http://news.ninemsn.com.au/world/8396891/us-man-goes-over-cliff-to-save-dog A Californian hiker thought he was going to die after getting stuck on a cliff face he descended to save his falling dog. Ivan Salas, 19, and his father were walking with their German shepherd Lola along a 100-metre-high ridge in the San Fernando Valley when the dog chased a bottle Ivan threw over the precipice. Mr Salas watched as the dog went over and quickly responded by descending the cliff only to find himself in a life-threatening predicament. “When I was going halfway down, that’s when I thought that was the end for myself,” he told Good Morning America. "Once I was sliding down, I was just trying to hold onto whatever I could." Struggling for grip on the slippery dirt, Mr Salas eventually grabbed onto a rock, where he hung on for dear life for 90 minutes awaiting rescue. "Any little mistake, I could have gone straight down," he said. An attempt by rescue services to use a helicopter to retrieve the stricken pair failed when the chopper started to blow a dangerous stream of loose dirt and debris along the cliff face. Two firefighters eventually abseiled to their aide, lifting the boy and his dog to safety with a harness. Asked why he plunged over the edge to save his one-year-old pooch, Mr Salas gave a reply dog owners around the world will understand: "She's not just a dog, she's family," he told ABC America.

I think it should be the parents responisbility to keep their kids at home! How stupid letting little kids wonder around like that, esp with a dog to control! But that is another story! Not sure if you are liable or not, i personally think you should not be. Your dog is in its own yard, the child should not be sticking his/her hand through you fence, of course the child is too young to understand this, but the mother should not allow her kids to just wonder the neighbourhood either! Madness.

Do You Let Your Dogs Lick You?

I picked the first option hehe -
Just this morning i took a dog to the vet to wait for his owners. I have picked up this dog at least 3 times now. The local vet will hold the dog till the owners are able to be contacted, they are very good like that. The moment i walked in with him the vet nurse said "oh the famous Zeus". I have personally taken him back to his home a few times and you hardly even get a thank you out of them! They just don't give a s&*t! i even said to the vet nurse this morning that i felt bad giving him back to his owners cos they just don't give a damn. She looked at me a little oddly but i really don't care, i wish he had a owner that gave a damn abt him and his whereabts

I think we would be hard pushed to find a breed that hasn't featured in an attack on a person or animal at some point. I think some just have a problem with recognising this and like to believe that breeds the media hypes as family dogs like labs and retrievers are exempt from such attacks when its clearly not the truth. All dogs can attack, not just the breeds the media want the public to think of as aggressive and scary. -

Your sheppy pup is beautiful Not that i am biased but they are the cutest pups out there haha My sheppy pup Thea is nearly 13wks and when we walk if ppl, esp kids want to calmly pat her then i do let them as she is going to grow well over the 40kg mark and i need her to be non responsive around kids and ppl. If kids ask if they can have a tummy rub and a small run around with her that is fine to me. But we are all different and if you don't want every tom dick and harry patting your pup then that is your personal choice. I guess ppl just think that new puppy owners will love all the attention their pup can get when not everyone is like that. I must admit i was super excited to show her off to other sheppy ppl and their kids around the neighbourhood, afterall they don't stay pick up size for long haha -

Yes i know the history of the GSD in Australia, thats why ppl like mum to emma don't help the cause, it is all too easy to just ban them again. I will not pay for someone else mistakes! -
Depends who you ask. :p You'll also find a lot of pro-show Kelpie people who look down at the working line Kelpies because they don't have the 'correct conformation'. Like I said above, it really depends who you ask. It's pretty natural that a farmer would prefer the WKC/non-ANKC bred Kelpies. For a non-farmer or someone who doesn't want to show dogs, the difference doesn't really matter. Sorry but that is so wrong ... there are a lot of people (including many people on this board) who have WKC-registered i.e. working line Kelpies who live in the suburbs and are fine. I think any dog would go bonkers without proper stimulation - Kelpies just seem to have a particular bad name. All of the breeders I spoke with, working line and show, said Kelpies were totally fine in the suburbs as long as you didn't just dump them in a yard and expect them to entertain themselves. Sorry i didn't mean any offense in saying that, like i said i love Kelpies, im just going off a few different ppl i know of who own Kelpies and have problems with them escaping and having to run them ragged to wear them out ect. I guess it does depend on the individual dog. But i do agree with you, any dog can go nuts if they don't get out enough, there are a few that live near us like that, poor things are bored stupid

Good stuff! About time some common sense was used! -
I can see that lol i guess you can't having working Kelpies living in the city, poor things would go bonkers without the proper excerise and mental stimulation they need.

I took my Troyboy to see Santa Paws at the RSPCA Christmas appeal a few yrs ago and his santa pic was pathetic because he stood like a metre away from santa lol He was terrified. Never had a problem with my female sheppys tho lol My Troyboy is not the bravest haha

I love Kelpies but really don't know anything at all abt the differences b/t the WKC and the ANKC Kelpies. I was thinking though, maybe the person you spoke to is used to having working Kelpies that can do the work required on the farm whereas the ANKC Kelpies, whilst being able to herd ect just don't have the same amount of drive or stamina that the WKC do? Not sure if that even makes sense, but i was thinking maybe that is what he meant by natural hearding ability? idk lol

It is obvious from your numerous posts on this issue that you have issues with all dogs above knee height? I suppose if your small/toy breed of dog ever came under BSL for whatever reason you would change your tune and say that your dog is different from all the others in that breed of dog? There are good and bad in every breed and i WILL stand up to own the breed i have loved for 26 years whether you like them or not. The post you copied in which the person states "There are other dogs, you'll get over it" Im sure you wouldn't be so vindictive if it was your breed the public wanted banned. My dogs have never done anything wrong and they should not be punished or branded against purely for being born the breed they are. Sorry everyone, just sick of feeling attacked everywhere lately, DOL is the one place where i used to feel ppl accepted ALL breeds of dog and didn't buy into media hype. -
My Troyboy at 8wks This is my Troyboy recently at 6yrs I also have my new girl Thea Rose but she is only 12wks old and i am too superstious to only upload baby pics lol
