The poor dog ;you must be very worried I have heard good things about the Melbourne Veterinary Specialist Centre in Blackburn Road -Glen Waverley. You will need a referral from your vet to go there.I hope you can find the cause and he recovers.

My Pippa dog did the lean.I think it's another way for them to feel close to you when they are too big to climb on your lap.She also did the terrier head butt;not sure what thats about,i've heard different opinions on that one.

I agree some of the topics don't sit well in General and would probably be ok in off topic.I think there is a reluctance to start a dog related thread in off topic even when the main content is more suited to off topic.Either have these threads in off topic or ban the subject matter and delete them when they appear. As for long time users not making a contribution. What is meant by this ? A lot of users are here to learn and may not have the knowledge to be able to contribute much to others but i'm sure they will do if and when they can.

The Mastiff club of Victoria do rescue, maybe they could help.. -
If she gets an intervention order the police will knock on thier door and read through the order and they will sign it and be obliged to do as it says by law.Put on the order that they must not make false reports to council. If they do make a complaint to council they then have to prove the claims or they could be in breach of the order. Then you call the council and explain what has happened and that you have an intervention order in place. efs

Set up a camera .Is there somewhere the dogs could go for a while untill she decides what to do.I can understand she wants to stay in her own home but i think these people will not let up and she shouldn't have to have this worry.I'm surprised the police did not at least speak to them about making threats to her dogs safety.Perhaps it may be an idea to get an intervention order on the neighbours to stop them putting thier hands and head over the fence and knocking on the door with threats.

Thank goodness. They had a very sick budgie there once and i told the staff. They had no idea untill i told them the bird was suffering. They also didn't know which birds were male or female.Hope all pet stores will stop selling animals and birds.

When Adopting A Rescue Dog...
Purdie replied to Ruin Maniac's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
First step is to get a letter from your landlord / agent saying you are able to have a dog .Some ,not all, shelters and rescue groups are reluctant to adopt to renters. As it's your first dog I would start with your closest areas first so you can visit the dog more than once before you decide.Put together a list of what you want in a dog. Contact rescue groups and visit shelters to see if they have a suitable dog or ask them to contact you if one comes up .Check rescue / shelter sites and pet rescue daily as new dogs come up all the time .Also consider an older pup or dog from a breeder. http://www.dogzonline.com.au/breeds/puppies/schnauzer.asp -

Would you consider fostering dogs through rescue for a time. This will give you experience and help you decide what qualities you like in a dog as well as helping a dog find a great home And breeders would see you are responsible and commited when you come to get a pup later....There are probably quite a few breeds that would suit you.It is hard to decide as there are so many wonderful breeds to choose from. As i'm a quiz fanatic i would be interested to know what were the 100% matches on the k9 one. -
Sorry for the loss of your Cat Michael. When we lost our dog i felt her still around for a long time and swear i heard her little noises that she made and the door would rattle like when she knocked to come in and i would have to go and check even though i new she was gone.It will take time but as the weeks go by it will get a little easier for both of you. Perhaps when you feel ready you could get a cat from rescue or shelter that likes dogs.

There were some months back 2 litters of the same breed at 2 local pet stores in my area. When i enquired if they did have pedigree papers as stated on their enclosure i was told they were from a registered breeder and they would need to give me their contact details if i wanted to purchase one of the pups.

The gentle hand holding must be a wolfhound thing. My Wolfhound cross Pippa would do this with some people. She would greet visitors at the gate and escort them to the front door and keep an eye on them when i opened the door.My Hubbys father was visiting a house once and was met by a large Wolfhound who took him gently by the arm and led him to the door.He was most impressed with the dog and often told the story of the day he met a Wolfhound.

If you like going in the bush i would recommend a breed without a very heavy coat. Go a short to medium coat that can be clipped or stripped for summer and kept a bit longer in a Melbourne winter. A moderately active breed for a first time owner, that can also relax with you indoors when you are studying.A medium size would be good. If you like the scruffy Terriers -like i do- have a look at the Irish Terrier. What ever breed you decide on spend time with them and research the breed and talk to owners . Here is a dog breed quiz that may be helpful . http://www.k9country...erl/dogBreed.pl -
No one owns a dog to suit others gratification, nor would they need to pts to please others. It's about the dog and the owners resposibility to the dog. They have to decide if they can give a disabled dog a good quality of life or find someone willing and able to do so.If not or the animal is suffering in any way then they should pts ,hard as it is.

Thats wonderful yellow girl.So much can be achieved when people work together .... -
It's one thing if a dog goes blind later in life they may do fine and i think deaf pups are able to manage and can live a good life. But blind from birth, i would opt to pts. That's my opinion ;others may not agree.
