staffylover81 replied to Levi's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Hey Levi, I train at Metro and also at Teamwork i am in the trialling class at Teamwork with my 7 month Border who will be doing Obedience and Agility when she is older, I can recommend going to Teamwork they do some marching up and down but not a lot you can give Teamwork a call and just have a chat with Maureen and she can tell you more about and point you in the right direction of where you want to go. -

Yes the BOM does not look good right now i work about 10 mins away from Chermside and it has just started raining hopefully with Metro being in what we like to call the Vortex ie if it is raining somewhere else usually it is not raining at Metro. Keeping fingers crossed that the rain will hold off till after training finishes but who knows and besides if you trial you have to train in all kinds of weather as you never know what you get. -

I shall be there tonight with Saxon and Myf not sure if i am instructing tonight if i am not i will be in Class 1 with the rat bag Myf and hopefully in the Advanced Class with Sax. Keeping fingers crossed that it is not rained out tonight and i shall see you all tonight for the start of training. -
I do wrong courses all the time in a trial at the Gold Coast i went to i totally forgot to do 2 jumps in the jumpers and it wasn't until i crossed the finish line and the judge looked at me that he said you forgot to do 2 jumps and i asked him which one's they were and he pointed them out i could of almost died and wanted to crawl into a hole so don't feel bad if you do a wrong course people do it all the time it just makes for funner moments.
-
You can hold onto your dog while your partner is running there half of the course in pairs and walk them over to where you need to be for your turn but do watch your partner and their dog for any dropped bars as you do need to go and send your dog over that jump before continuing. When i run pairs i make sure that i walk my section/s as well as my partners just in case i do need to go and do there section if they do drop a bar etc.

I shall see you at Caboolture Yacketts Mum i shall look for you and all your dogs i shall have an 8 month old Sable Border Collie and a 11 year old Staffy X who by the way does not look or act like she is 13 with me. Yacketts Mum i would enter all the games at Mt Gravatt just to have a go so you know what all the games are and also it is great fun to. I will be going in all the games at Mt Gravatt with the exception of Pairs if i do not find a partner before then I am still in the Novice classes for Snooker and Gamblers. I missed my first Q in Gamblers cause i forgot to go to the Gamble when the whistle went and continued doing jumps but i shall do better this time and hopefully come away with a Q if not it will be a good laugh for everyone and myself on not what to do in a Gamblers course.
-
I will be entering the Mt Gravatt trial but won't be entering the pairs unless i can find someone that has a dog that can jump 400 and has there novice title so i can go in Excellent. I am not going to Redlands on the weekend totally forgot that it was on the next trial i am looking at doing is Caboolture. The rules are pretty easy to understand but when you get out there and do it that is a different story the first time i entered the games i had no idea what i was doing and i just watched the other people ahead of me to see what they were doing and followed them thank dog i was not first in the ring The hardest thing to do is get your dog to focus on you when they are more interested in the other dog than you i would keep working on that focus and with any luck you will be entering the pairs at Mt Gravatt.
-
No Worries it is so much fun i love doing the games as it is something to break up just the normal agility and jumping it is a bit hard to work out if you have never seen it before I went to a few trials where they had the games going and watched what was going on and asked other people how it worked and then once i understood how it worked i entered. I do believe there is a trial coming up in March at Mt Gravatt in which they will be running Strategic Pairs and maybe Gamblers.
-
Hi Yackets Mum I am currently competing with my older dog in Strategic Pairs and Gamblers as well as Snooker, I just got my Novice Pairs title last year and am still working on Gamblers and Snooker. Here is a link to the rules etc of all the Games ie Pairs, Gamblers, Snooker. I am currently looking for a new Partner for Pairs for Excellent. I hope this helps you. http://members.iinet.net.au/~timabi/acwa/ANKCGamesRules.pdf

First Agility Trial Of The Year
staffylover81 replied to Nicole...'s topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Hi Ahh I didn't know you were on dogzonline! we were having a great chat walking out of the Excellent walking.. i'll give saxon that 13 and running like a pro!! Well we had an amazing night.. not a Q to be seen but some great work from both boys Denver I'm so proud of the opening sequence he gave me and then it kinda went down hill lol with me tensing up and then him making sure that I was okay. . What I was more proud of was Den going to take a jump in the neighboring ring and coming back when I called him.. that was my biggest fear annoying the other ring! Jock considering he's getting on and he hasn't been well gave me some great runs, DQed Ex jumping cos mummy was stupid and didn't push him out to the tunnel in time.. and 1 refusal in Excellent agility Which i was not happy bout but now I look at the vid and I can kinda see where the judge was coming from.. annoyed at myself though ;) Open jumping was great until the concept of distance.. jock decided he wanted to be a Velcro boy.. But still he got 2/2 sets of weaves and he was just running and enjoying himself! which is all I want from him ever! Can't wait for next weekend.. am I gonna see anyone else there?? Big congrats to Yackets mum for her amazing debut.. Biscuit was amazing and I couldn't be more thrilled for her! I didn't realise that was you smisch who i was chatting to you had some really great runs with jock he is doing great. Yes Saxon is doing well for a 13 year old and everyone who sees her can't believe that she is really 13 with the way she is running and still getting under the course time that is of course when i can direct her correctly and don't stuff up my hand work. I do think that she will be competing for a few more years still as she really loves doing Agililty. -

I had a good night last night even though we did not get any quali's we had 2 great runs in Agility and Jumping Excellent, Saxon only dropped 2 bars in Agility and she went in the tunnel the wrong way in Jumpers but apart from that was really happy with her runs. Nic - I saw Lomani's runs and she did great if your not sure who i was last night i was the person that was standing beside you with the staffy before you went into the ring for Agility and Bond is my girl Myf's cousin. -

Yeah I emailed off 2wks ago and haven't had a reply either - we'll definately be there though. Although i'm becoming more and more nervous about my brat of a GSD creating a scene - lol. It'd be great to get together with all the other Metro dogs and their people before we all start, that way we'd know some familiar faces and let our woofers mingle and make freinds before they're expected to behave - anyone interested? I was thinking saturday afternoon at Kroll Gardens? I am sure someone from the club will be contacting everyone who has sent off emails and have called soon about training. Nic don't worry about your GSD all the dogs will be crazy the first night just remember if you are coming down the first night as a new member don't bring your dogs as the first night is an intro night where we take you through the club rules, give you a tour around the grounds and let you watch each class and if you have your dog with you it is hard to listen to what we are saying when your dog is going crazy. I would recommend going onto the metro website and printing off an application form and filling it in so you can just come up to the clubhouse on the first night and hand in and pay your joining fee etc as the monday is going to be quite busy for us and it makes our job go faster at the desk if everything is ready to go. I would love to get together with all the new people that are thinking about joining so we at least know who each other are. I can't do this Saturday arvo for a get together as i am out at an agility trial with my older girl. -

As far as i've heard she's still got her legs crossed - my theory is she's figured out how they come out and decided she's not going to let it happen HAHA that sounds like our Swaz she better have them soon otherwise they are going to be over cooked. Huski i will keep an eye out for the woo woo wooing beagle at training i do think that Myf is part beagle as she does the woo woo wooing as well -

I did go to Metro on their fun and games night to have a look - i'm freinds with one of the instructors - Sam? And her darling Swaz! Sophie was ok for about 40mins but after a kelpie dressed as a fairy had a go at her she started freaking out anytime another dog came near her *sigh* she'll be the death of me. And I think I remember someone pointed out "the cutest puppy ever" called Myf! Her fame proceeds her! Sam and I are good mates i doubt that Swaz will be down as she is about to have puppies in fact she may have already had them but i am sure that Sam might be down at metro. Yes well "the cutest puppy ever" is my girl and everyone who meets her wants to take her home she may look cute but in reality she is satin i am always trying to sell her off to people at the club i do love my girls even thou at times they are a pain in the butt. Huski i am sure that i have seen Daisy at training i just didn't realise that it was you we will all have to come up and introduce each other on the first night of training. -

Can't wait to see you all at metro the first monday of Feb if you want to find me just look for the sable border collie pup and i shall be around her somewhere although you may not be able to see her as there will be lots of people around her as she is pretty popular down there due to her colour or you can just look for the staffy's tied out and that is where i will be. Don't worry about your GSD Nic i am sure you will be fine the last GSD that i was holding for someone down at the club took me for a wonderful slide down the hill at metro it was quite funny had alot of people laughing at me. -

What Treats Do You Use For Training?
staffylover81 replied to macka's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Hi macka For training i use a wide range of food from Cheese,Kabana,Liver treats,Natures gift. I use pretty much anything that my dogs will respond to. I have an 11year old Staffy Cross and a 3 month old Border Collie for the Border Collie because she has just started training i am using Cheese and Kabana as they are really tasty for a little puppy as for my 11 year old i don't really give her treats anymore as she is fully trained so don't need to give her treats all that much anymore, I only give her Cheese or Kabana if she has done something really well sort of like a jackpot for a good training session. -
I am not to exhausted as i was when i first got my now 12 week old border collie she can pretty much hold in her wees and poos at night now thank god i didn't like waking up in the middle of the night to take her downstairs to go toilet ;) She now pretty much plays all days and sleeps all night, i am still having the chewing of everything in the house i just had to get a wireless keyboard and mouse today as i found out that she chewed through my other one yesterday there have been moments that i have wanted to give her away but then i think what a joy she is to have around she always wants to be with you and she is a delight to train that is when she is not being naughty i wish she didn't have to grow up but i know when she does she is going to be a wonderful dog. Here is a photo of her getting eaten by her brother.

Surgery For Tumours And Resting
staffylover81 replied to staffylover81's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Thanks for the advice everyone, Crating it will have to be for her until she is healed. I've stopped the Obedience and Agility with her until she has recovered, I'm just waiting for the vet now to give me a call with the path results i'm hoping everything is going to be ok she may need to go back in for surgery again and get a drain inserted where she had the tumor taken out as the fluid hasn't gone away yet, I might ask the vet what he thinks about surgery when they call me about the results hopefully i can wait and not have to bring her down until friday when i have to take her down to get her stitches out. Poor little thing looks so sad just laying in her crate but i guess it's all for the best if it means she will be back up and running for me to do agility and obedience again. -
Hi Guys, Just posting this as i'm not to sure what to do with my Staffy Girl atm, she went in on Tuesday to the vet and had surgery to take out a Tumor on her side and a small fatty lump the surgery went well and i am now just waiting on the results to come back from vet tomorrow as to what the tumor is, I'm keeping fingers crossed that it's not CANCER, anyway the vet told us to rest her post surgery so we have been trying to keep her exercise, walking around and jumping to a minimum but that is hard to do with my girl as she does agility and obedience and is used to being active. When i got home from work on friday i found that where the vet had taken out the tumor she has now got a build up of fluid that is twice the size of what the tumor was so i took her down to the vet on Saturday Morning to get her checked out and they took out 15ml of blood where the tumor was and put her on antibiotices and i'm hoping that this will decrease the fluid from the wound etc and she won't have to go and get more fluid taken out and they told me to also rest her as much as i can so i have her in her crate allmost all day just laying there and making sure she doesn't jump up on the couches or run around etc, I'm just wondering if i should be crating her or not as i don't want this fluid to build up anymore than it is, as it is it's looking like i'll be taking her back down to the vet during the week to get more fluid taken out again as it hasn't gone down yet. I'm just getting a little worried that if i don't crate her she is going to get more fluid building up where she had the tumor removed from jumping up on the couches etc, but i also don't wan't her to be crated 24-7 as i think this is a bad idea for her too. I could really use some advice on what other people think about this and if they have any other suggestions on what they think i might be able to do?
