a friend of mine has an oddle. her parents loved the dog and wanted one just like it, they went out and bought an oddle from a pet shop and couldn't understand why there's has such a different personality...

Thanks so much for your input everyone. I might note they only reason why we are wanting a certain colour is because our current dog has very minimal pigment or markings on his face and he gets sunburnt easily so I would really like to avoid that if possible. The 3 breeders that we like all have links to each other’s websites on their own websites and they seem to share blood lines. Also, all their dogs have the same ‘ look’. Which is what I like a lot. After being on the sidelines and helping a friend show for a while I have decided I would like to show so we are looking for a pup on mains for this reason. We are defiantly happy to have a pup matched to suit us, I wouldn’t expect anything less and would value the breeders opinion on what they think would be suitable for us. We are open minded and if the breeder said to us that they had a pup that didn’t have the colouring we wanted but suited us in every other way there is no way we would discount that and defiantly take it on board. As I said I just didn't want to annoy anyone or waste anyone’s time which is why I thought I would let them know that I am talking to others. Thanks again everyone. Super excited to add to our family

Hi Everyone. A question I am a bit stuck on.... We have decided to get a new puppy. Have done a lot of research and have decided that there are 3 breeders that we like and would be honoured to have one of their pups. I have been in contact with one breeder and we are on the waiting list. Because we have 2 other breeders that we also like is it ok for us to contact the other 2 breeders and chat to them about their pups and maybe go on a waiting list for them as well? We are being very specific about the colour and coat of the pup we want so there is always a chance that we might not get one from the next litter. I would inform all breeders that we are on other lists of course. I guess I don’t want to offend anyone or step on anyone’s toes. Was wondering what you as a breeder would feel / think if someone contacted you with a similar situation? Thank you :)

Cool Dog Things That You Don't Need, But Want.
miss2 replied to LisaCC's topic in General Dog Discussion
ohhhh does anyone know where to buy the Ifetch in Australia? i NEED one haha i have a few LED collars for sale atm if anyone is interested, i love them, spud wears it at night on the farm :) -
apparently it did not smell like urine? toxins of the body would make sense but they would have to escape the body somehow. sheridan were you able to confirm it was tramadol? apart from drinking a LOT of water he is doing well today, back to his normal self. not sure about the bees, he is only a pup so im sure he trys to play with anything lol
-
i also asked that - they only response they gave was that he was clearly seeing things that were not really there... as far as i know there was no vommiting. nope, no cane toads. the dogs had all been given meat earlier in the evening, but all 3 ate it and no one else was sick. im fairly sure he is going to contact the breeder just to inform them. the breeder has been lovely during the whole buying process, calling and checking in to make sure pup was settling in so i think they would like to be informed about what happened to him this is him and his sister
-
Kelpiecuddles - super glad to hear shes ok now and it hasn't happened since. i think the unknown cause is the scary part
-
yep - that's prob correct dame Aussie, if his tongue was inflamed and he was salivating that could have been it. tbh i didn't even think of that.
-
it was my brother that said he was 'sweating' not sure what it was then, maybe he has wet him self and rolled in it? either way he was dripping wet
-
Sandra, that's exactly what i thought!! but apparently he was absolutely dripping even around his neck?

Thought I would share what happened with you all to my brothers pup over the weekend. On sat night at approx 10pm my brother and his wife were getting ready for bed, they started calling the dogs for toilet time before bed but couldn't locate Nev the 4.5 month old pup. They eventually found him curled up in their bed room dripping in his own sweat, unable to move his legs and with a swollen tongue. My brother raced him to the after hours emergency vet whilst my sister in law rang them to let them know he was on his way – they didn't think he was going to make the drive. Upon getting him to the vets they pumped him full of charcoal, fluids and put him on a drip. The vet suspected he had been poisoned and continuously asked them over and over if the neighbours maybe did not like the pup. The outcome was not looking hopeful. He left Nev there for the night and the vet said they would call and be in touch. The next morning the vet called to say Nev had started having hallucinations at around 2 am and had to be very heavily sedated. Apparently the poor little guy was seeing things that were not there and trying to throw himself against the cage. Due to the hallucinations the vet suspected he had maybe eaten mushrooms?? The family searched the backyard but could not find any evidence of mushrooms. At around 1pm on the Sunday he started to perk back up and his vitals started improving. 5 pm that day they were able to pick him up and bring him home – exhausted but mostly back to his normal self. Poor little thing had only been de-sexed on the Thursday – what an eventful week! The vets are still unsure as to what caused this and are thinking that possibly rotten meat was the cause but still cannot say for sure as the hallucinations were so strange. Has anyone else had any experience with poisoning or hallucinations in a dog?

Hi all. I did look this topic up first but the replies were a bit old so thought i would ask again. can anyone recommend a groomer in Canberra - pref North side please? we used to go to Macquarie but will no longer be going there. we then found another place close to us but i have been very unhappy with the clips the last few times and the time frames they have had the dogs for ( dropped off at 8am,first dogs to arrive, return at 6pm to find they still haven't been touched all the while others have been coming and going all day). I need to get 4 mini Schnauzers and a rough coat JRT. any recommendations would be appreciated! thank you :)

A Follow On Thread For Those Who Now Have Their Puppy
miss2 replied to julesluvscavs's topic in Puppy Chat
hi everyone, i was going through my phone and found some old puppy pics of my boy i thought i would share :) man sometimes i wish he was still that old haha -
Good on you for speaking to the breeder and thumbs up to the breeder for being supportive and offering assistance. good luck with it all, fingers crossed everything goes smoothly :)

Spud bounces on me at home, literally bounds from one spot to the other and uses me as a springboard It would be so nice to have a cuddle with him when he's not sleeping tikira haha
-
thank you, i will look into her stuff :) an off switch would be wonderful!
-
This would be the funniest thing ever haha bless, i can imagine him opening the fridge for cheese and bacon !
-
It's great that he loves jumps and tunnels, IMO he needs to also learn to be calm and careful and do very precise stuff too - such as the contacts and weaves I suggested. Another thought - flyball?? yep! that is a main problem is his calmness!! last night i signed up for our local obedience club, he has to start in beginners which is fine, once we have his distractions under control hopefully we can move up to some more advanced things :)
-
Thanks Megan I will have a look. He is very good at tug and will immediately stop if he makes contact with a hand, he can be super revved up and tugging and you can tell him he can have the toy but if your hand is on it he won't touch it! Hubby now wants me to teach him to get a beer lol
-
i think that's where i am confused, do i continue with this hunting instinct or try to move away... we have a small agility set up at home, hes AMAZING at the jumps and loves the tunnel more then anything, if i leave it set up and hes outside he will spend hours running in and out of the tunnel by him self lol persephone - that would be amazing... are you being sarcastic or serious LOL wouldnt know the first thing about how to teach that!!
-
had never seen them before Kavik - thank you i will order one and see if he likes it. i will also look into the lure and racing, hopefully we have one near by!

Hi everyone, just wondering if there are any other alternative sports to earth dog? ( we are 3 hours away from any clubs) I have a 2 year old JRT who, like his breed should be - is obsessed with hunting. He feels the need to catch anything, mice, rats, possums, feral pigs ANYTHING!( he has been bitten twice by snakes and last week was bailed up by a pig) When we first got him as an 8 week old pup we lived on land and my husband took him ratting a lot of the time so this encouraged his already terrier nature. Now due to unforeseen circumstances we have had to move into town and we only go out to the property maybe once a fortnight. He is so keen to be as a terrier is and work / hunt that he will stay up all night whining at the window for the spot that he saw a possum a week ago. I am trying to use distractions to refocus his attention so he doesn't concentrate on it as much but it doesn't seem to be working as he is just so focused on what he has seen or smelled. Should we be doing a sport like earth dog or will this only encourage his instincts? Up until we moved we did regular obedience and had just started agility training, I am in the process of finding another agility club to start in again as well as attending another obedience class to further our training but was wondering if there are any other things, sports or activities I can do with him that someone could recommend? Does anyone have any tips on refocusing attention? I might add that he is incredibly smart but also incredibly stubborn! Thanks for your time :)
