  1. I did a test feed with 1.. I heard 1 crunch then it went straight down.. she didn't choke which was good! I might just hand feed them and make sure she chews them. Btw she does get 1 Beef bone a week
  2. Hi All, Just wondering if its safe to feed a 18week golden retriever chicken wings with the bone still there Cheers
  3. Rosey had her booster shot and check up last week and the Vet was trying to push Hills Science diet on us saying "they have done the research regarding hip displacement" which Golden Retrievers do suffer. I don't really want to go back to Hills as Rosey turned her nose up at it
  4. I was just wondering if black hawk is good for golden retrievers in terms of their hips etc as they are known to have issues later on down the track. I had a look at the local listed supplier and its $89.99 for 20kb Puppy formula, is that around the average price?
  5. I miss judged how much I fed Rosey and now only feed recommended and now she inhales her food... and started giving her 1 bone a week to Also noticed alot of loose skin when she was eating to much
  6. Rosey was fine with the car trips when going to puppy school but we slacked off after the school had finished and no longer took her on car trips and now we are back to square one, as we took her for a trip to the pet store and she was sick on the way back.... but 1 thing I found might have made it worse was that she was standing up in her little carry pod instead of lying down in it.. I might try the Ginger biscuits/tablets
  7. Hi All, I've had Rosey (Golden Retriever) on Nutro Natural Choice Large Breed Puppy (Chicken & Rice) for over a month now and her stool's are still the size of my palm.. I thought Premium food was meant to reduce the size of a dog's stool... If Nutro is not working my only other choices are really Royal Canin or Canidae..
  8. I've found that my puppy is a slow eater, she will just eat her kibble over time or if shes really hungry it will be gone in 10mins or so.. I also found chicken jerky treats work very well as she goes crazy for them.. to the point that I've got to start training her to take the treat softly.. not snapping it out of my hand while my fingers are still holding it !
  9. Rosey has been going to puppy school the past 3weeks with no problems and shes 11weeks on tuesday
  10. My puppy barks and growls when I ignore her as well. When she was still inside she used to try and jump on the couch... got pretty bad in the end when we were eating dinner she used to jump up and get her front paws on my tray and try to get at my food! Id give her a firm NO! but she kept doing it.. thats something you really cannot ignore while trying to eat! She got a time out after that. I found everything she did was to get attention... oh and tried those stay off sprays.. none of them worked
  11. I did mix in chicken necks at lunch and chicken mince/rice with dinner. Might do a mince breaky to use up the rest of the mince
  12. actually didn't end up getting Advance. Trying Nutro Natural Choice Large Breed Puppy... so far so good, her poop doesn't smell anymore
  13. Going to return the Hills diet today and try out the Advance. You know Rosey has barely touched the Hills since I started mixing it in last Wednesday and not to mention her poop absolutely stunk
  14. Take the Hills back to the pet store, its 100% money back if the dog doesn't like it. Maybe give it a few more days and then take it back to the shop saying you've given it a good go. I work in a pet store - they HAVE to give you money/exchange etc as they get a credit from Hills. Learnt quite a lot this year, especially about reading the ingredients list - grains in higher % than meat is a worry, as is the case with Hills and some Advance unfortunately. We've had great success with EP Holistic Select in store with skin issues, but I personally am switching to Black Hawk Holistic for my dal pup (won't be telling the boss that :D ) I might do that actually, and try the Advance kibble
  15. Well I was informed that 1 ingredient was a carcinogenic. Last couple of meals Rosey has been turning her nose up at Science diet food... this morning she barely touch it and last night she left half of her dinner I might look at another type of kibble. Or is it possible to create my own diet with chicken pet mince, vegies etc?
  16. Well the breeder told me that red meat would make her constipated and shorten her life span...
  17. well I dropped into a pet store on the way home after starting this thread. The person gave me the options of Royal Canin, Pro plan, Science diet and Barf... It was also mentioned there was 1 ingredient in Royal Canin that is a little suspect interms of cancer... I only picked up a small bag of science diet to try it out as rosey had a habbit of trying to eat her stool which means something was missing out of her diet.. I also dont want to feed my puppy red meat.
  18. Is it possible to do say 1 meal a day with raw food etc?
  19. Well from what I've heard Weatbix is just a filler, if you include milk in your puppys diet make sure its lactose free otherwise your puppy will get the runs? I started with supercoat with my puppy and now I'm avoiding it like the plague. That diet seems a little overboard....
  20. Yeah they do but only for Adults.. I picked up some food today.. Hills Science Diet for Puppy's, already started to mix it in with the supercoat
  21. Hi all, At the moment my puppy is on supercoat for puppys as the breeder started her off on it and its free of chemicals. I'm now looking for a "premium" puppy food, it will get mixed with chicken necks at lunch and chicken mince/rice with peas & carrots. Cheers James.
