what will happen if he goes for it and then he'd back off, lol. hope it continues to work out for you!

thank you! :D

belljari, that's so sad about your rotties and so many of them! hope my boy never gets it, it's quite scary.

hey there! i was at the dog park today with my puppy and i came across my obedience trainer, so i asked her what happens now that my puppy's 7 months (puppy classes are for puppies aged 4-6 months) and she said we spoke about you guys the other day and we've seen how good you are at obedience training so you guys could go straight to rally-o instead of grade 1, 2, 3 etc. but the thing is i'm not familiar with rally-o and what that means, is it a good thing? is it more advance than grades? so if anybody's familiar with this, is in it or has done it and could tell me a little bit about it, that'd much appreciated. thank you!

my bad, lol.

whoever does such things should get the death penalty. getting a warning, fined or jail time just isn't enough!

i can't find any pros and cons on the internet about it but there's a thread on here you could have a look at! http://www.dolforums.com.au/topic/16699-castration-vs-vasectomy/

thank you so much for this useful information! i'm so glad i listened to my breeder when she said do not neuter my puppy at 6 months (like vets say so) wait till he's at least 15-18 months mostly due to the increased risk of bone cancer and i strongly believe that because almost every single person i've spoken to that has owned a rottie they've died from some form of cancer and i guarantee that those dogs were neutered too early. i think people should do more research before jumping on what the vet says straight away because we all know they want their money there and now! funny that they never mention the negatives about desexing early, ain't it? i'm definately wary of vets now after one of my previous vets was pushing me into having my puppy operated on because she noticed "this and that" with his wrist along with a lot of other things where-as my current vet said that he doesn't see a problem at all with it and he should be fine! so if i was naive and listened to all the crap that comes out of every vets mouth, i would've ruined my puppy and would've been left with a huge and unecessary vet bill. so please everyone, do your research before jumping to any sort of conclusion and if there's ever a doubt in your mind about something get different opinions from a few vets, other people with dogs, suss the internet etc. but most importantly ask your breeder first!

so do i, humans can be so cold and ruthless! animals are so defenceless which is why f*****g idiots take advantage of it, i'm sensitive to any kind of animal cruelty because animals just don't deserve it -
For The Ladies...if You Own A Big Dog...
lovemyrottie replied to WillowGirl's topic in General Dog Discussion
lol, funny thread. i own a male rottie he's only 7 months and you can just tell he'll be a big boy but i'm so freaking tiny so i'll get the odd look or two but everyone knows he's mine cause he's only ever with me and i haven't had any doubtful remarks just yet but we'll see! i adore big dogs (especially rotties, of course!) i could never own a small dog. -

what goes around comes around, whoever did this will eventually get punished for their ruthless actions. -
thanks for the heads up! where do we buy from? i just bought mine off ebay from the uk but i'd rather buy from australia
-
exactly! that's why i had to get a baby gate and make sure they're always seperated cause i don't want no one-eyed puppy and a huge vet bill.
-
just make sure to keep the spraying consistent! lol, i have the same problem with pup and the cat! i don't think they'll ever be able to get along, it's such a shame cause i wish they would
-
you're welcome! just make sure to set the nozzle to spray and not jet, it really startles them and makes them think twice about doing it again. hope it works

Keeping Dog's Teeth Clean

hey there! i only found out about this product through the "plaque remover" thread on here and googled reviews on the internet about it with positive results so that's why i'm going to try it here's some quick info on it - plaque off for animals is a natural product, suitable for both cats and dogs. plaque off contains a special seaweed which is compressed into a granulated from, easy to add to your pet's food daily. plaque off is beneficial for oral health, helping to control bad breath, tartar and the build up of plaque. plaque off is absorbed into the bloodstream and helps saliva to efficiently dissolve tartar and prevent the formation of further layers. enriched with natural iodine with minerals and vitamins, plaque off contains no artificial ingredients. i ordered mine off ebay, http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/260853177540?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649 -

Collar Solutions For A Headstrong Bull Terrier
lovemyrottie replied to diesie821's topic in Puppy Chat
you're definately right! my rottie walks so beautifully on just a flat collar and people always tell me i should be using a slip collar, my response is he doesn't need one and i'd like to keep it that way but that was thanks to obedience training, it helps so much! so many people at training use slip collars but you can just tell that they don't even know how to use it properly hence all their dogs just keep pulling like crazy anyway. i'm not sure about haltis as most dogs i've seen at training with them absolutely hate wearing them making them walk even worse and i use to use a harness until a trainer told me that that'll only make your dog pull even more because he's basically trying to get out of it. i rekon just try a few things and see what works best for you -
i'm so jealous of people that have taught their dogs to be okay with having their teeth brushed

thanks everyone! i bought him turkey necks today but they were so huge that i had to cut them in half and they're still quite huge, lol. but i'll only be feeding it to him weekly as i think something so large everyday probably isn't the best thing cause then i'd have to majorly lower his dry food, i also ordered some of that plaqueoff powder so it should be all sweet :D -
i mix laundry powder and a little water (vet recommended in puppy school) in a spray bottle and spray over any "accidents", for me it works wonders!
