  1. You can buy puppy milk from the supermarket. Pal put one out so does Natures Own. It's usually near all of the foods and chews for pups. my breeder also uses puppy milk for supper. BTW wylie, they can't go and get themselves vaccinated either.
  2. I'm wondering also, did the vet suggest anything aother than Pal? When to bring her back if there's no great improve? What to look for ?( well I spose we know that ) At what stage you might consider suppositries? can't spell it? Why isn't there a spell check here? pewithers is right. How long has it been now? What about puppy milk?
  3. Did you ask the Vet if he/she has shares in Pedigree Pal? I agree 100% with Wylie's advice. A tin of Sardines in vegetable oil, good quality coldpressed olive oil or my favourite coldpressed flaxseed oil ( from health food shops) If it was my dog, I 'd probably cut down the food intake for a while , so as to not block her up anymore than necessary. ....not stop feeding of course just cut down , maybe by a 1/3?
  4. L.B. where do you get the BARf patties? I've seen some meat vegie -like little meatballs- in supermarket, but haven't been game to try them.
  5. But how do you know that they are getting the right stuff? Everything I have read seems so complicated and precise. A pinch of this no more than twice a week, a teaspoon of that once a fortnight, this no less than once a week , this amount of that once each day :shakehead: It seems you'd have to have a separate meal for AM and PM and for each day. My dogs get bones, raw meat, eggs, sardines, rice, pasta but they also get commercial dry food. But it's all very unplanned. raw meat and dry food each day is a given, but the others are added when i think " hmmm....the haven't had an egg for a few days , I'll add that in tonight" I did feed only BARF for about 6 months, but I never felt confident that they were getting all that they needed. One of my dogs had a (skin redness) reaction, to one or more of the vegies, but although i tried through a process of elimination, i never found out what it was. It was only a month or so after i quit all vegies that the skin cleared up. Some breeds need more protein, some less ;) more of this at that age, less of that at this age  I do agree with the natural feeding in theory, but as I said i failed to come up with a regime that was realistic in terms of preparation , for me( i like to make a weeks or two worth and freeze it ), and that i felt confident my dogs were getting all that they need at each stage of life. So i suppose this is a longwinded question. How long did it take you to come up with your current menu? was it by trial and error? or breeder recommendations? is it the same every day? Do you supplement the diet with additives? how long have you been barfing? If you don't buy it already prepared do you measure meticulously and change for different stages of growth, fitness, etc? ;)
  6. Buy ready made or make it yourselves at home? As i browse through these posts i see that some barfers recommend ready made foods from greenpet or vets all natural etc. So I'd like to find out from all BARFers why they buy/make it? What they think are the benefits /drawbacks?
  7. What a week!!!! Hope you and puppy are feeling better in no time :strong: :strong: ( one for each of you) Hopefully puppy will sleep well tonight after such a big day Thinking of you both
  8. I've been chatting with friends and we don't know the correct answer. I thought you guys might be able to help. When my friend's staffy had surgery someone told her to apply vitamin E oil to the skin to reduce visible scarring. She did this to no avail. We've been wondering if it was just an old Wives tale ? or was the information incorrect? She thought maybe she should have used Vitamin E cream, ( I thought oil sounded more appropriate), and then someone else said it was Apricot Kernal Oil that should have been used. I thought that was for human stretchmarks Anyone ever found from experience, anything that worked? it's too late now for the little staffy, but we all want to know , just because it's bugging us?
  9. Hope you have a more stress less day today, now that you don't have to be so worried about your baby. Sounds like baby is on the mend
  10. I forgot to ask, and this just came to me when I was lying in bed last night Do you pick him up and carry him around at all? The reason I ask is because I'm a shocker with picking up baby puppies. I looove to walk around with a pup in my arms. My dogs just get too big too fast Anyway, my obedience instructor always tells people " Don't pick the puppy up and walk around with it!!" She says the dog then thinks that it is equal to you.( height level thing, and the dog being raised to your level) She says by all means, get down on the floor with the dog let it on your bed, couch, whatever if you like, but don't lift the dog to your level.Get down to it, but then at any stage that it gets cocky, you can raise yourself up and be higher than it at any time you wish. not sure if that helps ;) Just came to me.
  11. Good on you The bonus is that he's still so young, and already you're getting on top of it. I'm sure you will have him on track in no time and will enjoy many years with your beautiful, well behaved boy ;)
  12. It certainly sounds like he's trying to dominate you. Sounds like he's demanding that you give him the attention he wants when he wants it. Hmmmm... That doesn't help to solve the problem much though does it Have you tried holding his head ( by the cheeks) and growingling at him " No Barking" ? Maybe hold him still, with a collar or on a lead for a while and growl, or light smack if you believe in that, everytime he tries to bark or move away from your grip. I know it doesn't help for now but he certainly is dominating, or trying to. I can't remember do you go to obedience classes? You may also want to try going out in the yard with him for a while and every time he begins to bark go inside. then minutes later outside again and keep it going and hope he gets the picture ;) Basically I think you need to sit down and figure out what you are prepared to do or not do to teach this dog that you are the pack leader ( Cos I'm sorry to say but at the moment he is) . But you're not alone, cos I have an 11 month old dog that Im still trying to learn to be dominant over. Must be boys! That'd be right!! Sorry I'm not much help. I'll keep thinking about it.
  13. I had this problem with a dog I was looking after for a few months. Only happened when he was outside. He wasn't bored plenty to do and others to play with. Everytime it occured I would open a door or window and call out in my voice " NO Barking!!" as soon as he heard the voice and tone he would turn to look at me and of course was quiet at that moment, then I would say in my sweet voice " good boy!". At first I was doing this about every ten minutes and after a day or two he stopped. He was a dream after that. It could becharacter of a ' pleaser ' though. My dogs don't bark for no reason or to get attention, I have taught them all from baby puppies the same way. Just thought I'd let you know of my experience. Although I'm probably not much help because boxers generally speaking, are not big yappers. keep trying! I'm sure you'll get there in the end! Have you tried asking the breeder what they would do? or have done in the past?
