    Boxer

Hello boxmeupboxer - how's the wayward doggie been going? Have been thinking about you and just found this thread again. Patience is a great reward but sometimes it just seems to go on and on and on and on........ Sincerest wishes for a quick calm dog.
  3. Thanks heaps for this advice. It would have prob swayed our decision earlier on but at least we now have another option if we see a suitable 'rescue' etc interstate. Glad to see that I wasnt the only one also given a ridiculous quote online, maybe a glitch in their system.I had heard great feedback from both companies so I thought it was only the 'well heeled' that flew their pets around. I just wanted to give a home to one which was too far away for us to drive to collect. Now we can broaden our looking a bit more. Many thanks....
  4. They both sound reasonable quotes. I asked for a quote from both Dogtainer (sp) and Jetpets for a dog to go from NSW to VIC,and we were quoted aprox $500 by one and $800 from the other company. I was staggered at this cost. It was going from Orange Airport which is a small rural airport to Tullamarine. All crates etc were to be supplied by the carrier and we were just going to pick up dog from Tullamarine. The timing wasnt right and we didnt go ahead with the dog but the cost of this put us off looking at interstate purchases. Maybe when we are ready we can again look at this but can only think that due to the small airport is why the cost was so high? On a couple of welfare sites I have seen the request for business people to advise that they are willing to allow a rescue dog be transported as their own to save costs if they can arrange for the animal to be on the same flight. Can anyone confirm that this is correct as surely it would be a great help. Many thanks.
  5. [i know someone whom takes pics for aliving - I will ask her just in case...
  6. We are no spring chickens but still have our boxer. One sadly passed a few weeks ago but we will purchase another when $ allow. We also have two rescues,a maltese and a papillon. All girls and get on together wonderfully. The papillon is a great lapdog but also can go outside and play with the big dogs as she has so much energy and can switch on and off. Also a wonderful watchdog and super with the grandchildren. Our maltese is the gentlest dog I have ever owned and is an absolute delight although a touch deaf and cataracts appearing (she is 8). I couldnt imagine life without a boxer, suppose its what you are used to,and yes, getting a hefty lump off your recliner chair is sometimes near impossible but they are such part of our lives they will be here forever.I'm a bit challenged with a couple of spinal issues but the dogs do not cause any probs for me,they just look and ignore!!
  7. We have a Papillon, a Maltese and up to a few weeks ago, two gorgeous Boxers. Sadly one passed but we have been very lucky and have never had a problem with the Boxers accepting or playing with other visiting dogs. My daughter came to stay with us for a while and bought her three dogs with her,a Great Dane/Lab cross,a Cavalier and a foxie/cattle dog cross. All seven have been friends on and off for years (with the cats)and as long as feeding times were supervised there was never any problems. My mum now has a little maltese rescue and he comes once a month and stays for the weekend with mum and he just basically ignores the boxers but tries to play with our two littles. I agree groundrules need to be in place and the home based dogs shouldnt have to be put into situations that are out of the norm for them. When our neighbour drops in for a visit, he normally has two or three dogs in tow with him and they all in sniffing each :cheer:other and then just slink away to investigate the new smells in our place. Only once was there a problem and that was a Jack Russell growling at our Papillon, then out of nowwhere sprang the most meek and mild little maltese you could ever imagine and she jumped on top of the Jack Russell and put him in his place quickly and told him to leave her friend alone. Was so funny we nicknamed her 'murderous Molly'. She is the quietest dog we own and was so funny to see her leap to her friends defence. I guess we must have been the lucky ones but If the humans are calm themselves the dogs normally follow suit. Good luck on whatever decision you make.
  8. At night time when all quiet and dozy around the fire. They take turns in 'asking' to come sit on us and then start their individual games when we pretend not to hear them. They are too much for me but my husband gives in every night!!
  9. My 9yo boxer just had her second injection of Cartrophen today. She has stiffness in her hindlegs when attempting to get on the lounge and chairs :D .Other than this she is faring quite well for her age except that she has just lost her best friend. Will be interesting and hopeful to see how she responds to this.
  10. I'll change the heading and hopefully it will attract some attention that will result in a success story similar to what this thread has achieved for me. I want to say a big thanks to everyone for their responses and help. Perfect Partners - thanks! My friend who visited you today swung by over this way and Mandela has already had a good time enjoying ball chase and fetch. He particularly enjoyed experiencing the "wheeze" sound the ball makes. Anthropomorphically speaking, his expression was almost as though saying "yay!! it works again!!!". Mind you, not good if you're hell bent on teaching your dog not to mouth in fetch, but hey, for all his health issues I've relented on some other minor matters, lol. Sally - have sent you an email. Thanks again all. It's great to have a place to go where you can put the word out on things and get some helpful responses and assistance . Cheers Erny
  11. Thank you everyone for your warm welcomes. The first dog is a papillon that we bought from Animal Welfare in NSW about 6 years ago. I think they might be 99% Papillon and 1% whoknows! She is a gorgeous girl though. I have put some pics in the Boxer thread but need to resize some of our home pics as they are too big to post here. Will keep playing around and reading this forum. Will take me ages though and a break from horses too!!
  12. If a thread could be opened up for 'searching for favourite toys' or something similar, I would be very grateful. Thank you again
  13. Treacle - I love English Treacle Toffee, great name for a brindle
  14. Am new here but thought I would post some pics of our lovely girls. We lost one of our beloved boxers a fortnight ago and she will forever be in our hearts.
  15. Finally retrieved 'Bone' from under the bed. I'll try to post my first pic here(fingers crossed). Not much of a computer wizard. If anyone can remember seeing one of these anywhere,I would be extremely grateful. I has split in a couple of places and am terrified she might swallow a piece but she gets anxious when I hide it from her. Have tried similar sized bones etc but she always knows the difference, cheeky girl.
  16. How great to see these responses. I have been looking for about 12 months now for a replacement toy for my papillon. If she drags it out from under the bed tonight I will try and get a picture of it. Willing to basically pay anything for replacement cost etc as its really her best friend. Its a dark brown 'bone' about 8" in length and has yellow writing with the word "BONE" going around the middle of it where its narrower. I cant find any makers identification on it unfortunately and it has started to split from being carried around everyday 24/7. Thanks in advance and will hopefully try and get a pic of of when it emerges.
