  1. I do have a toy breed aswel compared to a staffy... But if your girl and father are being really great parents why would you want to rid of them? Sounds like the pups have the best parents ever :-) Sent from my GT-N7105T using Tapatalk
  2. Haha my pups were hardly on their feet at 3.5 weeks. Mum was still in the box cleaning, feeding and watching them at 5 weeks, she is a great mother she was with them for 20 hours a day, proberly more when they were born. My pups follow mum around the yard and smell what she smells and follow her around looking for food, mum even picks up a big mouthful of kibble and drops it in front of the pups to share now. 3. This is my girl about 6 months old, she weighed about 23kgs but she is heavy boned compared to her litter mate who was 19kgs and is alot smaller and light boned. Sent from my GT-N7105T using Tapatalk
  4. Hi there, I am not very experienced in GSD but have been involved with a friend who breeds and shows for about 5 years. I currently have one of her pups at 9 months old now. Now before you do ANYTHING ALWAYS CONTACT THE BREEDER FIRST!!!! This is very important, a GSD doesn't stop growing and maturing until 18 months old. Depending on how your pup has been raised I do not think it would have Hip Displaysia now. Or elbow in that fact, they are unrelated (as in he has HD so it must have bad elbows too) No do not listen to your vet and definitely do NOT do any surgery... It is all $$$$ with many general vets. As I previously said he is only 5 months old, he is growing and they do go through a lanky stage. Your breeder should have gone through this with you when you bought your pup. GSD are a quick growing dog and do very well with added calcium in their food (cheese, yougurt, sardines) As others have previously said weight can affect and put pressure on them and can make HD a issue, they are a lean working dog and should not be fat. Their ribs should be felt quite easily, Your puppy should avoid jumping on things because this can help tear their ligaments which will issue with HD. Everything I have mentioned here is what my BREEDER told me and what I have done with my GSD. I urge you to get in contact with your breeder and take it from there. If that doesn't happen try calling your state german shepherd club and I am 100% they will be able to offer you advice and help :-) You should post some photos of your little man Sent from my GT-N7105T using Tapatalk
  5. I have just had my first litter, they are almost 10 weeks old, mum didn't stop feeding them until 8 weeks when I put a shirt on her. She was and still is a great mum, my male has just gone to my mums house and I still have the 2 girls. It is super important to make surr they have enough time with mum before leaving... they learn heaps off her in the 6-12 weeks I think. In the mean time I personally think you should keep them for another 2 weeks, make time to only have 1 pup out at a time so the other litter mate doesn't depend on the other sibling. My bitch didn't even start playing with the pups until 8 weeks... and they need mum to put them in their place when they are becoming 'too' full on Sent from my GT-N7105T using Tapatalk

  7. Thanks, yeah I don't want to force the training on them but make sure they are comfortable. Sent from my GT-N7105T using Tapatalk
  8. Thanks I'll try having a collar on them or some sort of thread thing, they are tiny not even 1kg yet haha. they are ok with the leads to drag around the house they just seem to hate to not be free and restrained if that makes sense? will try the back of the table thing and each day we will take baby steps :) I have 3 leads here, two are made of nylon thread? one has beads which makes it heavier and mums special braided lead but they enjoy chewing so I cant trust them with it. 9. Hello all! I have 3 8.5 week old papillon pups here who I am running on, most likely keeping 2 but still got the other to hang onto. This is my first litter and I got mum (Lily) at 8 months already lead trained and just had to work on her walking and table skills. Now these pups have been on a leash twice, I have one bitch who is GREAT on the table really relaxed and walks nice on a lead. The dog cries an screams when the lead goes tight and goes *PLONK* Bum on the floor. He has walked to me on a loose lead this arvo 3 times (little walk) and each time I gave him heaps of praise and took off the lead after the 3rd walk. The other bitch screams, cries and goes mental and runs around when the lead is firm. She walked to me on a loose lead like the boy 3 times, lots of praise each time and 3rd go let her off the leash. Now on the table the female pup that walks nice is very calm and relaxed (she is my pick bitch) the boy has his front feet stretched right in front of him at the start and eventually relaxes. The other girl gets nervous and all cramped up and doesn't stand very nice, she has a great length of body but appears hunched. How is the best way to get the pups to RELAX on the leads and relax on the tables? Please any tips or advice, do I keep calm and supportive when walking them or be more firm? Bloody hell the neighbour's proberly think I am slaughtering them! I know they are still babies but I want to make this enjoyable for them and want them ready if possible at 12 weeks for their first show! :-) Sent from my GT-N7105T using Tapatalk

  13. Was going to suggest a Papillon! I kid you not they are like a large dog in a small dogs body! I grew up on 1 and a half acres with my papillon, german shepherd, beagle and a groodle. Each dog has their pros and cons but overall the paps are very active but also great at being a calm lap dog when wanted, most are obedient and very clever. They are such a happy lively breed with personality plus, suited for any life style Sent from my GT-N7105T using Tapatalk
  14. Dr Nick West is quite good, he is very professional. he works at mclaren vale and coromandel valley. Most of his desk staff are ridiculous and they really irritate the heck outta me... But he has had a fair amount of experience with breeders over the year Sent from my GT-N7105T using Tapatalk

  21. No I was not expecting that at all! I knew breeding was hard work and expensive but now I have the raw insight! Babies are the most gorgeous little things, the boy is going to be a handsome little man just like his beautiful father. 2 girls are going to be cheeky little things... Their weights have gone up and feeding great, ♡♡♡ im so in love Sent from my GT-N7105T using Tapatalk

  24. Here is my story... as a breeder you must be prepared for anything. Lily was day 54 into her pregnancy from first mating. I had set up her whelping box in the spare room and she had been sleeping in there by herself for the past week. It was a Saturday night and I thoughy next week she would be getting closer and I would need to stay in the room with her during the night. Sunday morning I woke and walked in to see lily had shredded newspaper ever where and she had a pup in her bed. It was cold and it I held it with my warm shift and the little darling took two gasps and passed away. poor baby didn't have much hair. Lily looked upset and she gave it a few licks but wasn't interested. She was fine the rest of the day and we went to the vets, quite strange so we assumed she aborted it or it got pushed out because lily was huge. I took her temp from then on and at 9pm her temp was 36.8 next two days it was 37.7-37.5. Wednesday I had spent the whole day in the room with her and at 4.45pm she frantically starts digging her bedding, we had 5 mins of light pushing and grunting and then baby girl 1 was born. After that we had nothing for 2 hours, hmm thinking maybe she is having a rest but concerned as baby is a premie and has no fur on back legs. Mum has no milk as she still has a week to go. Nothing all afternoon and vet checks hearts etc on babies, theu are still fine? I have been supplement sponge feeding premie girl every 2 hours the past 2 days and put mum on fernugreek, premie had been getting stronger and mum had started getting colostrum and by thursday evening pup was drinking from mum. Friday morning we were quiet and by 4pm she had started labour AGAIN! We had a water sack at 4 but no contractions so back to the vet we went and we induced her and got the last 2 pups out happy and healthy! How about that for a first litter...
