Thankyou.I already have been lined up with a new dog so have spent this morning getting bed and blankies ready etc . . . Its a Cavalier x Pug so very different to Pearl.So I await her arrival . . . The pics of Pearl are just beautiful.She does love balls!! Her face just radiates happiness.Love that girl xx

I just have to share my good news with you all . . . .Last night,the local dog coordinator for DCH Animal Rescue rang me.She had seen the photos of Pearl and how happy she now looks and has offered to sign me up as a new foster carer.As long as I pass the fencing checks etc, ill now be able to help lots of other doggys on their way to a better life.So I guess ill be spending a bit more time on DOL seeking lots of advice and learning from you all.Im happy to help in rescue as I believe it to be such a worthy cause. I have informed my Pharaoh of this and he didnt seem pleased lol.He does like to be KING and as he is rather handsome, he gets so spoilt. I hope Pearl continues to do well.I know the house she came from had many free roaming cats and kittens in the yard which she was in so she did have access to them as they slept under the house with her.So hopefully with a bit of training, the desire to eat cats will stop.I knew she was great with all dogs having lived with many of them,both large and small.She also never showed any sign of human aggression or even food aggression. I found her to be rather stubborn, selectively deaf but a sweet personality and always up for a cuddle.

Pearl has left to go into the care of Kelscat.She carried her yellow ball in her mouth all the way to the car and climbed her way in. I too cant wait for updates along the way.We all miss her very much xx

Thank you everyone.I must admit I feel rather hollow this morning knowing she will leave tonight but Im confident she will go on and do well for herself.I do think I would have kept her myself if not for being a renter and the difficulties that causes when you have pets.Upon that topic,I could write a book . . .I am sure Kelscat will keep us all updated. Pearl is out in the yard huffing and grunting as she chases her ball around. Ill miss her xx

These pics of Pearl were taken today.She is doing well as they can attest.Pearl may be going into the care of Kelscat who will continue with her vetwork and rehome her into a good home. It hasnt been finalised yet but already I feel a sense of dread at saying goodbye to this gorgeous girl.But I know she has a chance now for a better life than from where she came from and will never again be left in such an apalling state of health.Hope you like the pics.

I own a Pharaoh and I am seeing more and more of this elegant breed ending up in rescue . . .reading this makes me very sad.

I would never feed it to Pearl! I just wondered if anyone had bought it and how they found it . . .I really had to wonder what was in it for that price.Ugh!

I attend a vet whose practice is located in a suburb which could certainly be classed as disadvantaged.He is very well priced for his services and never turns clients away regardless of ability to pay. Anyway,I was asking him recently about dry dog food and which brands he could recommend to me . .. He said Surepet from Kmart at $9 for an 8kg bag was a pretty good food overall.I personally wouldnt want to use it but was wondering if anyone had tried it and was it any good?Does Kmart buy it from a dog food manufacturer or is it made just for them? I have been using Supercoat but am going to make the move to ProPlan.

Exercise - Pearl doesnt go for walks.She just plays with her ball in the yard . . .snuffling it and carrying it around.I used to throw it for her but have stopped as it makes the limp worse.So I now put her ball in the clam pool and she just slobbers and paddles around in that so its not really that much exercise.? Her spine dips down into a sag and then elevates into a hump over her hips.Her left shoulder is more pronounced than the other and her hips are rotating inwards as the vet said.He said rickets is rare these days as even basic dog foods contain enough nutrition to prevent it but she is the first case he has seem in over ten years. I have her on fish oil and have enriched her diet with eggs and Jalna Yoghurt etc etc . . .. will Megaderm and Protexin be of any major help? Also lately she has developed a fixation on balls . . .If she doesnt have a ball with her constantly,she will get really anxious,panting and barking.I have taken the ball away but I give in after she barks for half an hour and gets herself so worked up . . . .Its only bee the last two weeks I am noticing this is getting an issue but she panics if she doesnt have that ball. He has left her on Prednisone for another 3 weeks and then we have another checkup.

Pearl saw the vet today.She is DEFINITELY not pregnant! He believes she has a low grade uterine infection so she is back on antibiotics for that.Her weight is 19.4kg so even though ive doubled her feeds to 2 per day,she has lost a little weight. He commented that her skin seemed red on the bald patches and after some discussion we came to the conclusion . ..its my fault!! I have been washing her with Malaseb shampoo and wasnt aware you had to dilute it prior to putting it on the dog.No real warning on the bottle so Ive been burning her twice a week and I didnt even know. He has also suggested trying her on Megaderm food supplement and Protexin.Any thoughts? He had a really good look at her today and suggested she has rickets or whatever the canine equivalent is . . .her knees are funny and she has an arch in her back.This he believes is from being bred young,bred often and fed a very poor diet . . . . A bit of a depressing day really . . .

This is my story . . . .I have been renting the same premises for SIX years.I have 1 dog and two indoor cats as well as the occasional foster dog.Rent is paid on time and in advance.There have NEVER been any issues with the pets and what they damage if anything,I repair. Now the landlord is not too keen on maintenance . ..the bathroom ceiling has mould and is made of foam so he wont clean or replace etc etc.I am installing ceiling fans in bedroom and lounge at my cost this week and changing a damaged door (not damaged by me,just old and needs replacing). I recently asked for a two year lease and it arrived in the mail as promised yet the Pet Clause had been removed.I rang the agent to find out why and this was the response . . . .The landlord is going to turn a bling eye to your pets but wont have it in writing that he has approved them being there.I was aghast! They offered no other explanation and the decision is firm so I can sign the lease with a $20 per week rent increase and have no legal protection to keep my pets or move.Yet I am not even worthy of an explanation . . . . I contacted Tenants NSW and Fair Trading and they were baffled by it. i WOULD LOVE TO HEAR FROM A PROPERTY MANAGER OUT THERE WHY THEY HAVE ACCEPTED AND CONDONED A CLIENT/LANDLORD OF THEIRS DOING THIS . . .!!!!

I'd be contacting the Pound in question and having a serious chat with the manager about his staff breaching the Privacy Act. It's actually a criminal offence to give out a person's details to a 3rd party without express permission to do so. T. I will have to do so.I have just seen that Pound Rounds has found me on Facebook and are sending me messages through there now.So are Pound Rounds a group of pound volunteers? They are wanting me to take more dogs on.Its unnerving being tracked down in such a way.

Oh please,dont say that! There is no blood,just stringy mucus.I wiped her and no blood at all.Can it be anything else? We are due to see the vet on Saturday.

I made an enquiry about a dog recently at a certain Sydney Pound.The day after,a lady from Pound Rounds rang me in order to help me with transport or kennelling etc.She was polite and friendly but obviously the Pound had given her my phone number.Now I get sms from this person asking me to look at other dogs. I understand they are trying to help but found it a breach of my privacy for my name and no to be given out like that by the Pound.

I bathed Pearl in her regular Malaseb bath today and I noticed she had stringy clear mucus like egg white hanging from her vagina.Can I assume she has gone on heat? Ill be manning the cannons!
