I remember reading this a few months ago. My new GSD girl is called Thea also :) The Abbey Thea sounded like a wonderful example of the breed, a real sweetheart. Sounds like she had a wonderful life. Sharon has bred some awesome dogs.

Saw him on the news again last night :) He is an awesome example of this great breed :)

For me personally its easy to do a once a year injection and that is it. I am so paranoid i may forget to give a mnthly tablet for it ect. I have all my dogs done on the yrly injection and have never had a problem. I got my new girl injected at 6mnths and didnt have any problem with her either :)

There were signs up around one section of our walk this am from a woman whose small dog was attacked and died on the way to hospital the other night She described the dog as what she thought was a staffy x that was being walked by children when it slipped it collar and charged the woman and her dog and attacked it. She was appealing for ppl to phone her ect if they recognised the dog. Very sad, ppl need to start being aware of their dogs being able to get off their property AND have an adult who can control the dog in public as well. One of my pet grips is parents who let their little kids take the dog for walk when it is obv if the dog wanted to chase something the kids would have no control over it

Weak Hind-quarters / Back In Gsd
german_shep_fan replied to Kirty's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I would take her to the chiro for a check, her back or pelvis or even neck might be out which can contribute to the lameness and angulation, although it is quite possible that she is naturally that way (angulated). I don't own the showlines so can't comment, do you know her lines? Someone knowledgeable in her lines or type might be able to help you there. As you know though no dog should be 'weak' at 7mnths, i would be getting her checked out for issues such as possible HD ect. Edit for added info lol -
Sorry but i think alot of ppl who get pound dogs generally just want to save a life and would prefer to do that rather then get a dog who will already go to a good home of a breeder's choice. Just because ppl buy pound dogs doesnt mean they want 'all the money in their own pockets". And some ppl just cannot afford $1500-2000 for a dog. No matter how hard some ppl work and save it is just not possible.

Good stuff APBT I hope ppl take you up on your offer and you are able to help them get a more favourable outcome in court, BSL is one of the most stupid notions ever invented.

And you reckon the 'excess' on the insurance policy for the store would cover a $30 item...? Come off it, it is done in job lots for damaged stock. I have had to return two Kuz's over the past few years that have broken within the space of a mnth. $20 and the shop had no trouble taking them back and replacing them for nothing. Though that might be more an agreement between them and the supplier? lol yep, it would have nothing to do with insurance. The company who makes the product would give the shop the money back, or the shop would just do a refund and run it as a loss. Oh cool thanks :) Hmm well Kuz need to make hardier sqeakers

The OP said the toy was on the ground when her pup picked it up, it could be possible another dog already had it then left there. The pet shop near us let dogs come in and try out the harnesses and halters ect. I always take my dogs in with me and they have a great time. If i owned the shop i would make sure all the plush toys were up from group level where the dogs can reach them but higher up on the shelves. If the owner then let the dog spag all over a toy that they handed to them then yes, i would expect them to pay. But when said toy was already on the ground when the OP's dog picked it up, i probably wouldn't. Toy's shouldn't be left lying where they can easily pick them up.

Now my dog cannot tolerate any kibble, ZD was actually one that made him the worst he has ever been - he does best on raw with VAN, I have worked out what suits him and I won't be changing anytime soon!!! Was your boy diagnosed with IBD also? So strange how some things work well for some dogs who have it but not others I am glad you have found something that your boy does well on :) I think i remember seeing you post that Gibbs had to have an operation? I hope he is mending well :)

Yeah they are evil little bastards! But just keep an eye on her, at this time of year the threat is no where near as bad as even a few mnths ago :) I know what you mean though, i keep both the advantix and preventic collars on mine in the spring/summer as htey are very bad around here then, and my boy's coat is basically a plush coat so you are very hard pressed to feel them until they would be quite large.

Hey Donatella Its prob best to be safe then sorry. What part of Brisbane was this. I am up Mt Nebo way so up in the sticks. We do bush walks abt 4 times a week atm. I don't do them in summer as its ticks galore but the local vet haven't had a tick case around here for over a mnth. Doesn't mean they are not around, they always are, just not as bad as it gets cooler. I honestly wouldn't stress too much :) I just have the collars on mine atm and feel safe walking the bush tracks ect :)

Does Anyone Else's Dog Get Sick When Wormed?
german_shep_fan replied to trinabean's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Yep, goes through mine like a does of salts -
I would also love to know if there is anything that can fix this problem My 7yr old GSD TroyBoy has had bad cases of IBD on and off for the last 10mnths since my old sheppy died We ended up putting him on canine ZD dry ect as this is the only food his poor tummy can handle. He has had it in the past but one round of antibiotics always cleared it up again. But ever since my beautiful Tara passed we have only been able to control it and nothing more. I understand how you are feeling CB, its very frustrating. Vet says they don't really have a cure, they only know how to control it Trouble is, the ZD food is SO expensive I love him to death and don't mind paying it, but would love to know if there are alternate remedies that people have had success with as at this point it seems like he may be on ZD for a while longer too.

Rusty looked like a very sweet girl :) I am so very sorry for your loss. Run free beautiful girl

I agree :) I think the more you use phrases ect the more they come to understand things. Like go up the backyard, go sit for dinner, ready for carrides ect ect, if you repeat them often enough they come to understand what everything means :) In training when they do something well i give them the thumps up and say good stuff and they know they have done the right thing I admit, i feel crazy but i talk to them the same as i talk to ppl lol I esp tell TroyBoy if someone or something has po'd me that day, he just sits and looks blank faced at me

Extreme Dog Breeding On Youtube
german_shep_fan replied to trifecta's topic in General Dog Discussion
Hence why there has been a split in lines or 'types' of dogs in breeds. The show versions do what they were bred for, showing, the working types do what the breeds were originally bred for. It is a tricky situation, as most dogs don't go to families who will use them for their intended purpose, they simply want them as family companions, or occasionally as obedience comp or agility pets ect :) They no longer have to herd in the feilds or day or be fit enough to chase game for hours on end I am not saying i don't agree with you, but unfortunately most breeds don't need to do the work they were once bred for. And yes common sense should say 'well if this breed can't reproduce on their own why are they still going', in all seriousness though, the wake up call should of been eons ago. Winning looks in the show ring. There are still dogs within these breeds who can and do perform the jobs they were bred for :) -
Thats a great pic! I love your mum's sheppy too, she was beautiful :)

SOOOO cute!!! How could a beautiful fella like that not have a permanent home? You better watch out, he's so cute you might just end up keeping him

That's the one that stood out to me as well - the change in Boxers is huge. This stuff is so interesting!! Thanks for posting this :) I adore seeing pics of the GSD from days gone by :) Agree with the Boxer Another one which really shocked me (saw it first in that other vid that is making the rounds) is the Bull Terrier

Border Collie Breeders Recommendations?
german_shep_fan replied to bossyboo's topic in General Dog Discussion
Can i recommend http://www.bojakbordercollies.com ? Pups are on limited register so are not for the show ring but are able to compete in dog sports. I know you said you just wanted a family pet so ability to compete in show ring won't matter for you :) I'm not sure if you have seen the links to the QLD and NSW breeders here on DOL? http://www.dogzonline.com.au/breeds/puppies/border-collie.asp?state=QLD You can also go to the full breeder listing for each state from this page :) Sorry i can't be of much more help. Maybe you could also post in the BC sub thread, people there will be able to tell you whats the go :) Good luck with your search, i hope you find a wonderful companion :) -
 I know, poor precious TroyBoy, i have quite a few pics of them playing with him making faces like that. Thanks for your comments :) Madam is 6.5mnths today :)
