  1. I am now fostering the Cornish Rex.His name is Elfy and he is 3! PM if more details requied.
  2. I got in contact with the breeder now and he is sorting it out hopefully. It makes my blood boil to see her advertised in the way she is . . .undesexed.Ripe to be exploited!
  3. If anybody knows Famoso Cane Corso, please have them look here. One of your bitches is being advertised on Gumtree - Undesexed.I have tried the phone no on the Corso website but for some reason,I am getting an engaged signal for hours on end.I just feel a Cane Corso should be rehomed to an experienced home. The dog is located in Wollongong NSW area.
  4. It sounds like NI KOON DU - Nyekundu! It means red in Swahili. When I knew she was coming to me as a rescue/foster, we brainstormed names in a Pharaoh forum I belong to and that was the winner.I call her Kundu for short. Ill be there with both Pharaohs and a Cresty! Yell if you see me.
  5. Thanks.Im glad you all agree she is very special.I love taking pictures of her . .the camera loves her! We are doing the Million Paws Walk next Sunday down here in the Illawarra.I hope its good weather for all. Right now,Kundu and Kenny are both sharing a bed in the lounge and my current Chinese Crested Foster Fifi, is dreaming alongside them in a slightly smaller bed.Yes, Purdie . . .very much loved.
  6. Dogmad - She was a private surrender.Lovely girl!
  7. Hello! This is Fifi, my current foster girl. She has been an absolute pleasure to have around these last few weeks. She has a new home to go to very soon, one which she will share with some very nice Devon Rex cats.I just wanted to share some pics of her time with me. The last pic is one of the two cats she will be living with . . .Fat Albert at the rear and Harvey at front.I love Devons!
  8. Hi all, I havent been on here much at all lately but thought it high time I introduced . . Nyekundu! She came to me as a rescue, was rehomed and returned after not getting along all that well with the resident dog.To me, she is a super confident sassy girl who loves cuddles and long walks on the beach.Kenya,my boy Pharaoh is deeply in love with her.He follows her like a shadow and even shares his bed with her. Here are some pics I wanted to share with you all . . . I think she is beautiful.Do you? :D
  9. I can assume that good foster carers are not easy to come by and since their labour of love is entirely voluntary, often costing both time and money to them, then surely a rescue group would do everything possible to hold on to carers rather than dismiss them for foster failure. We are only human and surely one may come along and steal your heart to such an extent that they wish to adopt them and isnt someone with a heart the type of person that you want as a carer? I understand your concerns if it happened over and over again bringing their total number of pets to unsustainable levels but each situation is different. :)
  10. k9angel - What do you consider to be appropriate quarantine measures? Its very hard to do in a home environment and I too see rescue dogs going straight from the Pounds onto transport or direct into carers homes.Surely this is not best practice but with limited resources, what else can rescue groups do?
  11. Thankyou WestieMum.Support is everything and on DOL you have it in spades . . .all breeds and from all over Australia.I was given great advice which I gladly followed and as a direct result of this, I now foster for a great rescue group who again have provided me with advice, support and friendship.I have since rehomed 4 dogs into fantastic homes and want to continue this work for time to come.I have a special interest in Pharaoh Hounds and want to learn more about this magnificent breed and eventually move into breed rescue. I would have persisted with Pearl however long it took to get her out of there and would do the same again.Pearl was the catalyst for me to jump into rescue and I wont ever forget her. Before I came to DOL for advice on Pearl, I was warned by seasoned 'dog people' that DOL was a nasty place and one in which a newbie would be eaten alive.Well,I only came across good kind hearted people who helped and advised to no end.I am not interested in the games people play. I came here for Pearl and I will come back again for help again and again.I have learnt so much and there is more to learn.Pearl is why I do what I do . . . . .. Thankyou to all who helped me and advised me along the way and please keep answering the calls of help from other 'newbies'.The dogs need all the help they can get :)
  12. Hi Denise, I foster through DCH and live quite close to Flinders down here in Wollongong.Happy to help if you tell me your requirements . . . . Cheers Nina
  13. How lucky that Pearl did not have to have cruciate ligament surgery Kelscat . . .My vet did say it was an old injury and even though Im sure he missed a few things with Pearl, very glad to hear his aim on that one was correct.Did she have surgery on her haematoma ears or were they too far gone for repair? I think Pearl will do well in the future
  14. My fingers are crossed for Pearl. Her eyes were always so expressive right from the first day although it took a while for happiness to come into them. Please let us know how her interview goes . . .she only takes the best applicants ;)
  15. Rusty went to a fantastic new Sydney home today and is looking forward to long walks in Centennial Park.He left wearing his little blue shirt and a smile on his face On a side note . . .Max the Tibetan Spaniel X has arrived and ill do a thread for him when he is over his kennel cough and ready for pictures. He is gentle, quiet and again . . .a lovely little dog who will make an adorable mate for someone special.
  16. Rusty is having his first meet and greet tomorrow so paws crossed.I dont know about putting such conditions on the adoption . . if the new owners are happy to do so,brilliant but it cant be guaranteed. She (old owner) will get all the pics I took of him in care and an update letter on who he was homed with. Rusty is awesome! I cant really fault him. ;)
  17. The neighbours were of the same ilk as them so it doesnt really surprise me . . .its a high poverty area of high crime rates, squalid houses inhabited by drug users . . .can you see the picture clearer? Everybody surrounding that property is only living for themselves . . .for their next fix or their next rob and bash spree.A dog isnt of any worth to them whatsoever. I found an older chap further up the street who is reclusive and hates living there but has no other options. He told me there was a wild party at a property across from the one Pearl came from.Things got so bad with drink and drugs and in the chaos, some men took a dog and hung it to its death on the front balcony.I dont really doubt he is telling the truth and it is because of Pearl and dogs like her who havent been found yet that I have now entered rescue with a local reputable group. When and if I come across another dog like Pearl, ill have no hesitation in getting them out of a bad situation.None whatsoever. Im following Pearls further progress and it will be the cherry on top when she gets a DECENT home! :D
  18. This is Rusty today after he got home from the groomer. He is also sporting a new $2 shirt from Reject Shop Couture He has a lovely Sydney lady coming to meet him on Sunday and by all account,it seems a perfect fit. I have no idea why but when I have a prospective adoptive parent coming to meet a doggy, not only do I wash and groom the dog but im compelled to clean the house too.Silly women eh? Fingers crossed for Rusty!
  19. Bit O/T, I looked at Max's pic. He sure is a happy, people-centred doggie! That's a Tibbie nature. His snout is a bit stronger than the standard. But that's of no account in terms of being a happy, loving doggie who'll be a gem as a pet. I like the way the Volunteer Notes said he happily did what was asked, & got a 'lolly'! His coat looks a little neglected.....but he'll come up a gorgeous treat with a good bath & brush. Thank you for caring for him. Rusty's very cute. You can tell he's been much loved. It will make his 'mum's' heart glad that he still will be. Hi Mita, I cant wait to meet Max in person on Saturday.A trusted friend has already met him and told me how jovial he is.He will be off to the groomer next week to get spiffed for his profile pics.A good photo makes a real difference, I think.
  20. I am keeping a photo log of Rusty . .for each day he spends in care, I take one picture a day of him doing something whether that is eating his tea or at the beach. After he is adopted, ill visit his old owner in the nursing home and give her the photo book of his time with me up until his new adoptive home. One day, we will all be old and I hope my pets are treated with respect and dignity if I am ever unable to care for them any longer. But today I am Rusty free!! A local groomer does our DCH dogs as her way of contribution so he is there getting pampered and jazzed up! Rusty will have a new playmate on Saturday as I am taking a Tibetan Spaniel called Max from Renbury. My Kenya, the Pharaoh just gets so excited when I get the crate out of the garage because that means that a new doggy mate is coming and that is really EXCITING for Kenny.Last week, I rehomed a Pug to a fantastic new home but for a day after,Kenny wouldnt eat and was slumped in his bed very sad and missing her terribly . . .I brought out the big guns - BANANA CUSTARD!! That never fails to at least cheer him up until the bowl is empty
  21. I need another Devon like I need a hole in the head . . .said with L.O.V.E!I had to have a look anyway but they are not on the website . . . If all fosters were as good as Rusty, Id eat my hat!
  22. I just wanted to introduce my new foster through DCH Adoptions. His name is Rusty and he is a tiny wee Terrier x who was surrendered after his owner entered a retirement facility. He has only been with me for a few days but if I was wanting another dog,he would be it.He is used to living indoors and prefers to snooze on the couch whilst I watch Midsomer Murders and he even accompanies me to the loo lest I fall in the hole  .He was morose the first two days and wouldnt eat but my Pharaoh Kenny became his mate and sort of brought him out of himself.. I have spent the day sick in bd today and Rusty has stayed by my side content to be quiet and let me rest.I rather like dressing him up in cute coats too! If anyone is after a true loyal lapdog, perfect for an older couple then consider Rusty. He has even met my Devon Rexes and regards them with respect because they have the power of The CLAW!! Located in Wollongong NSW. http://www.petrescue.com.au/view/148125
