Why Do Sighthounds Tend To Be Timid/sensitive?
snippet replied to corvus's topic in General Dog Discussion
Our whippets suffer from excessive greeting disorder and are anything but shy; but..............our Jed is the spook, terrified of most things in life. He was three and an ex racer when we got him, no idea whether it was his handling or if it is the way he was born. Two years on and he will go up to some people but is still terrified of children and most people. It has been the most rewarding experience to have him and all the greyhounds that come and go through our life I have never seen another like him. He has pannus which probably does not help. -

For The Ladies...if You Own A Big Dog...
snippet replied to WillowGirl's topic in General Dog Discussion
We have three whippets and a grey and in all truth although they are "our" dogs, the greyhound is mine and the whippets are the OH's. Love them all though. :D -
Not sure if anyone has used them, but there is Hanrob Kennels at Heathcote. You can tour their facilities from 9 to 4pm with no appointment according to their site.

Our first greyhound used to try and race the dogs into the corner of the tele if we put dog racing on, and no he had never raced a day in his life. He also got extremely excited by barking dogs on there as well.

Maybe try fostering a younger one or one with high energy like everyone has said. Agree with Stans mum they are all different, even ones that are the same age can be totally different.

Congratulations, she is a gorgeous pup, love the name too.

"gentle Paws Cordless Nail Trimmer"
snippet replied to Poppy's mum's topic in General Dog Discussion
I have used the low end version of the pedi paws too, Two of the whippets are fine with it, Ella even goes to sleep, but it takes a long time. Cordless dremel sounds much better -
I agree fostering is a fantastic way to really get to know if the dog is for you and I would highly recommend that too. Many of the groups are happy to do foster with view to adopt. Good luck I am sure you will find teh right one wherever they come from.

There is a fully fenced off lead area in Whitaker Street, Flinders. (Fenced with the standard pool fencing) Most of the time you can be lucky and not find anyone there, but be warned no one picks up their poop.

We know a neighbours son who bought a golden from a byb and she had $15,000 worth of surgery in her short and painful 12 months of life. They said they were told what happened to her could have happened to any dog from a breeder. Hmmm!!! Lady at library has a labradoodle who is two... hd and sever arthritis. We bought our first two whippets from a byb, and quite frankly I would have bought the whole litter just to get them out of there. Patch has a lot of immune problems and the amount we spent on vets in his first year we could have bought a pedigreed pup. Suprisingly the vet said they were not in that bad condition considering their start in life. Thankfully the lady surrendered the two pups she had kept and the mother so hopefully it won't happen again. After that we stuck to rescued greyhounds and whippets and would never go near a byb again. My friends pugalier has an overshot jaw and is starting to look like a stretch limo pug with long legs and quite a long face. Tried to talk her into buying one from a breeder but as she said she always wanted a pug and she ended up with Samson.

What a beautiful boy, just so cute

I don't think they feel guilt, they pick up on our feelings and act accordingly.

Too funny

I foster for for Friends of the Hounds too and our dogs are temperament tested and fostered in homes with dogs and cats and children. We also do foster with view to adopt when asked. We rehome dogs from the Central Coast to Batemans Bay so far.

That is just beautiful

Grrrr...idiots At Off Leash Dog Only Parks
snippet replied to Juddabug Whippets's topic in General Dog Discussion
We do not go to the offlead dog park any more, it is in the next suburb and the size of a large suburban house block with pool fence around it. Unfortunately it has four entry points, none of which have double gates. It was a great place for the dogs to at least have a stretch out and run but no one besides us seemed to pick up the poop so it was literally everywhere!!! We have come across a few idiots as well. -
Isn't this why they say dogs have masters and cats have staff
-
A friend has a cav/pug cross who looks like a pug but has a slightly longer face. He has many health issues but she does not regret buying him, which sadly means she will encourage others she knows to do the same. At least with a pedigreed dog you know what you are getting. Your letter was very well put.

Congratulations, beautiful litter, can't wait to see more pictures :D

That is all so sad and so true.

We had an eight month old one in obedience with us and she was gorgeous. Huge, much bigger than my greyhound but the most wonderful personality.
