  1. Then you can make the valid points in the new thread that TW has felt the need to make :)
  2. Besties with Gus? Sweet pics, she is beautiful, the one of her drinking is sweet also. I love the red nose :)
  3. Can you please show me where she said she believed ALL APBT's are sweet and gentle?? I don't think such an inference is a stretch from here: But only the OP can tell us for sure. I'm happy to opt out of the thread now. Sorry but Perhaps there will be some more positive talk now instead of taking every op to take the discussion off topic and "warn" of their danger which we get everyday anyway!
  4. What politics? I'm anti BSL but I'm not going shove my head in the sand about a breed attribute that warrants recognition and caution. It's no different to owning Whippets and acknowledging that no matter how well socialised and trained they may be, they are hard wired to chase and kill small prey. Do Beagle owners think its going to be unusual that their dogs get their head down and scent a lot or do retriever owners think that their dogs carrying items around isn't part of their genetic make up? Dogs do not come in one standard set of characteristics wrapped up in different suits. We're talking in this case about a breed selected for generations for a low trigger to aggression, a low bite inhibition and a hard bite. How about we acknowledge that and move on. Frankly if more people were familiar with the origins of the breed and the charactertistics we selectively bred them for and managed their own dogs accordingly, we'd see a lot less of APBTs in the news and a lot less hysteria about them - and that goes for people with other breeds that interact with them. Being pro-pitbull isn't about dressing the breed up to be something that it isn't. They are often not 'teddy bears' with other dogs and to suggest otherwise is misleading. I see nothing negative about acknowledging that. As i said all dogs have needs and attributes that don't suit all ppl. But this thread is just a nice thread for people to tell stories about the nicer side of the APBT that the media will hardly ever acknowledge. All most want is to keep the its time for a reality check and did you know APBT have triggers for this that and the other out of it. I for one would just like to hear some nice stories for a change without having to go into jargon that everyone already knows. As the OP said, there is enough negativity abt and respobsible owners already know everything stated in your post so its falling on deaf ears anyway.
  5. The OP started this thread and intended it to be nice post for APBT owners who do the right thing by their dogs and are responsible owners. Nothing more nothing less. All dogs have characteristics that make them more suitable to some owners rather then others. Can we please leave the politics aside for just one thread?
  6. +1, whilst as i said,im sorry your dog was injured, but as you keep avoiding answering this question i am assuming it was not an off leash beach?
  7. If you have spoken kindly to her and she is not willing to do something about it (and it happens again) i would call council. Perhaps (i know this would be hard) if possible film the dog when it races out at you and show your evidence to council. I had the same issue some years back, the council officer even had a number of photos with him and asked me to choose which dog it was that was charging us from it house. I picked the dog but the guy still seemed unwilling to do anything about it and seemed suprised when i picked the correct dog quickly. Not sure if it was because the dog was a lab, anyway my call did nothing as said dog still continued to charge us till the day the owners finally moved
  8. What a great post Bellackcs!! And what did said lab owner do abt his lab showing aggression towards your dog?? I was watching one of those American animal rescue shows just last night and there were three pits. One they took away from the owner, the two they left were beautiful dogs, both in looks and temperament. The one they took "Duchess" was the most beautiful dog, despite her abuse all she wanted to do was have kisses and cuddles with the vets and rescuers :) She found a lovely new home with a wonderful owner. Each dog is an individual and should be treated as such. The lab owners wife put the lab back on the leash for a few minutes. ugh so she took responsibility and not him? You can never talk any sense into people like that. I am willing to give any breed of dog a go, i personally believe any dog is only as good as they owner makes them :)

  10. No bed and no couch, other then that pretty much anywhere they like, my big fella likes the double shower
  11. There is one that comes to our dog park :D In light of the stupid laws, he is probably not meant to be there, but he is the biggest sweetheart Nope i didn't say you were :) I have agred with all your posts in this thread, i am simply saying greyhound laws seem silly to me regarding muzzles ect if the indivual dogs don't need them.
  12. Oh I'm so sorry german shep fan, I think you've misunderstood my post, I certainly wasn't 'getting personal' and I definitely didn't think you were throwing a personal insult at me, I'm not that sensitive :) I was simply wondering how many litters you'd had as you always make a number of comments in threads of this nature, obviously you've had a great deal of experience in these matters. I don't know if you are being sarcastic or not as it is hard to tell on the net But if you are not, then thank you very much :) I am only pretty young myself and am just starting out on my own so to speak but been with fam breeders all my life :) lol i am well hated by specialty show ppl in my breed as i am pretty open mouthed about my views on where the breed is headed and i feel the show ring in that regard has a lot to answer for. Again that is a personal opinion of mine and i am more then happy for ppl to disagree with me and my views as i do with theirs :)

  14. I have no problems at all with inbreeding if it's done by an experienced breeder who knows their lines inside and out, my foundation bitch was from a father/daughter mating. BTW how many litters have you bred german shep fan? Have they all been outcrossed matings which produced super healthy pups with great temperaments? You've never mated to an outcross and had a little nasty that you'd never had before crop up in some of your puppies? Then i am afraid i will have to agree to disagree with you. No need to get personal, i wasn't throwing a personal insult at you. But since you feel you must know, no i don't inbreed my dogs and yes i have great temp dogs who were all big and healthy. I don't like or feel the need to get into arguements with strangers on boards such as this, so that is all i am going to say, your bus is yours and mine is mine, wether we agree with each other or not :)
  15. Yes, because that would make it really objective now wouldn't it. NOT They're judging conformaton to a standard, not a pedigree for heavens sake. You don't need dogs if you're judging pedigrees. Just submit the papers and let them decide. Because EVERY dog lives up to the potential of its pedigree now doesn't it. ;) Misunderstood, i meant as the OP was saying for overuse of a certain sire and inbreeding ect. Any dog can fit a breed standard yet be highly inbred ect. That is what i have an issue with as the OP was saying. I don't care ppl can bash,my views are v unpopular, its all good :D
  16. Petermoore admitted some fault and didn't try to excuse himself at all. The council where this attack happened hasn't admitted anything. And they won't admit anything unless it is reported and acted on. Nobody is saying that petermoore shouldn't accept the consequences of having the dog off-lead. There are legal consequences for that. The owner of the other dog has no right to be annoyed because their dog wasn't harmed at all. They deserve a fine for failing to control their dog , and the dog needs restricting from being able to attack like this again. No it was only charged at then barked at by an out of control off lead dog. Greytmate - plse don't think i am against greyhounds in these views as i am not, i would hold the same view no matter what breeds were involved. Both owners need to accept responsibility, until the OP confirms or not that the beach was off lead (then it is a different story) or that on lead dog was originally controlled on lead and lead snapping or breaking of collar ect was an accident, i am sorry but i will have to hold a different opinion to yours :)
  17. How awful for you. I am so very sorry for your loss. Run free Sarah
  18. Sorry not trying to hijack but I've not heard about choc labs before. We have a couple in the extended family with behavioural issues. Can you give me more info on chocolate issues please (PM is fine if you prefer)? Some say its true and others say it is a myth. I think it will depend on who you talk to regarding the chocs. "Unless judges have pedigrees in front of them, they're not going to know the ancestry of the dogs they're judging" Perhaps its time they did.
  19. A dog that breaks its lead and attacks like this because it was startled is a very dangerous dog and should be declared dangerous. No matter how it behaves when it isn't in the mood to attack. This is the sort of dog that we don't need out in our community at all. I'm surprised that anyone would try to excuse such horrifically destructive behaviour. There is no excuse for that. I am not excusing it, none of us were there except for the OP. If i was walking my dog on lead and doing the right thing when another dog suddenly appeared and spooked my dog causing it to bark and say basically 'get out of my personal space' and off lead dog then also starts carrying on (as the OP said his dog did) then to completely excuse the off lead dog and say the dog and its owner are 100% in the right is also crazy. Sure the dog shouldn't have attacked the off lead dog, but dog should not of been off lead and should not have provoked the dog that was on lead. If on lead dog is that aggressive normally it should be muzzled when in public, if this was my dog and i was doing all the right things i would be annoyed if someone let their off lead dog into my dogs face like that. As Dxenion said, even the council admits the greyhound owner is at fault.
  20. I hope your dog has a speedy recovery both mentally and physically from the attack. I am very sorry, and i know it must of been very upsetting for you but i am inclined to agree with Gussy's mum on this. Perhaps the speed of which your dog came into the other dogs space startled it? If the dog was on a lead to begin with can it be assumed it was an accident the other dog broke lose? Your dog was already lose then started acting aggressively back to the other dog. The other dog may be social in a calmer situation but was simply stunned by your dogs sudden and quick appearence. Again i really do hope your dog recovers. Edit to say i know where i lived Pits are banned. Perhaps it was a pit perhaps it was an American Staffy or a X of some sort.
  21. Exactly, if this was a breeder advert on gumtree ect ppl here would be up in arms about byb and their dodgy practices. But as this is a registered breeder and the dog is winning shows it is ok? I am not going to speak for anyone else here but personally i would never even consider mating a blind and deaf dog, they would be desexed as soon as they were of age. As for mating merle to merle OP i don't believe in the whole popular stud thing either, surely one dog cannot be a suitable match for over half the females in that breed or more in the show ring, although it happens everywhere. Except in registries where there is a limit on how many services a stud dog is allowed. They do it in greyhounds to prevent popular sire syndrome, to prevent stud dog abuse, and to keep the gene pool a bit deeper than it would be otherwise. Thank you for the info Greytmate, i didn't know this about Greyhounds :) Good on the Greyhound registry If only more breeds would follow suit.
