  1. I don't think you understand how much hassle it is for a landlord to get money out of tenants, even getting the bond can be difficult. If you have to go to court you have to pay $250 which is not recoverable from the tenant and judges will depreciate the value of whatever has been damaged to the point where you will not be able to fix the damage with the amount awarded to you.
  2. I take the dog to the beach daily. Throw the ball into the water = dog washed lol. It keeps him smelling good enough and the only time he gets a proper bath now is when he's found something to roll himself in and make himself smell "nice"
  3. Both the poster and the forum owner can be sued. The one thing that confuses me with this case is how the RSPCA was able to sue for defamation. The law as far as i know only allows companies/organisations with less than 10 employees to sue for defamation(there are other suits which companies use to get around that). I'm guessing RSPCA NSW would employ more than 10 people? Would be interested to know how they got around that.
  4. Someone should point out to clubsprint that of the 33 dog attack fatalities since 1979 in Australia,2 were attributed to pitbull or pitbull crosses. Someone should also ask clubsprint what he plans to do about the other 31 deaths
  5. It sounds to me like your dog is protecting you. i.e your dog was happily playing with a big dog at the park but when your dog came back to you for a pat and then the other dog came over he reacted - same deal at the market, your dog was happy interacting with the other dog until you got close to untangle the leads. My neighbours dog does the same with his family. He will happily play with my staffy jack when they're alone or near me, but he won't let jack go near his family - luckily jack is polite and just walks away. Only you will know whether this is right or not, does he only ever react to other dogs when you are nearby?
  6. My dog was vaccinated at 6, 12 and 18 weeks, then again at 12 months and i was told(by the vet) he needed vaccinating yearly. Is my vet telling me porkies? edit : just in case that came across wrong, i am genuinly interested and can see some logic behind the "over vaccinated" argument - i assume it is like the over prescription of antibiotics in humans?
  7. That is a bit dangerous. I would just keep dog and children well apart and see the behaviourist. How else do you teach a dog that it mustn't react to children taking food away? Obviously it needs to be a very controlled situation but i don't see any other way. I'm not a professional dog trainer but thats the way i've always done it - of course if the dog is so reactive that you not 100% sure you can control the situation then it wouldn't be the way to do it(and if you've let it get to that stage well you need education on owning dogs), but a 7 yr old can easily step back if the dog starts to show aggressive body language(the owner needs to be telling their daughter to stop and move away and be close enough to step in between the child and dog if need be). The owner needs to decide whether such measures are possible or not. As i say, i'm not a professional dog trainer so my comments are for entertainment purposes only LOL
  8. I'm far from any expert but i'd be teaching your daughter how to act dominantly with the dog and then closely supervising your daughter doing things like taking food/bones off the dog(where you are still in a position to take control if need be) and other activities where the dog learns that it is lower in the pack than your daughter. Teaching the dog where her place is in the pack with respect to your other dogs, well thats harder and i honestly can't really suggest anything other than a behaviourist. My staffy learnt quickly that he was lower in the order than human children by close supervision(i.e within grabbing distance in case the need arose) with my nephew when my dog was still a pup and my nephew was still crawling. Time and effort, but i think you need to get onto it asap, the longer you leave it, the harder it will be to correct. Also, i wouldn't be making excuses for your dog(on heat or anything else), there is no excuse for snarling at a human she knows imo.
  9. So in one breath you say that the majority of attacks are most likely not pitbulls but were mongrel crosses of completely different breed, yet in the next you suggest that BSL will work? So which breeds do we need to rid society of in order to stop dog attacks - especially given the statistics from a researcher at the monash uni which says that of 33 fatal dog attacks since 1979, ONLY 2 were pitbull or pitbull crosses? Isn't it time to make laws to make people train, socialise and contain their dogs?
