  1. Hairy Maclary is 15 years old and at the RSPCA Canberra. Is there someone that could possibly take this lovely elderly gent?? Hairy Maclary is a very elderly dog who really just wants a home where he can live out the rest of his life in peace. Even though he is quite old, he still likes human company and would like a home where he can be kept mainly as an indoor dog. Hairy is a lovely old boy who deserves a place to be loved and a bed to lie on in the sun. Animal ID: 95444 Sorry can't work out how to save off photos from the RSPCA site.
  2. I've been told that the male (the lighter one) attacked the female last night, the owner's son is seriously considering putting the boy down. He had to literally prise the jaws apart. So we would be looking for a nice home for the dark girl if anyone can fit her in??? From what I can gather neither dog has been socialised with other dogs or cats so that would need to be taken into account. They are both desexed, are fully vaccinated, microchipped (Canberra). Unsure about heartworm. The fight was the last straw, both dogs are headed to Canberra Pound so if there is any assistance you can provide JRT Rescue that would be great.
  3. I have been asked if I know anyone that can assist these two lovely old souls. Ages 10 years, 1 male, 1 female, both desexed, vaccinated etc are in need of foster care or permanent placement. Original owner was put in a position where she had to relocate to a new rental property that doesn't allow animals. They could potentially be separated but it would be better if they could be homed together it possible. They are currently on the RSPCA waiting list for surrender but given the amount of puppies and pregnant mums they currently have in care at the moment time will run out well and truly for these two because they have been told that they have to wait until 2 spots become available. They are currently in care with a relative in a rental that also doesn't allow animals so time is very limited. If they can be placed before having to do the pound thing given their age it would be awesome. Is there anyone that could potentially take 1 or both of these guys? I can provide photos in the next day or so if that helps.
  4. Emily Brightside How do you know the real reason the dog was surrendered? A family pet bites the baby, they love the dog and don't want their child at risk...so they dump it and say they can't afford it anymore, I come to your pound and buy this dog, you didn't do any temperament testing and you want the dog alive and rehomed asap, I take my new bargain dog home and it attacks my baby the next day. Do you have a duty of care in this situation, or hold any responsibility? Do you have a good reputation to maintain, if not your own, the reputation of the industry you represent? You'll be deleted you know, for asking the wrong (but very relevant) questions! You would laugh if it wasn't so irresponsible. More than likely but I'm not the only one asking the same questions

  6. Just a bit of an update, I whether the dogs were temp tested prior to adoption which is what most rescues do, here's the response. Cindy Samuel so the dogs are not temperment checked before adoption? Pound Rounds Cindy dogs in the general population are not checked at any time when being given away free or sold to new homes - and pounds - especiually rescue make up a tiny percentage of ANY dogs going to new home at all - given that coupled with the fact that even by the NSW Companion Animal Report on Dangerous Dogs you are less than 0.000046% likely to be injured by a pet dog - then the first question should be are they being saved - are they being rehomed alive and how can we help.
  7. I wonder if the 'new owner' is expected to pay for the vet work, a lot depends on the wording. The $50 could be for springing the animal, then the owner is then responsible for the rest??
  8. Below is an advert one of the Canberra Facebook Pets for sale pages. Please correct me if I'm wrong but they are offering to pull the selected dog from the pound and only charge $50 to cover all vetting?? 9. interestingly though when I googled Amstaff and Pitbull it was saying that they are both slang terms for the same dog which makes it even more confusing
  10. I noticed on Renbury's site a dog that was listed that it wasn't available until after an assessment by a qualified person (or something similar), I'm presuming this is to ascertain whether said dog was American Pit Bull. The thing that is confusing me is there were a number of dogs that looked similar, why this specific dog and not others?
  11. Oh my never even considered one of these, but sigh ..... I doubt she will last very long before a new home is found!!!
  12. I'm probably already suggesting things you've already tried but thought I'd throw it out there just in case :) - do you get itchy when you handle the chickens Rascalmyshadow ?? that's how you will generally know if its mites or lice. - wild birds will bring them in so DE in the dust bathing area is a good move (the wild birds will also dust bathe in it and demite themselves) which hopefully will stop the mites coming into the yard. - DE will need to be redone after rain as water deactivates it. - you can ivamectin (moxidectin) the chooks as well the same stuff you use for the dogs (3 drops for bantams under the wing directly on skin,4 for large girls) - you bagging or burning any litter you remove before cleaning? that would happen to be the most common mistake (spreading it on the garden) which will only spread the infestation. - pyrethrum spray you can get in concentrated form and diluted down (from places like Bunnings in the garden section) can be used as a dip for the chickens as well as a spray that you can drench everything else in including the ground. if its the food that the dogs are reacting to it could be one of the grains in the mix/pellet. I would be definitely set a pen up for the girls that has been thoroughly covered in pyrethrum first and isolate them completely from the dogs and see if it helps. Chickens are creatures of habit so they will not like it initially but they do get use to things fairly quickly so don't fret about confining them. Hope that something in there might help, I feel for you its so hard and mites are an awful problem to get on top of if that is the issue, the first frost will kill them (little ray of light at the end of the tunnel).
  13. I have a large lambswool one you can have and alter if needed to fit, though it is pink  you're welcome to it Alyosha It came with my foster girl Terah from Sydney RSPCA, they were kind enough to fit her out free when I offered to buy one for her given the change in climate. I'm in Gilmore
