  1. Good post. If he is not papered get him neutered. I am sick of seeing AmStaffs on kill lists every week due to BYB's overbreeding because it is an easy way to make a quick buck. And you do need to look at what temperament you would be passing on. For example, my boy is dog aggressive... Part my fault for lack of solialisation but also it is his genetics. We had him done and from an early age and knew he should never be used to breed with - not that we would have anyway, because he is unpapered and we are responsible :) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. I can only give an opinion on from an adopters point of view... But I would want all history disclosed so I knew what I was getting myself into so to speak. I don't think it should really be an option, everything should be disclosed. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. The only positive for me is seeing the pictures of people's gorgeous dogs and sharing stories. Most of my experiences to date haven't been what one would call pleasant... but that's life and I'm not really fussed (if I was I wouldn't be lurking here still :p) There certainly is a culture to attack anyone that has a differing opinion and I think once that changes and everyone goes from berating people to educating them in a non patronising way, you will find more people stay. Out of all the forum goers I've talked to, none have had a nice thing to say about this particular one. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. I desexed my boy to get his hormones under control and my girl so we didn't have any accidents with other neighbourhood dogs. It does help prevent illnesses when they are older though. If you are planning on breeding I'd look into that implant a previous poster suggested and scrap neutering :) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. I had my amstaff boy snipped at 1 and a half. IMO the sooner the better and I would have had him done at 6 months if I had my time again... It's easier to prevent bad behavior than change a bad habit. I agree with not desexing larger breed dogs until they are fully grown. But AmStaffs aren't really considered a large breed. Clickers are relatively cheap to buy, they certainly have a sound of their own, much louder than the click of a pen. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. Has he been neutered? My boy's humping stopped once he was done. My little miss had her first visit to the dog park last weekend and was humped for the first time ever and didn't take to kindly to it. She is a moody little one that's for sure. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. My two are the same! I've found the older they get the less spaz they become though! Lol well most of the time! I think Bella may be spaz forever. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. People can just be uneducated about choosing breeds and pick the cutest puppy they see, or their friend owns. I am the first to admit that I didn't look at breed characteristics before I selected my current chosen breed (amstaffies) and if I did research properly I can bet I would have chosen something smaller and not so hypo, not that I would change it now though :) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. Hahaha I didn't have a cushion to throw! But I know what you mean! :p Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. Amazing, isnt it. About time people woke up and smelt the coffee. That segment was just a plug for buying puppies from pet shops. Very disappointing. Yeah that just made me cringe. They really have no idea Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. Sounds good on paper. But yet again only the responsible will comply. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. My little girl is also a jumper. We ended up raising the height of the fence and putting her in a run during the day. It was the only way to stop her. Angled fencing might help though depending on how high/far he can jump. We've only just started letting her out when we aren't home sometimes. We haven't had any problems since luckily. 13. I don't feel at all sorry for these people. I mean seriously, if it was me... Alarm bells would be ringing when for starters when they only have to pay shipping??! And then want cash sent via western union to Cameroon. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. How scary! I'd be locking all gates if it was me. I suppose that's one of the problems of living in such a busy place :/ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Lol my two do the same! Any exercise I do = I must be playing with them! Lol Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. What of the lead/collar showed no visible signs of wear? I don't think anyone is to blame, it was an accident. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. I would take Zeus to another place to exercise or change the time of day you go so that you avoid the problem dog. Not all dogs have to like each other. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. + one for this comment. He had his dog restrained (for obvious lack of recall) and I'm sure when he left for the park he had no idea the lead would break. Do you expect him to never take the pup anywhere because there is a rare chance the lead may snap? Accidents happen. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. I wish more people would remember this. Everyone's dog and everyone's lifestyle is different. I wish people wouldn't be so judgmental about dog food - some people's dogs get sick on raw food, some people's dogs are allergic to this kibble or that kibble. My dogs did fine on Evil Hills Science Diet and they do just as fine on Royal Canin. I am sure they would have been fine on Black Hawk, I just preferred to get them a kibble that was guaranteed to always be easy to source. I think there are even a few people here who feed their dogs 'supermarket' kibble/wet foods and their dogs do fine/better on it than they do on premium kibble. It's like the whole "you must feed bones"/"you should never feed bones" debate. No one is right or wrong and no one can win. I think it's fine to put forward what you do and what your preference is, but then leave it at that. To be honest, there are many who probably think that one is a bad owner just because one feeds one's dog kibble rather than a raw diet so all of us kibblers are naughty regardless of brand  Good comment! :) I've just taken my two off of Canidae, their farts were rank. I've put them on some other stuff (that I can't remember the name of). I brought my mum a bag too to see if it will help improve the skin condition of her GSD, apparently it is fantastic for skin problems. My dogs do great on anything really. Eukenuba, advance, hills. It's all good IMO. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. I grew up on a cattle grazing property and our dogs were never contained. They had free run of the property and from what I remember a few use to love chasing the cattle. We had prize winning chickens and roosters too but foxes and a giant carpet python got most of them. Sure it's the farmers right to do what he pleases on his land, but I agree with giving people the benefit of the doubt. If it was a regular occurrence sure put them down, if not do your best to contain them and contact the owner. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. Makes you wonder how many chipped dogs aren't reunited with their owners because they were never scanned properly. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. I've never been able to feel my two's chips. Probably too fat :p Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. They aren't prohibited in Australia, they are just a restricted breed. You are still allowed to own one in the NT and ACT and depending on what council you live in they are either banned or not... meaning they won't register it and if you are found to have one you can either fight them in court to prove it is not one or the dog gets PTS regardless of whether its the friendliest dog in the world or an aggressive one. Pit Bull is a blanket term used to describe any muscular looking dog generally by people that have no idea what a American Pit Bull Terrier actually looks like. Could be anything an APBT, AmStaff, Boxer x lab... really you are screwed unless you have papers proving its pedigree - in there eyes if it looks the part it is. In QLD there are laws stating an AmStaff can not be an APBT and vice versa so the laws aren't as harsh as they are in other states like Victoria. Considering the APBT isn't actually an official breed in Australia they are really just condemning every dog that fits the "standard".
  24. Or you just can't be bothered writing the whole name out... I'm not going to type out American staffordshire terrier every time I talk about my dogs. AmStaffy is much easier ;) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk You don't have to, that is the "Amstaff" :) the name I use depends on who I am talking to... someone with no idea what a Stafford is = english staffy, someone who knows = stafford... feeling lazy = staffy :) Its only been in the last 7 or 8 months that I found out they weren't actually called an english staffy but a Staffordshire Bull Terrier or Stafford, I'd never researched this particular breed so I had no idea.
