  1. Just beautiful! SO happy to see mum and pups doing so well! :D
  2. Not in my experience. I lost three dogs. They had picked up poisoned meat where a bird of prey had dropped it at our dam. They used to go for a swim every morning. There was no loss of consciousness. This is what they suffered: "…restlessness; increased hyperexcitability; incontinence or diarrhea; excessive salivation; abrupt bouts of vocalization; and finally sudden bursts of violent activity. All affected animals then fall to the ground in teranic seizure, with hind limbs or all four limbs and sometimes the tail extended rigidly from their arched bodies. The only one we actually witnessed fall to the ground was the old Kelpie. I have no idea where my young Kelpie or my Cattle dog ended up, their 'violent activity' saw them run. And run fast. We couldn't find them. It's a cruel way to die. http://www.wlpa.org/1080_poison.htm Im so sorry that happened I will not support anything that is inhumane and from what others have said here this program is very inhumane!
  3. For many breeds yes there are many breeders who breed responsibly but the "type" of shepherd i am after has very few registered breeders around anymore It is hard trying to find one in the first place lol
  4. Yes i might ask her if that is possible. Thank you very much
  5. Thank you very much for the link Leema I am after a female pup, so i guess its really not looking good
  6. I am so very sorry to hear the news about Bracken Kind thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time.
  7. Hi all I just have a quick question and would appreciate some advice. I was looking to purchase another GSD within the next few mnths or so and had my heart set on a certain breeder but just noticed on their website that they de-sex their pups before they leave at 8 weeks. Its not that i mind the de-sexing per say, but just wondering can it cause problems later on to de-sex a dog so young? I thought standard was 6mnths? I know the rspca de-sex their pups before they go too, but just wondering if anyone is knowledgeable abt this? Thanks very much
  8. Once he actually owns one he might just change his mind ;) lol
  9. I LOVE your little working pup! He is beautiful Maybe ppl realise he is of the working variety or think he is already in training ect who knows, general public are stupid sometimes lol btw do you watch Send In The Dogs? Some great working sheps on that show
  10. Thoughts and prayers are with you your family and Bracken. I will be praying for some positive news
  11. so very cute I must admit i have never heard of the breed before.
  12. ugh typical Thats the general reaction i have personally found from the public towards GSDs. How long ago was this?
  13. I know of a couple of youtube links if they are of any use? they are obviously not written links but news stories and paraodies abt the stupid things ppl say abt pitties ect
  14. Nope, I know it's not the OP, I was writing as a direct response to the idiot the OP is quoting. Actually I was ranting. LOTS of ranting. /has her rantpants on. No worries, sorry just wasn't sure. Rant away! But morons like this have a skull so thick you can never talk any sense into them
  15. So they're not destroyed dogs based on what they look like, but they're destroying them based on the breed they look like? Genius. And if you have a mongrel dog which you have registered as a mongrel dog, a warden can decide the dog is not correctly registered based solely on its appearance, not its breed, and can confiscate and euthanise that dog. Who's going to manage that risk? And over 20 years of breed discrimination in the UK has had no impact on the threat or potential threat to human life. Will it take you two decades to cop on to that as well? Indeed, people are not voting at all. The legislation has been passed without referendum. Undemocratic much? And people with mongrels of dubious parentage who are arbitrarily decided to be 'of type' will have their dogs seized based purely on appearance and not behaviour. They are looking to restrict four separate breeds, using legislation which was passed without referendum, which opens the gate to adding more selected breeds to the restrictions without referendum, and I would like to see, please, a number of reliable scientific studies and collated statistics to support your claim that any breed has a proven track record of being a threat to human life. This argument actually contradicts your initial argument of how appearance is the first step in identifying breed. Because if the breed doesn't have pitbull genetics in spite of its appearance, by your own logic it will be euthanised even though it's apparently not a danger to anyone. How interesting that you manage to identify something sensible in the midst of your drivel. SpotTheDog this is not the opinions of the OP but of someone she is trying to talk some sense into. Not sure if you are aware of this or not, just the way you answered made it seem as if you were talking to her, not the moron who wrote this stuff
  16. I've had that happen too gsf - I love shepherds so much and when I hear something like that (or read this thread) it comes as a bit of a reality shock Makes me really angry when i hear the public tell their kids crap like that tbh
  17. I think that's why I love shepherds so much - I loved the RAAF dog demo's and now have one of there foster pups same gsdog2 And you train them to do that lol you can't hold a sleeve up to any random shep and expect them to attack it lol I do think a lot of the general public think that all sheps are all like police dogs though, i overheard one bloke say to his kid to say away from my dog when we were walking cos gsds are trained to bite!
  18. I would tell her to have the money ready before she leaves! lol Im sorry she is using you this way and i feel sorry for the dog too. I had the woman up the back to the same thing to me 3 times before i said no. She had a bc and two shelties (one a ex show dog who was spoilt rotten and a real pain in the bum- nothing against shelties, just this one)and gave me like 250 for nearly 2wks. I felt really ripped off. She hardly talks to me now since i have said i don't want to look after her dogs anymore, but when they are well to do and treat you like that and the dogs bark 24/7 id had it! After this i would just be telling her to get a pet sitter.
  19. A great vid and thread, thanks for posting We have a great time at our local dog park, many breeds are regulars including my boy, his bestie (lol) an alaskan mal, sibes, nz hunatway, kelpies, labs, goldens and varities of swf's, hungarian v's, borders, staffies, jack russels, terriers, beligain sheps, cattle dogs, cockers, setters, poodles, american bulldog and thats just off the top of my head lol we have a great mix
  20. Yes, please move it. I found 7 skinned Alsation puppies on a bush track near my house when I was a kid. My parents reported it to the RSPCA and the offenders were caught and charged. It was a horrifying experience and I don't feel like re-living it. I bet they got off with a slap on the wrist too if the fines are anything like they are today How awful! Im so sorry you had to see something like that. I think they took it pretty seriously. The RSPCA Inspector and the police came to our house to interview me. They even came back another time to tell us that the people responsible had been charged. The Inspector said they had been watching these people and suspected it had been going on for a while but they had no proof. I god thats so awful! Im SO glad they found them, esp if they suspected they were repeat offenders! Im so glad you and your family dobed them in! Makes me sick to think ppl do this to dogs (esp my heart breed) right here in oz. I know in the other thread you said you were wary of GSDs in general but im so thankful you and your fam brought these animals to justice, as you said, no creature deserves this! Yes, they were repeat offenders who moved from property to property. I was only 7 and the scale of it all didn't really hit me. My best friend and I cried when we saw them lying there. They were probably about 12 weeks old. A friend's German Shepherd bit me savagely when I was 12. Unfortunately, it put me off them. Again im so sorry Sorry you were bitten by one :/ I can understand why you don't like them, esp as you were so young when you were bitten. I had the same experience with a friends maltese lol but as u can imagine it wasnt as bad as a GSD bite. But in saying that i have grown up with them, love them more than anything and will fight as hard as i can to stop them being caught up in BSL. I love all dogs and I would never dislike a dog because of its breed. I'm just wary of them after being bitten. For years, the scar on my arm looked like a smiley face hee hee, but it has faded now. I had no idea that German Shepherds were caught up in BSL! That is terrible! I'm strongly against the discrimination of any breed. Good on you for fighting for them Well nothing is happening to them yet in regards to BSL but there has been an outcry on many public news boards that ppl want all "aggressive" breeds banned and mentioning sheps, rotts and dobes ect There was also a rumour here a few wks back that vic gov are planning on adding them to list soon but we dont know if it really is legit or just another rumour Thank you tho
  21. I get that reaction everyday from the public with my normal blk/tan GSD i just don't even bother looking at them. My right to own whatever the hell breed of dog i want, and if they don't like them, stiff cookies as far as im concerned, they are trained and well socialised members of society

  23. Definately agree with your comment! It makes me so mad to see some of these young GSDs who wouldnt be more than 6-8mnths coming through the training school i go to who are shockers The owners look like they are responsible and trying everything they can with these dogs and seem to be getting little to no improvement. I have asked a few where they got their pup, its not hard to pick their breeders either Feel like giving the breeders of these dogs a blast and telling them to breed for the right things for a change! Hope this comment doesn't offend as obv i am a huge shep lover, but i feel atm some breeders are placing looks above temperament
