  1. Yes, the tins are rather expensive thankfully the kibble is fairly competitively priced. My dogs seem to like it (though two of the four would/ do eat anything) the other two seem to be quite impressed as well though They are on the white fish and sweet potato and the kelpie also gets their puppy.
  2. My local one had a pretty good turn out. LOTS of swfs, but a good range of others too. I saw a Borzoi, a Frenchie ( or possibly a Boston, it was across the oval.) a bloodhound, a couple of Danes (one who was very skinny) , a Maremma who definitely needed a good brush ( and possibly a clip ) a clipped Afghan, and my favorite! Three Bernese Mountain Dogs, two of which were puppies I didn't see any out and out aggression, but do see quite a few 'owner fails' like one man who's dog was off leash for almost the whole thing (and running amok) and a lady from the dog park (who I unfortunately happen to know) who allowed her young male cattle dog off 'for a swim' because the walk went through an off leash area, so that makes it ok didn't seem to matter that he then run around annoying walkers and mounting dogs
  3. I'm not very good at guessing breeds..... But I must say they are VERY cute!
  4. Cleo is beautiful! You should come and join the Kelpie subforum! The more the merrier :D and don't forget that on DOL lots of photos are mandatory! lol!
  5. I have seen this recently (not on DOL) and thought it was FABULOUS! I wonder where I can get one? Any DOLer willing to make me.....erm, my dog one?
  6. Does he like to play fetch/ chase balls? I've got a ball obsessed dog and have considered buying him an automatic ball thrower thingy and teaching him to reload it. Unfortunately he is soooo ball obsessed he would run himself into the ground, so hence, he doesn't have one!
  7. He is lovely. Did you import him? Is he the only one in Australia?
  8. I do both too. I also find myself narrating for them a lot too they each have their own 'voice'.
  9. So it's in store now Teebs? Ooooohhhh! I'll have to pick some up :D N Ben and Jerry its supposed to be pretty good....
  10. Thanks guys, I think I'll try a plastic one first, Reggie likes to chomp sticks...... That and they seem to be cheaper, so if it dies It wont really matter..... One other question, should the dumbbell be used only for training the retrieve/ during the exercise? Or is it ok to play with it at other times?
  11. I am having trouble choosing a dumbbell for my Kelpie. I am feeling pretty stupid because I'm not sure how to measure his mouth. I know I need to allow room for his lips in the width, but have been told it shouldn't be too wide either. Also how do I know the best 'thickness' for his comfort? Or does it not really matter? And last question(s) what material is best? Plastic? Wood? If so what type? And does colour matter? Thanks in advance for answering my ignorance. :)
  12. I second the vote for Ruthless Leather! They make wonderful stuff!
  13. thanks I will try giving him a good bath, so far I haven't found that he seems to need more regular bathing, he doesn't seem to get a doggy smell, or particularly dirty, and if he does it dries then it all falls off. :) In regards to the 48 hrs either side, I usually use sentinel or comfortis so usually don't have to worry about that. Though I did make sure it was 48hr from his last swim, which was actually early Wednesday >.< not Thursday, (stupid brain) and he was treated Friday night. Can grain allergies just pop up? And are there other signs/symptoms I can watch out for? He has been on other foods that have higher grain content and He has never had a problem before?
  14. I'm sure this topic has been done to death, but Reggie has dandruff! ARGH! I've only noticed it over the last couple of days, and one of the 'vet-check' ladies at dog training today mentioned it. Reggie is a Black and Tan Kelpie, and has a beautiful soft, shiney coat normally. His coat is still shiney and looks good.... apart from all the dandruff! I can't think of anything that could have caused this. Diet -Combo of raw and Holistic select, though the bag I'm using is a different flavour- chicken (I usually use the fish one). I've been using it for more than a few weeks though. -Fish (tuna, salmon, sardines or a combo of the three) or an egg at least two times a week. -Fish oil almost daily. I haven't seen any fleas and a couple of days ago I "Advantaged" all of them. He does scratch a little bit, but not overly so. Though I have noticed he licks himself a bit. He hasn't been bathed recently (not for months), the last time he went swimming was Thursday. I can't figure it out! The dandruff looks horrible, so I would like to get rid of that, are there any recommendable shampoos etc? I also know that the dandruff more of a symptom, so need to find out the underlying cause.
  15. Oh my God! That is disgusting! poor boys. It truly is amazing that they are still alive!
  16. I'm looking at Book Depository *drool so many books, free postage with the added bonus of 10% off for April/May! :D I've also looked at tuxedo Bookshop, Tuxedo Bookshop, but they have mostly equine and veterinary books. (Interesting though!) My mum is an avid reader as well and she uses Abbey's Bookshop. Abbey's Bookshop There seems to be quite a lot of dog books on there, unfortunately I'm not sure if any of them are worth getting. Anyone tried either of these sites? Sigh it's too hard picking which ones I want! Oh, and are there any must haves?
  17. Thanks guys, I will definitely check out those sites! Shopping spree hear I come! :D I don't have a kindle, I would love one but I think it would be VERY dangerous for my bank account! ...... but I might have to look into that......
  18. I LOVE books! and am interested in getting more dog related (non-fiction) books. I know about Cleanrun and Tawser, which have some good ones, but postage seems to be pretty steep. So I am looking for somewhere with low (i.e. reasonable) postage and a good range. Any ideas? I don't think I can wait for a Cleanrun free postage promo!
  19. I'm also guilty of browsing the puppies/breeds listings There are SO many fascinating dog breeds out there! MOst of my list truly are dreams, as I doubt the suitability of them for me. SOme there are some breeds I DEFINITELY want to have! I always have a sticky at: Afghan Australian Kelpie (working line though) Got one of these, Reggie is an awesome dog, though he is yet to have a go with sheep.... Basset Hound Bloodhound Borzoi Bracco Italian Chinese Crested French Bulldog Greyhound Ibizan Hound Italian Greyhound Neapolitan Mastiff I truly ADORE these guys! Nova Scotia Dock Tolling Retriever Otterhound Pharaoh Hound Saluki Sealyham Terrier Sussex Spaniel Swedish Vallhund Welsh Springer Whippet Xoloitzcuintle Jusr a few! ahhh well I can dream!
  20. Well the customer is always right. I know because I often buy stuff. :D You could try reverse psychology and point out to her that 'Advocate Plus' also vaccinates your dogs for two years against all the known diseases. :D My vet told me when I arrived here that fleas are immune to Frontline in this area. So I find out that Big W sells Frontline at half the price. It makes me wonder if the fleas are paid a commision from the vet. :D Thankfully we dont have paralysis ticks, if we did I would have said a lot more! Its hard somtimes with customers outside of work. Ive noticed a lot of them treat you like youre still there to serve them...sigh. Unfortunately for them out of work, i have opinions and rights too!
  21. I frequent my local dog park (obviously not for the company) and there are some (ok, quite a few) "Know-it-all" people there. Most of the time I bite my tongue about their high and mighty (often wrong or ridiculous) opinions. Well today one of the ladies was going on about how she bathed her dog today, so that in two days time she could be on her Super Duper Advocate and, then that she wouldn't be able to give him another bath until next month. I told her that the spot-ons are waterfast after 48+ hr. Oh ho! Well she KNEW that blah, blah, blah. Then proceeded to tell the people who were around that it does fleas, mites etc, ALL worms and TICKS! I should have just shut up but moved on.... but she was irritating me and misinforming others. So I (politely)informed her, more for the benefit of the surrounding people, that Advocate DOESN'T do all the worms i.e. doesn't do tapeworms, and that it DEFINITELY DOESN'T DO TICKS!! I work in Pet Supplies so have a pretty god knowledge of flea/tick/worm etc products. This lady knows this as she has come into work quite a few times and asked for my opinion/advice. I thought maybe she had just confused products, maybe with Advantix. So I asked if she had to apply it 2-weekly for ticks. Well, apparently hers only needs to be applied monthly for ticks and does everything else she said too. And she would know! She then went on to add that her's is actually called "Advocate Plus" and is ONLY available through the vet..... blah, blah, rant, rave (at that point I gave up and moved on before I got riled up) I apologise for the L O N G rant. Long story short- IS there a product that does all this? called "Advocate Plus?" I don't believe so, I couldn't find anything online etc. but if someone could set me straight? It's more for my own justification than anything else!
  22. Sunday 20th may. Locations can be found on their website. http://www.millionpawswalk.com.au/
  23. I am planning on going to my local one. Even though I'm definitely not rapt about the RSPCA, it should be a fun day out (hopefully!)
