And that's why those laws are so ridiculous. People who care for their dogs needs end up being the ones targeted and those they're trying to stop carry on as they were. It shows just how ineffective and pathetic they are. Glad I don't live in VIC. I wonder how many times this has happened already to people who can't afford to fight the councils. I completely agree with this! :) this forum needs a liking system. My two are free to use the lounge when ever they want but know the bed is off limits. As everyone else says letting them up on the bed does not make the dog think it rules the house, it's more so the opportunity presents itself and the dog gobbles that opportunity up :) staffys are persistent though and you have to stick to your rules. In my house allowing them to do something one day and then not the next day in my opinion is just confusing. If you don't want her in your room, don't let her in there. She will cry and carry on but you have to stick to your guns and ignore it. She'll learn soon enough that it does her no good. My two have never been problem barkers and now sleep inside which has reduced the little they were barking down to nothing. They sleep better inside and I sleep better knowing they are safe, warm and comfortable. That's really the only way you will minimise the barking IMO. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Judging his performance on the news video I'd say it's a given ;)

The pictures were clear enough. The screen shots were clear enough. If you couldn't make anything out of them that tells us you do not have much experience or skill in analysing dog behaviour. That is ok, but it means your opinion on the incident doesn't matter. You didn't understand what was going on anyway. We do not know what other dog-control options are available to people in New Orleans. I respect people with opinions other than my own if they are put forward with a logical supporting argument. I do not respect the opinion of people that do not understand the subject, but have a go at those that do. I think Telida's posts have been informative, and although she has not changed the opinion of the zealous, she has been able to explain the behaviour to the people that are interested in knowing what it all means before forming an opinion. That is the great thing about these forums, people can be educated, and then use that knowledge to avoid problems. It is not required that they all post here to agree or disagree. People can do their own further research if they feel that they need to verify any of the assessments made here about the dog behaviour. I couldn't make anything out of them because all I could see was a smudge (I am looking at it from an iPhone screen) it has nothing to do with my prior experience with dogs or dog behavior and I feel I've had enough to be able to give my input thanks :) you can ignore my comments if you choose...I'm not here to impress you or anyone else. I've already stated my opinion pages ago - I just find it amusing that some choose to go on and on and on... When really your not changing anyone's mind :) trolling at its finest ;) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Haha you found that insulting? Don't worry... Incase you haven't noticed I'm one of those people that always has to have the last word too :) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Those pictures posted weren't very clear... At least I couldn't make anything out in most of them. But bull breed or not I still would not agree with the dog being shot. Doesn't matter what the breed was, I believe there are other options available. I don't know why you've bothered wasting your time trying to change others opinions when people have made it quite obvious that it's not going to happen. You must be one of those people that must. Always. Have. The. Last. Word... And can't respect that people have opinions differing to your own. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

People discussing the behaviour of the dogs aren't taking a stab at bull breeds either. We haven't blamed the dog who was the victim of the attack, suggested that "someone else" should have been called or suggested that the attacking dogs were somehow completely blameless. Believe it or not, for some of us breed is irrelevant. We aren't seeking to demonise the dogs. But gee it would be nice to see you attempt to stand in the shoes of the police officer, given what he had been told and how the dog came on. Its all well and good to talk about what you might have done and how any of us might have acted but the only decision that counts is whether or not HE thought the dog constituted a threat. Allegations that he "charged in threateningly" and the like simply don't stand up in the face of the actual footage. Frankly that's all I've been wanting to discuss. I'm not sure what else there is to discuss?! Everyone has stated their opinions and it seems unlikely to change... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Shoot pets?? just 'cause they attacked a police dog..???? hardly justified. Pets don't chose their owners. And yet we've just had people say that any police dog that enters their premises is mincemeat. Those dogs were secure inside the house until the owner bolted out the back door and the dogs followed. What are the police supposed to do?? Take their chances? It took OC spray and tasers to deal with those two dogs. The way I read what he said was that ANY dog that did that (not just police dogs - like his dogs know the difference) would have the same result. Any dog that came onto my property would face the same. Not because I have a meth lab in my garden shed and I am a criminal (I don't by the way) but because it is my dogs property and they will protect it and me from anything they see as a threat. Although I am pretty sure if it was just police, no dogs the cops would get covered in licks instead. I'm just glad that the police agree that they were just doing their job and don't by into the media's usual verbal word vomit against "pit bull" type dogs. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Using this chart I have one very angry little girl on my hands :) She regularly barks in an "angry" manner while looking "alert" when she is playing or being cheeky. ;) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk hahahaha yep, my dog gets stressed everytime i scratch him behind the ear. What a load of nonsense! Edit : oh and he relieves stress everytime he gets up from a sleep Haha yeah apparently my two are very stressed as well :) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Maybe they asked the owner?? He was there after all. I dunno, he didn't seem to open for discussion when the reporter shoved a mic in his face asking if his dogs were dangerous  Yes he seemed to be gesticulating in an odd manner, perhaps it was the sign language for Arm-staff lol if it is, I must of missed that lesson ;) haha Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I can read my dogs pretty well actually. I know when he is happy, anxious etc, although I am the only person in my house that can. The OH has no idea. There are only a few things that I don't entirely understand but we will be going to training to fix that anyway. Bella on the other hand doesn't have an aggressive bone in her body and I have never had any concerns yet. I find it scary that there are so many seemingly trigger happy people... I am glad you don't live in my neighbourhood.. there would be dead dogs everywhere ;) Good, you be very scared of us then. Lock up your pitbulls. Don't be too sure you will learn how to understand dog communication at training. Behaviour assessment is a different frield than behaviour modification. You will be lucky if that sort of thing is discussed during training, even if you are fortunate enough to have an instructor who understands it themselves. I posted a chart here the other week about canine postures, I will have a look around when I get home tonight and see whatother resources I can find. It's probably worth doing a seperate thread, as the ''language'' is common to all dogs. It's all good, I've spoken to the lady in detail about it before and she has dealt with many dogs with similar issues. I've got it covered :) lol my "pit bulls" are very well contained now so looks like I've got nothing to worry about ;) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Wow, she is looking fantastic compared to her first pictures. I don't know how anyone could let a dog get that bad, that nearly had me in tears. Great work on helping her get healthy!

Just watching the video now... apparently they were "greeted by two vicious dogs"... a Pit Bull and an "ArmStaff cross" gotta love the media. http://au.news.yahoo.com/queensland/a/-/newshome/13051266/hero-police-dog-attacked/ He only has visible injuries to his leg and will be back at work in two weeks. F11 I'd like to know how they came to the conclusion with the breeds as well?!
-
I was just curious to know. Generally when ever a "Pit Bull" type dog is involved its like a little witch hunt - but I rarely see the same reaction with other breeds. I've spoken to people that only see breed... one breed = good... other = bad and nothing you do will change that. Eg. I own two AmStaffies and my little sister had 3 APBT's. My Nanna hates by the APBT's but adores my dogs. She also won't believe that they are nearly the same thing in terms of appearance and personality. she is a little crazy though  . At the end of the day I don't like to see any animal killed when (I see) there are other alternatives.

Paralysed Pitty Pup Rescued From Plastic Bag
Jade~Harley~Bella replied to a topic in General Dog Discussion
I don't really believe in miracles either, but come on... she was about to be thrown in the bin. She is very lucky to be alive and I am sure not a lot of people would be willing to put the time and effort that these people have in getting her back on her feet. It is a feel good story... it is suppose to make you happy and joyful that there are actually nice people in this horrible world. -
Remember we are all watching from different eyes so it may as well be like watching a different video. You either agree with the office shooting the dogs or you don't. End of story. No one is going to change anyone's opinion on that so all the "your wrong, I'm right" banter is really just pointless. I'm just curious to know though... if we change the breed involved and put in for example a Dobe, GSD, Greyhound, Rotty, Mastiff, poodle, cattle dog (I don't have anything against these breeds by the way, I love all dogs regardless of their faults ;) ). Would you all agree that the dog should be shot? Or would it suddenly change to "Oh, it was just playing" :) and be honest!
