Reflective Night Wear
Chequeredblackdog replied to Chequeredblackdog's topic in General Dog Discussion
Ooo! These look good, but I really want something that can be used in summer too. I think the BC might overheat wearing one. Yes! How well do they stay on? And would they be obscured by a long coat? -
Ive discovered that I really like walking in the dark :D my dogs all have Rogz collars with the reflective strip through them, but as 3of the 4 have long hair you can hardly see them, if at all. Obviously this isn't much good as I (and others) can't see them. I know I've seen reflective leg bands and vests somewhere, but can for the life of me remember where any sites/ places I can get them, and alternative suggestions are more than welcome.

I only heard of Hundream Kennels. I'm not if they are any other breeders in Australia, someone else may know better though! You could contact Hundream and ask if they know of other breeders and can put you in contact with them. Good luck with your search.

Peta Group And "violent" Attacks On Fish?
Chequeredblackdog replied to Squidgy's topic in In The News
That's my thinking too. While I may not agree with the way fishing is often implemented, relating it to domestic violence is, in my mind, rather offensive and degrading. -
Peta Group And "violent" Attacks On Fish?
Chequeredblackdog replied to Squidgy's topic in In The News
I just saw that too. seriously WTF????? -
Yes that's what I was wondering about, I have heard about Dobes and Kelpies having problems with alopecia, does this apply to breeds what blues/ dilutes are more common? For example the colour of the Neapolitan Mastiffs seem ( at least in Australia) to be predominantly blue. Are they as effected by the associated problems that seem come with being blue? Or is there 'different blues'?
-
Not sure if this has been addressed in a previous thread, if so please ignore this one! I know blue SBTs get a bad rap for their colour- not conforming to breed standard, skin issues, appeal for their "rarity" and being overpriced, but is this the case with ALL blue/ dilute colored dogs, regardless of breed? For example Neapolitan Mastiffs, Great Danes, Border Collies and Whippets? Does the dilution gene simply cause problems Or does it only become a problem when people breed solely for colour? In this instance I'm more interested in the health aspects rather than the other issues of price etc.

Lol. I like this thread  Reggie is an opportunist. If its within reach apparently it belongs to him! He has snaffled cupcakes, sandwiches, a whole Camembert cheese and does a lovely job of washing any left out plates Rocky is also a foodie, though a very lazy one. More often than not he will just stare intently at a piece of food, secretly knowing that if he just stares hard enough surely the sandwich/cake/ roast lamb will levitate into his mouth His best score was 'the epic cheesecake disappearance'. My mums beautiful (and very scrumptious) giant cheesecake was accidentally left unattended on the coffee table while we got drinks. On coming back, Rocky was found to be stealthy approaching his prey, the cheesecake. I think I let an O M G! ROCKY! DON'T YOU EVEN THINK ABOUT IT!!! But it was too late.... He literally INHALED 3/4 of the giant cheesecake

Garbage bins, have used them for years, not even my dogs can chew through them!! Usually leave food in bag and just drop in, use cereal containers in house and just refill when empty Currently have one for the labs food but I find the lid doesn't seal well. So that is why I'm looking for something else. I'd be worried about mice chewing through the sack? I store food in the carport, away from the dogs but we have mice in the carport. Oooo I really like these! Wonder if any stores in Perth sell them .. I have a couple of these, in different sizes. I think they're great. If you have a cat make sure to check that the lis is shut! More than once ive found my cats in with the food! I'm no help, i got mine at Petbarn too.

They sound good! May I ask where you got them from?

Chequeredblackdog replied to Skruffy n Flea's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Food bowls are stainless steel with rubber bottoms. Water bowls inside are ceramic, did have a metal bucket..... But the kitten kept falling it in. Sigh. The cats prefer to drink from my fish tank  Outside we havE an old square sink that holds heaps of water, also bath tubs for the sheep. -

Stopping The Serial Coat Muncher
Chequeredblackdog replied to Chequeredblackdog's topic in General Dog Discussion
He sleeps outside either in an undercover sheltered verandah, or down in the shed where the (4) dogs have the choice of crates, trampoline beds and a kennel. My parents do not like dogs in the house at night. We have a poultry stud so they like a dog outside to ward off foxes etc. which in my opinion is stupid, as the pens are secure and the dogs are asleep anyway! I'll have to see if They will allow a crate inside. Unfortunately he kills bedding too though newspaper might be an idea. Would hay/straw work the same way? -
As it has been getting very cold (in the minuses)I have been (attempting to) coat my Kelpie Reggie. Reggie is 11ish months old and never stops, hence he has very little/ no extra body fat. He does seem to shiver when it is freezing cold so i have been persisting. When coated he seems snug enough when put to bed, and is happy to wear a coat under supervision/semi supervision. (I havent tried leaving one on him during the day as its not needed.) without fail by morning the coat will be off and/ or mauled. I have tried different types of coats but have given up at the moment as it is getting expensive. Is there a way to stop him killing his coats?

Sa Dog Owners Of Medium To Large Breeds.
Chequeredblackdog replied to Esky the husky's topic in General Dog Discussion
Nawwwh that's sounds likes fun I'd love to give it a go, pity I'm in nsw. Is there an age limit for sledding? Only dog I have that is possibly suitable is 11. And I'm assuming my kelpie (who is too young anyway) wouldnt be 'breed suitable'? -
Do Your Dogs Give You "presents"?
Chequeredblackdog replied to Squidgy's topic in General Dog Discussion
I get tennis balls....though I don't know if they really count as Reggie only bring them to me so I can throw it for him. If they are confiscated, he will show up within a minute with another one! Our kitten Angelo loves to play with him too, when Reggie has had enough of his various body parts being munched on he picks up Angelo by the scruff and delivers him to the nearest human, with a look of 'here he's your problem now!' -
