oh well, i'd never buy a staffy anyway.
-
If you were looking for a Stafford the puppy listings on this site would be one of the last places you'd want to look for a good breeder Note registered breeder is not the same as good breeder! why's that? about the staffy listing's on here, if you don't me asking.
-
As has been said a hundred times before - WHY NOT!!!!!!!!???????????? Genuine people who want a nice dog often not know how to find the good breeders so go to trading post gumtree etc because that's where they buy other things. If good breeders don't advertise their puppies in the places where people actually look then how are people ever going to find them? There's nothing wrong with advertising on ANY site, it's in the process that happens afterwards sorting the idiots from the genuine that counts. I bought my first dog out of the newspaper, back in the day when the pets & animals columns of newspapers were as long as the trading post lists of pets and animals are now. Please tell me - where ARE good breeders meant to advertise??? okay, thanks for clarifying that for me! i wasn't sure as the first site i looked on for a registered breeder was this one.
-
we probably could make millions from it, lol at german snow dogs! i was just looking on tradingpost at how many rotties there is for sale and some ask for $1,000 or over but they don't mention that they come with their parents' elbow and hip score certificates so are these people registered breeders or just backyarders trying to make big bucks? i thought registered breeders don't use sites like that to advertise sales
-
oh, i see! so anyone could be a registered breeder on there
-
lol, but it's true! oh, so apparently she's a registered breeder too? what's the world coming to?
-
i would've said to her, "how about i breed you with a f*****g elephant and let me know how you go popping those out!"

What Do You Do With Your Dogs When You Go Away?
lovemyrottie replied to aussielover's topic in General Dog Discussion
if pup can't come with me then i don't go either, i've got a weekend holiday booked soon but i made sure it's dog friendly so my little fella's coming with! -
huskies4life88, that's terrible! that was such an unprofessional response yet she claims she's something of an animal related profession, what a joke! in my opinion backyard breeding should be made illegal and there should be some kind of licensing to be able to own pets.
-
how ridiculous, why the hell would you want a rottie x jack russell for f**k's sake? some idiots just cross breed everything and anything together and i absolutely hate it!
-
this is great to hear :D i love pitties!
-
i totally agree!
-
jesus...
-
a border collie did this? wow! thought it would've been another pittie story or something.
-
yeah, i've seen some youtube videos where they train "watch" or whatever like that! i'll try it
-
i've seen and heard so many stories about people having their dogs off lead in their front yards or on their street etc. and then their dog would lunge at another person's dog that's just trying to peacefully walk their dog down the bloody street without any hassle! no offence but if some dickhead's dog did something like that to me or my dog, i'd absolutely kick the shit out of it and i know it's not the dog's fault but what else are you meant to do in that situation? maybe it'll make the owners realise what they did wrong! what the hell's wrong with people these days? so stupid and irresponsible, no wonder dogs get a bad name and it's all because of silly owners. now, as everyone's said letting a "knowingly" aggressive dog off leash is the stupidest thing somebody could do! where's your common sense? leave the dog at home and get professional help or you'll just ruin it for everybody else and give another dog a bad name, like we need more of that! i do adore people that take in rescue dogs it's sweet but do it right :D

thanks again guys! so far my plan is not to feed him anymore before training, exercise him a few minutes before training on the other side of the oval where we don't train so it's free from distractions (maybe a person or two which should be fine) and burn off some of his excess energy, start class while continuing to reward his "focus on me" if needed and if he goes well for at least 10 minutes or for how ever long he's co-operating then we'll take a break (while receiving funny looks from the instructor and others) and further ourselves from the distractions while continuing some more "focus on me" excercises (thinking of taking my clicker to reward as much eye contact as possible) then go from there... either continue training in short bursts or if he's really had enough we'll leave it at that because i'd rather a good 10 minute session than a bad 45 minute one! what do you guys think? any other suggestions? suziwong66, you're right! i probably do take it too serious, lol. and boxagirl, when you click eye contact do you have a cue like "watch" or just click eye contact on it's own? cheers :D

is anyone a part of or involved in the rottweiler club of sa obedience training that takes place thursday nights? i'm thinking of checking it out to see whether i like it better than my current obedience club. i'd love to know whether it's a good place, well structured and all that! i might go and suss it one night (sit on the side and watch) they welcome any breeds but because it's a rottweiler club they might have a better understanding of the specific breed than my obedience club. so, if anybody knows anything do let me know! cheers :D
-
will do! lol, this might sound dumb but what does IMO mean? and also, where do you get those stakes from and would they support a growing rottie? he's so strong already!
-
secretkei, oops! those videos pretty much explain engagement so i can see now that i need to work on that a bit more, great videos

thanks for everyone's input! we train every week and it runs for 45 minutes so it's quite a long time for a puppy, i know! a mistake i've been making is i feed him breakfast a while before training so he doesn't go there starving which would probably explain his "whatever" attitude towards his favourite treats. i was thinking of pulling away to the side when he's being a little brat to try and get his focus back on me but i know that as soon as we get back in he'll probably just do the same, try and play with the other dogs or get distracted by sniffing something! i mean, i could try it to calm him down/take a break and see how that goes he's pretty good with eye contact, he looks up at me every second or two because that's how they taught us to practice walking by rewarding them with a treat every time they give you eye contact. boxagirl, what exactly do you do to get your dog to "focus" on you? just eye contact and clicking or? and secretkei, what do you do to get your dog to "engage" with you? aussielover, i like your idea of leaving and doing training at home then going back to obedience training at a later date but then i'm worried he'll be even worse with wanting to play with other dogs when we do get back into it and he'll be an even bigger boy hence harder to control. and yes, if i could i'd love to go as far as i can with obedience! i forgot to mention, i had an instructor ask me if i wanted to participate in rally-o instead since it's not as "formal" as obedience and there's actually less people in that class which i do like but i don't know...
-
i have to vent a little! so last sunday me and pup graduated from grade 1 to 2 and now it's getting a little more formal with heeling but what frustrates the crap out of me is since he's so young (6 months) he keeps trying to play with the dogs around him even though we'd say "working" before we start training so it's a major distraction and sometimes it gets pretty hard to get his attention back to me when he's got his eyes on a dog he wants to play with or when he finds an interesting scent in the grass and digs his nose in it that he won't even listen to me! i say "leave it" and pull him back to me, is that what i should be doing or does anyone have any other tips, advise or tricks for what they do when that happens? when he gets a little worn out then he listens to me through almost the rest of training but up until then it can become a bit of a struggle (although he's not as bad as some dogs there but)! he's only a pup, i know. but, will this behaviour wear off as he gets older and desensetizes to the dogs around him? that'd probably take forever anyway being a larger, slower maturing breed. another thing that makes him lose his co-operation is this warmer weather so i'll look into buying him a cool jacket from silver eagle (bloody expensive those things!) but hopefully it'll be worth it over spring and summer, has anyone got one of those for their dogs and is it worth it? thank you very much for taking your time to read my thread :D here's a photo of him and his rottie mate wrestling when we were in puppy class, training really paid off!

The Best Seat In The House

lol, cats are so random! here's mine -
lol, i totally agree! it's like facebook but better because we all have at least one thing in common, we love dogs! :D
-
thanks for the advise guys! i'm actually glad most of you said a bigger age gap's better cause i wasn't planning to get another one anytime soon but in the future when i save up some money for another one, and everything that comes with it. i just thought all the people that have a few dogs had them all grow up together but i don't think i could manage two puppies at once, too much bloody work! reason i want another one is cause i'm just so freaking in love with rotties. if i could, i'd have 10 of them!
