  1. I hope he is found safe and sound soon. Thinking of you
  2. I just have a quick q of my own abt bloat. I know it can occur at any time, but does there seem to be a certain time after feeding in which bloat can occur? Is there a 'safe' time shall we say that if a dog hasn't bloated for say 3-4hrs after a meal then it is unlikely to do so? Hope i am making sense, guess i am asking if there is usually a certain length of time that passes after a meal in which a dog will or will not bloat. Thanks
  3. This is a great guide, thank you very much for posting it.
  4. Penalties of 12 months in jail and fines of $26,000. The legal system has always been a complete joke! For ppl and animals. Just lock these bastards up and throw away the key!
  5. If you have a multi-regional player i am pretty sure you can play them even if they are region 1
  6. Sorry. but showing a dog by the very nature of its activity is a great way to socialise a dog. Where do you get unsocialised Show Dogs??? I didn't mean only with other dogs, when you look through many adult listings for breeds on dol many state they are either no good with little kids, cats, can't be left at home all day, can only be in a one dog household ect. When they are older their chances of finding the right home may already be slightly less (not always but sometimes) then pups whose slate is clean with their prime socialisation period to learn to accept these things being as soon as they are taken home.
  7. If only it was so, I've seen BIG dogs with the most unstable, insecure temperaments which are so not within breed standard. A perfect top line goes further in the ring than a temperament within breed standard. Half the dogs in my breed out there showing wouldn't know how to work stock, or be functioning workers on a farm. I'm so passionate about people going on about breed standard, when the actual functioning ability of the dog is never tested. Why on earth there ever had to be a split in some breeds on different lines amazes me, and I have to wonder who actually drove the split? The showring breeders, or the working dog breeders, and the motives behind it. For looks perhaps? I have to agree that most (not all) of what is BEST about a dog will never be seen in a Show Ring. Sometimes I think "titles" should be certified by a Vet (or three) before being granted. But that is another thread. I would be highly doubtful that many vets would know the breed standards sufficiently well enough to be able judge the quality of the animal, other than the those vets that are judges. I fail to see how taking a dog to the vet should sanction it's title. Be it Champion, Grand Champion or Supreme Champion. To gain any of those titles to me, it takes a healthy, happy well adjusted animal. Remember many of these dogs that you believe to inadequate in conformation and temperament are dogs that can travel to other countries and become Champions in that country, only to and come back to Australia the same happy healthy well adjusted dogs that left these shores. If some you are not seeing this in the dogs you purchase may I strongly suggest that you MAY not be contacting the right breeders. Trouble is many of the breed clubs recommend these breeders as they are the breeders whose dogs are winning shows. I for one got out of my club as i was so appalled at what was being placed on a pedestal and what was being excluded for want of a better word. People who want purebreds are often told to contact the breed club in their state ect and have good faith they will be buying a sound healthy puppy. I am friends with one such person who was recommended a pup from a very reputable breeder according to club, and has had nothing but trouble with said puppy and even copped abuse by strangers for starving this dog ect she looked so poorly.
  8. Poor dog and that poor woman and her family I know what i would like to do with that blake dickhead
  9. Beautiful! Thank you. It may interest you that I've been using her to calm down a very reactive young GSD. He was put into boarding kennels twice when young, obviously upset by all the barking dogs there, and all he'd do with strange dogs was lunge and bark. Jarrah either wanted to play or she'd ignore him, she's very laid back for a cattle dog, and he's good with her now. Thats great! Well done! Makes me so sad to see these types of GSD around, sounds like the bloke you know just had a bad experience, but at my obedience club there are so many dog aggressive ones, not a good look for us, esp with all the BSL crap atm
  10. I agree! But what also makes me really angry is the way the breeders you have mentioned ( i am in no way aiming this at all breeders as it does not apply) just want to offload their dogs once they are finished with them! They claim they want to better the breed ect ect but what about loving them and keeping them on as family pets after their show career is finished? Do they not care for these animals at all or is it all abt winning the show??? I understand that breeders sometimes cannot keep all the show dogs they raise ect, but to offload them to you completely unsocialised! What chance do they think the poor things have at finding a new home
  11. My Troyboy is a HUGE fan of the cuz's also That and Kong Frisbees
  12. What is wrong with Supercoat? My vet said it was fine to feed them. Is it just not as high end as science diet ect
  13. I wouldn't worry, it took abt 3 puppu classes for my shep girl to warm up to it. She wanted to disappear into the hedge the first time we went lol She is fine now, happy to join in. I think just like us, when things are new and you don't know anyone they can be a bit scary
  14. Spent the morning playing with each other in the shell and are now asleep on the concrete in the shade
  15. Hope all is well for your girl tonight and in the morning I am going to have an anxious night with my 4mth old girl tonight too. She raced out into the yard after dinner and picked up a small cane toad that was hopping around. i grabbed her and tried to wash her mouth out but she wouldn't hold still for long. Emergency vet said to wet cloth her gums and get everything off her gums. She went and ate her dryfood in the meantime and so far (touch wood) seems ok. Happened abt 2 1/2hrs ago now. I will watch her for another hr or so. I am the same as you, i watch my boy for ages after every meal as i am paranoid abt bloat too.

  20. Oh how cute! It is cute. Mine never worried till 2 years ago when someone down the road let of what could only be described as a home made bomb it was so loud. Apparently he blew his hand off . Kids can be so stupid. Ouch, i feel sorry for him, but at the same time how bloody stupid can you get?? We just had the 9pm fireworks at 8 40 and the boy seemed ok, luckily for me Thea Rose is too hyped up from dinner to sleep so she was scruffing with him on his bed and distracted him
