  1. So so sorry White Shepherd Mum. Thinking of you. beautiful girl
  2. +1 She seems like the type that doesn't give two hoots until something actually happens, then when it does you will be the worst person under the sun.
  3. +1. Just because ppl get a dog from gumtree doesn't mean they won't be a responsible owner. Not everyone gets their dogs from DOL ads ect and reg breeders do advertise via these outlets. A good friend is currently looking on gumtree for a companion for her and her first dog she found on gumtree. Even if I didn't like where she was looking its none of my business anyway.
  4. Yes there are basically 3 different main types the way I see it. Working line, old style and show line. Very welcome :) will wait to hear from you :)
  5. Hey there :) Jyetara is Tina Boyd. She is not breeding any sheps atm but Rantino has some of her bloodlines :) In Vic you could contact Macklin German Shepherds, in QLD there is Maraya German Shepherds - Mary Jefferson. Fax German Shepherds and also Vomsirius German Shepherds. In NSW the kennels that i know of are Fluermack,Maxvonchace and Sharon Markich from GSD World. Those are the ones i can think of off the top of my head and most are Old Style breeders (some are working line) but if you go here http://www.dogzonline.com.au/breeds/breeders/german-shepherd-dog.asp?state=&Submit=Go there are many other great working line breeders you can look at also. If you want to pm feel free, happy to chat :)
  6. That's a hell of alot of Deutscher Schäferhund
  7. Or a 12 hour whelping during the night, breech births & a trip to an emergency Vet at 2am to get puppy formula to feed the puppies, because the mother doesn't want to know the puppies she's had, while she is still pushing out the others. Then the 2 hour feeds for the runts of the litter, who are too small to compete with the bigger stronger pups. Sorry but i find this sort of attitude disgusting. It won't be the poor dogs fault she is being used to get "$200" a pup out of. You wouldn't wish it on dogs of registered breeders so what makes it any different for this dog? It must be devastating for things to go so wrong, something i wouldn't wish on any breeding dog, Registered or not. OP I doubt you will change their mind, all you can do is hope that for the bitch's sake everything goes smoothly and they are able to find them nice homes. There will always be byb and no amount of whinging here will change it.
  8. I have had my girl on it for a good couple of months now and she is doing really well on it :) Rebanne - NOOOO don't throw it out, i will pay postage costs, send it to me!!!
  9. So did I, i have a working girl also so its almost impossible for her to sit still. She goes nuts if she doesn't get out at least once a day. MUP Is there room enough in your yard that you could do training with her? Mental stimulation can be just as exhausting as physical exercise, at least in my experience lol :) All the best :)
  10. Oh god those poor sweethearts After seeing what they do to GSDs for the fur market over there i don't even want to imagine :
  11. This book changed my life. I know the "pack heirachy" thinking is now considered old school but the methods used to overcome problems are mostly positive and that is where this book is at opposites to the old methods of Kohler, Barbara Woodhouse and Ceasar Milan. The other books by John Fisher are also worth reading as well. I remember ready a Barbara Woodhouse book where she dealt with a little dog with the same problem of the dog not wanting the wife to get into bed. Her method was to don a very heavy coat and leather gloves and remove the snarling dog from the bed. Hardly something you could do with a large dog though. I much prefer John Fisher's non confrontational methods that are so much safer and still get results. Really? That is still what is taught at our training school so i didn't know the whole are you the boss of the pack was considered outdated! What are other trainers teaching these days??
  12. I have been told by the vet that as a general rule females will come on heat for the first time when they reach around 85% of their adult body weight (what their weight will be when they have finished growing).
  13. Bah consider yourselves lucky! lol My girl had a phantom heat then one month later came back in again for her first real season. Gawd i was so over it by the time the real one finished, can't imagine how my poor baby girl must of felt lol
  14. What do you mean by poor breeding?? I agree with the poster that said you might be better off trying to talk them into finding a working line male to breed her with if you see them again. And hopefully getting them to wait at least another year before breeding her I know GSD club says 18mnths but personally i think that is still too young lol) I can see the flames coming from here, but even if they do mate her, there is nothing to say that the pups won't be healthy dogs and go on to find good homes and be good family companions, working dogs ect. I have seen dogs with top line pedigrees who have suffered very badly with skin conditions, movement issues ect. I just hope they have their heart in the right place and look after dog and pups instead of floundering after the $$
  15. Thank God the sheppy was with him, at least that might of been a deterrent to anyone with pedo ect ideas for the poor little fellow. Parents don't deserve to have him or the dog.
  16. The thing that worries me is that becuase of idiot owners like the ones that owned this GSD, shepherds will now be next on the hit list for BSL
  17. Did she have main register papers? If so i don't think there is much you can do? If she was on limited 14mnths is WAY too young
  18. The funny thing is, nothing in the GSD breed standards say that they shall be a show dog?. So how does a good show dog which is not required of the GSD by the breed standards be considered a good GSD when it doesn't have the instinctive traits to do what the breed standards require? A GSD breeder once told me that her dogs are not suitable for guarding but her lines had won multiple shows and were considered of type at the highest level?. I would have thought if they are not suitable for guarding when the breed standards says they shall they would then be duds, or am I missing something I guess that is why there is a split in some breeds between the showing version and the working version. If they are show dogs then they would probably be "of type at the highest level" for the show ring. Just because a dog wins in the conformation ring doesn't mean jack as far as working or guarding abilities are concerned, they may be good guard dogs or they may have no guarding instinct left at all. Hence again why there is a split between the work and show, they are bred for two very different things. Tralee - I would like a separate classification but i can't see it happening anytime soon. In answer to your other question of what other breeds would look like if they were changed, well i can't give you a another dog breed but someone has done a horse lol http://terriermandotcom.blogspot.com.au/2009/01/lets-do-to-horses-what-we-did-to.html
  19. Just because she is not in the show ring doesn't automatically make her a bad dog :) There are still plenty of old style and working line shepherds out there, just look at the police force and the RAAF. I know of many old style's who are still proper herding dogs and work on their owners farms :) My girl came from such parents. Can't wait to start agility training with her :) I haven't been to a show in while as they upset me too much. I guess you have to remember that this is a forum for show people and show breeders and as such this is the type of shepherd that is supported here. Until what is awarded in the show ring changes the dogs that are sold via the clubs will remain the same. You have to watch yourself or you get into trouble with admin lol Just love your girl and remember that there will always be other dogs out there like her regardless of what wins in the ring :)
  20. No apology required. However, as the law stands there is nothing I'm aware of precluding a person from having a picnic in a dog park. There are often, however, plenty of council regulations preventing dogs from entering picnic areas, playgrounds, school grounds etc. While people continue to pay rates and dogs don't, I'd not expect that situation to change. The fact that something is ignorant, stupid or rude doesn't change the fact that folk can do it. My local dog park has a cafe in it, people sit at the tables and chairs in the middle of the dog park and eat & drink - last weekend I watched one beagle come up and steal a piece of toast of a ladies plate whilst she was busy talking to her dining companion. Everyone around saw it (the owner did call the dog and rush over, he was just wasn't fast enough) and cracked up laughing, she looked a bit bewildered and embarrased, but didn't seem to mind. She understood she was in the middle of a dog park! I wouldn't sit on the ground and eat, but it's nice to sit and have a coffee while the dogs play. Haha true on both counts HW :) Minimax - well thats what these guys did, throw their rug out on the ground and spread all their food out on it and got shitty when dogs wanted to sniff it. Its fine to bring drinks ect in, ppl do that all the time but to lay out an on the ground feast and expect the dogs not to react is a little much i feel. However this is now way sorry
  21. Really sorry that happened to you OP Glad your dog wasn't hurt, at least you will know to look out for him in the future. BC Crazy, that guy sounds like a total fruitloop! I would have reported him to the cops for threatening you! What a wonderful father he will make : Sorry HW but will have to agree to disagree with ppl's 'right' to eat a picnic in a dog park. We have an enclosed area next to an absolutely massive human only/dogs onlead park with kids play equipment, bbq's ect yet a group of ppl decided to come into the dog park and sit down on their rug smack bang in the middle of the park and spread out their food. We called our dogs away and wouldn't let them go near the food ect, but it is one hell of a good way to rile the dogs up and start a dog fight. Esp when they could of used the normal park which is literally the entire area outside the fenced off dog park.To me it is just plain rude. We don't go outside near the bbq's and let our dogs sniff the family goers food or go into their picnic space. We only have that small area so for ppl to bring in a picnic when (i personally think)they should have their food outside the dog park is just nuts. Not wishing to start a fight, just explaining a difference of opinion :)
  22. Sorry WSS ppl Oi we don't all breed the skinny roach backs! :) Whilst the majority who win the shows are like that there are many working and old style GSDs out there who work in law enforcement and farm work who still have the classic style you refer to, mine included. You just have to know where to look and who to talk to :)
  23. Yep that is my personal reasoning also, but obv from the various veiws in the replies it is a case of semantics. Coming from rural with working dogs it was always just considered that a purebred is a dog of a specific breed (papers or not). However a 'pedigreed' purebred is a purebred who has the papers to go with them. Some seem to consider a purebred dog a dog that looks and acts like the breed whilst many others want the papers to prove it. I find this topic interesting as it makes me wonder if the title of the board really should be 'Australia's Pedigreed Pure Bred Dog Community' :p
  24. I can see where you are coming from, i get that with my boy even at 7 1/2 lol. With my old girl who was nearly 13 when i had her pts people would always comment on how old she looked and whilst i didn't like to hear it and it annoyed me, the sad fact was it was true. I never like to admit they are getting old as they are just never here for long enough. I don't like watching them grow old, i wish they could live in their prime forever lol, even at 12 years old i still called my old girl 'puppy Tara' As others have said some GSDs just go grey early, i was told it depends on the lines? Whether that is true or not who knows lol If it makes you feel any better people were calling our Tessie old at 8 and she lived to 15. The dog doesn't understand they are being called old :) Just enjoy every moment you have with them and love them with all your heart, you never really know when anyone's time is up. They are here for a good time, not a long time as they say.
  25. Saw this on fb and thought it was an amazing video. Hope it is ok to share it here :) http://www.godvine.com/Stray-Dog-Drags-a-Severely-Injured-Woman-100-Feet-to-Get-Help-1913.html
