I agree with others that a Black Labrador would be well suited.Have you done any dog breed selector quizes to also give you some ideas. http://www.k9country...erl/dogBreed.pl

I read the thread again. It's a double blow when children are distraught.Tell the little boy that the angels are looking after Sarge. So sorry your family are going through this. .

These scum would not get dogs through adverts because they don't want anyone to identify them .They wouldn't part with money to get a dog when they can steal them. Poor Tank may have died from the stress of being taken .We may never know.An Autopsy result won't bring him back.RIP dear Tank.

A German shorthair[or wirehaired] Pointer.

-
OMG,Did i read the facebook link right;Dogs have been stolen from a pound !.
-
How awful; What a dodgy council; what are they waiting for ,a child to be killed.Condolences to your daughter, poor Sarge.

The information is out there.Dogs are microchipped and registered and details are at Vets. How many people have access to that information. It would take weeks to look in every yard in a suburb. How they can swoop in an area and take all similar breeds in a short time has me wondering.
-
I wish more could be done to hunt down these scum.Someone must know something.Perhaps a reward for information. How do these thieves know what dogs of a particular breed are in what yard where.??
-
Also look at the Miniature Schnauzer, they come in black.
-
A Great Dane.?..Not sure what their activity level is like though.
-
An irish Wolfhound may also suit you. Consider a rescue dog. Victorian dog rescue have a few Wolfhound and large breed crosses . http://www.petrescue....au/view/164416
-
I agree with what the others have said.Consider a Rottweiler , Rhodesian Ridgeback or Irish Wolfhound.
-
Also consider at the Smooth Collie.

The problem with crossing breeds is firstly you do not know the background of the dogs.A dog may look like a labrador or a collie but not being pure bred it may have any number of other breeds in it's more distant ancestry. This will impact on the overall temperament of the dog because behaviour traits can be passed down not just from the parent dogs ,but also from generations further back.Temperament does not split 50/50.Each time you cross you create more possibilities with regard to temperament. You could end up with a dog that looks like a Labradore but has a temperament that is nothing like one

Are you able to get some second hand fencing materials from somewhere like freecycle or ask friends relo's and neighbours if they could help you put something up. Also if you could get cuttings of fast growing dense shrubs to block that part of the fence and it would keep your dog from getting close to the fence . The poor pup must be bored witless,i would report them for hitting the dog.

Ha ha. But surely, it also accurately demonstrates the frustration you can often feel towards other members of the "internet" :p Sometimes my 4 year old granddaughter wants to sit on my lap when i'm on the forum to look at dog and puppy pictures .I will have to check what avatars are on the screen first from now on.
-
Yes ,I also find the avatar disturbing.
