  1. oh LOL ill re post the corect one haha
  2. Hi So not sure if this has been done ( couldn’t see one) or if it’s in the right place but I thought maybe we could start a thread about competitions. Personally I’m a comp junkie and love entering things on line so I thought why don’t we have a dog/animal competition thread. So if you know of any comps going around at the moment post the link and info! It might be in a magazine, TV show, on line ANYTHING! Just post away so fellow dog lovers can enter Here is mine for the day, nice grand prize, now I just have to find the right pic good luck and keep posting!!! http://www.harveynormanphotos.com.au/petsphotocomp.html
  3. Mason, is that what they were originnaly breed for in south africa?
  4. my other half had one come into his work the other day in a ute he was working on. he is in love! were in canberra and apperently this guy breeds them. i guess when he says he wants a " man dog" rather then a chihauhua thats what he means lol. he sent me pics, ill see if i can find them
  5. from my work with local council this is what i know. if the chip is still in her name, the council should not have accepted the registration to his name without change a of ownership form. i knew of a suituation once where a girl had surrended her dog to the pound. the chip number was scanned and recorded but not checked in the system. turns out the chip was still in her ex's name and he did not know she had surrended the dog. legally, because the chip was in his name still the dog was his..... in saying that they did not have any other registration, just the microchip. i would tell her to call the council they are now registered with and give them the chip number, ask the council to look the chip up on its relavant database. from there she can explain the suituation and also have proof that the dogs are stiil in her name on the microchip...... might not do any good but wish her luck!
  6. so no transfer of owner ship has been done on the chips or he did and just signed her name?
  7. Can i ask how much you ended up paying for him? if not thats fine just tell me to mind my own business lol
  8. You are right. The dog can not be registered with the ANKC as a purebred labrador. It can be desexed and registered on the 'associate' register which allows the dog to compete in performance events, but the dog will not be able to compete in conformation shows or be bred. fantastic thanks guys oh and it really isnt me... i just ordered my pup LOL Ok - so what are the dogs 'lines'? Without a registered pedigree this is completely unknown, can never be guaranteed and can't be verified. And those lines may quite likely be in the genepool anyway through the dogs registered ancestors and better quality registered progeny of those ancestors. Really, the dog is not going to contribute much other than a whole heap of unknowns, and when you consider that the dog is more than likely the product of a dog or dogs which were considered not suitable for breeding for some reason or another, then why would you want to introduce that BACK into the genepool? If 'Joe Bloggs' wants to get involved in showing or breeding, they should use that dog as an opportunity to learn about the breed by desexing it, perhaps competing with it in conformation events, learning as much about the breed as they can from it (including what not to do and what you dont want in the breed) and then look at getting a pup from a registered breeder where they go into the arrangement up front about the fact they are interested in showing and breeding. That way the breeder has the opportunity to mentor them and help them choose a dog (to be registered on the main register with a verifiable pedigree) that will be suitable for that purpose.
  9. oh, and there really isnt a " jo blogs" i was just trying to get across what i meant LOL
  10. Ok so before I start I wanted to point out that I in no way agree with back yard breeders or randoms having un de-sexed dogs which lead to unplanned litters but I do have a question. I’m trying to word what I want to say correctly so sorry if it sounds weird but I know what I mean in my head haha. Let’s say that mr back yard breeder advertises in the paper lab puppies for sale. …. Jo blog buys one. These pups are not registered with anyone other than mr BYB’s local council but Jo blogs feel like he might to do a bit of showing or breeding in the future and he wants to do it in the right way by getting his new lab registered with papers. Is there any way for him to do this? ( I’m fairly sure you cant) If so , how? And if not how come? I’m all about keeping the lines pure and health scores and all that stuff but I was just wondering about introducing new “ blood and lines” into the picture other than Overseas imports. Or is that the only way breeders do it? The reason I’m asking is for my own knowledge and I do have a lot of people ask me this when I tell them I would like to get into showing and when they ask me why I’m angry at them for not de-sexing there 4year old kelpie x that has had 2 litters. Grrrrr! Thanks everyone!

  20. Hi everyone I’m a newbie to the show world but not to dogs. I have worked in the dog industry for over 15 years and am now thinking about possibly showing. I have a few friends who are involved in the show circuit so hopefully I can learn from them. A few questions I did have though – as I said please excuse my ignorance but I do not know a lot about the show world. What are my chances of having a breeder sell me a female pup? I want to show so I’m aware that she will have to remain un desexed, does this cost me extra and do I need to sign a contract? There is the possibility that I would want to breed down the track, not because I want puppies and to sell pups but because I would love be part of the improvement of the particular breed we choose and I have a keen interest in genetics, bloodlines etc. as a first time shower will I have troubles getting a breeder to sell me a female pup with the knowledge that I may want to breed in the future? I have lots more questions but will leave it at that! Thanks all for your time oh sorry if this is in the wrong place
