  1. Same here, I just use the furminator and get all the dead undercoat out. Mine are fine and wouldn't shave unless I had to (vet op, ticks ect). Plus my boy isn't just the usual double coat, it is a beautiful big plush coat in an array of red,tan and black and I could never get rid of it unless it was an emergency :p
  2. So very sorry Powerlegs. RIP beautiful Tango.
  3. Agree, this could be any dog who feels threateed by an uncontrolled off leash dog, regardless of size or breed. What might have only been a nip to the other dog's cheek can easily hurt a human hand and badly and I also think the woman should be fined. I find it outrageous that the Bully is being made out to be the bad guy, but I guess that was to be expected. I also can't believe how easily "Pitbull" flies off the keyboard these days. A Pit and a Bull Terrier look nothing alike and I'd bet the reporter probably wouldn't recognize either if shown a photo.... Yep, and srsly, the only reason this made the news was due to the media's anti bull breed campaign. Sorry JRT owner but sometimes you obv just have to learn to be responsible the hard way...
  4. I've had that happen too and have wondered the same. Surely though if dogs are on lead and cat not on own territory/yard then dog and owner would be in the right? At least that's what I would hope!
  5. What a beautiful boy, a true credit to the courage of the GSD, get well soon sweet boy
  6. Unless its a bull breed the breed Id is often mysteriously left out. Doesn't mean smaller dogs attack any less. Duh they can't do the same damage but the media are biased when it comes to what they will report on and say...
  7. I am so very sorry to hear this. Hemangiosarcoma is very common in GSDs and our vet said he thinks one in every two sheps will die from it. I lost one of my girls to it at a few months shy of ten, spleen ruptured so was removed but cancer had spread to liver which ruptured a few months later and we has to pts. I lost her daughter to the same thing at 12 1/2. Wishing you all the very best, you are in my thoughts Edit to say so very sorry, I only read the first post before replying, so very sorry for your loss I hope that one day they will find a cure for the 'silent cancer'
  8. Chrissie Swan & her just as ignorant offsider Jane Hall should shut their mouths until they are actually prepared to do some research instead of hysterically calling for the eradication of breeds such as GSD's, Rottis & Rhodesians - amongst others. I've been listening to her unfounded rants yesterday morning & again today where she questions why anyone would want to own a dog that weighs more than 50 kilos - sitting in judgement of people like me as if we are some kind of child killing monsters. Ms Swan hasn't met me or my dogs yet she is of the clear belief that my beautiful dogs have no place in society simply because they weigh more than 50kgs. That appears to be her only criteria to declare large dogs a dangerous menace & a threat to all children. Strange that Ms Swan didn't have the same level of concern for her own unborn child when she made the decision to smoke cigarettes during the later stages of pregnancy, despite the undisputed FACTUAL evidence that smoking whilst pregnant can have serious long term effects on the health of the foetus. And don't even start me on how she sent her 'rescue cat' back to the shelter because she found it sleeping in the babies cot. Wonder if her Bondi Vet buddy Chris Brown shares her extreme views regarding large dogs & dog ownership in general. Ah.. so weight is what makes a dog dangerous. I'd commented elsewhere today that my greyhounds (who are all very tall dogs) had yet to eat either of my children and that perhaps they were broken. As it happens, most of my dogs are around the 30-35kg mark so at least 10kg shy of being baby eaters. Useful to know! But its all about child safety ppl!!!!! :insert rolly eye man: I just can't believe she has the audacity to question ppl's choice of dog when she doesn't know the family or the dog! Esp when she was caught red handed smoking whilst pregnant!
  9. She requires more than 2 brain cells to work that out.
  10. A dog of a certain size and strength always has the potential to kill a small child...whether the owner or a parent is present or not. Previous history, behaviour, training etc is all secondary. The owner and the parent have made a tragic mistake, one that will be repeated again and again and again. We have had situations where people with big dogs brought them near my young kids, i put a stop to it, occasionally causing a few scenes where dog owner friends and family claim i am making a big deal...f. them...i am not taking those typs of risks with my kids safety. Other can choose to, i think its stupid. Then I guess you haven't heard the story of the little Pom who killed its owners baby? All dogs can be dangerous in the wrong hands. I would be wary of all equally, not just 'the big mean dogs'. Parents like this really rub me the wrong the way
  11. Poor little fellow, what a horrific way to go. If owners understood more abt canine behaviour and what makes a dog tick maybe this wouldn't happen so often. Can't see anything good coming from this in terms of BSL either
  12. Who says the old style can't still herd all day? Both mine are over standard show height and both girls parents are herders yet are big dogs. Yet again, as these convos always do they are going round in pointless circles with showies saying we live in the past and non showies saying how could you let it get to this. I think the OP probably understands abt the different lines and the controversy by now :p
  13. I meant there are not many pics from earlier than the 40s. We love and breed shepherds the way we want to and you do the same. I am not entering into a p*ssing comp with you on a dog forum, a forum for show breeders, I am not so stupid as to not realise how outnumbered my view of what a good shepherd is will be here. I simply showed the OP pics of my girl to show her there are still shepherds without the extreme angulations that are common now. You can keep your show dogs and I will keep my working 'pet' dogs :)
