''shouldn't own a dog like that'' I've heard that before.Out walking my Bully x when a man with a big black dog comes around the corner. His dog starts barking and lungeing and nearly pulls the guy over.I take my dog onto the grass and turn her away from the dog .Man stands there with dog still barking untill my dog gets fed up and wants to bark back i hold her and keep her away. The man makes no attempt to correct his still lungeing dog.Instead he abuses me for ''having a dog like that''.

Dog Wanted- Male Working Breed Mix Vic
Purdie replied to Cosmolo's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
I was going to mention Steve the kelpie x ...Also Save a dog have a few young kelpie crosses 5&6 month olds.Blue Cross animals have a male Kelpie x 2.5 yr old. -
As well as another Amstaff also look at... Australian Cattle dog ...Labrador.... GS pointer.....Bull Terrier ,a dark colour one Their light skin pigment needs sun protection. If you enjoy lots of training i would say a Weimaraner or Vizsla but not sure how they are with heat tolerance.

Sorry you lost your girl.Yes another dog can make you happy. You may at first compare the new dog with the first one but keep in mind they are individuals and even another Amstaff will not behave the same ,although there will be some similarities from being the same breed.Look first at what qualities you want in a dog and which breeds suit your lifestyle then research breeds that fit what you are after. Tell us what are you looking for in What size , how much grooming, how much exercise you can give the dog, what activities you want to do together, what size yard you have, any dog allergies in the family ,how much shedding you can manage, have you had other breeds before ,What breeds do you like etc .

Can you call the pound and tell them you are bringing him in later. The owner may turn up at the pound today or call them to see if he is there. I hope he finds his owner and gets back home. -
Pustule: this is a small inflamed are that is filled with puss such as a pimple. This type of dog skin disorder could indicate an infection (bacterial or fungal) or auto-immune problem (when the body responds to a substance that it shouldn't respond to). Does this look like it.

A Question For The Rescue People

A Question For The Rescue People
Purdie replied to a topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
There are pups that spend months in a pet shop.I emailed a rescue group for advise about a notorious Pet Store where some did spend months behind glass. The rescue group posted my email on DOL a few years back before i was a member here.I came accross my email on line and thats how i first found DOL. The dogs were a kelpie x Border collie.7 months old ; a Mastiff x Ridgeback 5months old and 3- 15 week old Weimaraner x pups.Staff showed me the book where it showed they had been there since about 8 weeks old.All showed behaviour problems due to their long confinement. I reported them to .The RSPCA who could do little as they had food shelter and water.I found the whole thing very distressing.I could not and do not understand how this can be allowed. If i had a dog and put it in a cage and left it there night and day i'm sure the RSPCA would prosecute me for animal cruelty yet for some reason it's considered normal for animals to be kept this way in Pet Stores. As for giving them to a shelter..;You mean when their not sold even when their ''''Marked down to clear '''They would be lucky to make it to a shelter and luckier if they could be rehabilitated enough to find a home. -
A Question For The Rescue People
Purdie replied to a topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Animals should not be in pet shops to begin with and keeping some on display for months is to me nothing short of animal cruelty.I've seen some as old as 7 months still living in a pet shop glass box and i saw the results in their behaviour. It's not the animals fault it's there so what do you do just leave them there for 6 months or more untill they are so mentaly disturbed that they cannot live a normal life and are PTS? Why punish the innocent animals who deserve a decent home as much as any.Instead of getting outraged that someone took a dog out of hell and gave it a decent home ,campaign instead for animals to not be sold in pet shops. -
Take pictures of your garden and any plants your not sure of then go to a large plant nursery and ask .They should be able to tell you what most of the plants are and advise you which ones may be a problem.

Meeting A Breeder - Are There Certain Customs Involved?
Purdie replied to Ruin Maniac's topic in General Dog Discussion
Go along and meet the Adults. All puppies are cute so you need to be sure you like the adults of the breed .Just relax be yourself and ask whatever questions come to mind. -
Would the McDonalds next door have security cameras that show any area of the Vet clinic.?

Choosing A Dog To Go With Golden Retreiver
Purdie replied to thomo84's topic in General Dog Discussion
If you like Beagles look at some in foster care . Then you can know their temperament and see if they get along with your golden. Some are not so much escape artists if they have company of another dog or humans. My Beagle would only try to escape when i went out and she was on her own . Beagles need company and don't do well left alone for long periods. She would not jump a fence but could dig huge holes under the fence to try to escape. Have a secure run with concrete floor for the Beagle when you are not home Two walks a day and another dog around and plenty of human attention would be fine for most Beagles. -
Are there any other sites where rescue groups can list the animals untill PR can get sorted.Very sad this is slowing up the adoption process.

The ultimate encyclopedia of dogs................... But i can't do pictures....

I would put a caged sleeping area in the sunroom with access out a sunroom window to an enclosure for the cat so the dogs can come in and out a dog door to also sleep in thier own part of the the sunroom .
-
Do you have a window that can be converted to a door and attach a covered area off there.Or is there a laundry door that can lead out to an area for the cat and take the laundry out another door.A plan of the house layout might give us some ideas. And congratulations on the new house .

I have owned a BT and a BT cross. No way they were ever off lead in public. They were friendly with other dogs but if another dog wanted to start something they were capable of finishing it so were never given the chance.I had to learn to read other dogs when out walking and would avoid most of them. They had play time with dogs they were introduced to and new in a fenced yard.I'm wary of any off lead dog that i don't know.Perhaps some would think i'm overly cautious.
-
Because Pet expos and Pet shops have different purposes. Why would pet shops try and talk you into buying a registered purebred when they have a window full of BYB mutts they are trying to sell? Many breed clubs have Puppy Officers who have details of litters currently available. It was just an idea;wouldn't it be nice if pet stores stopped selling animals and worked with breeders and rescue groups to promote responsible pet ownership. Some recues are already setting up adoption centres in pet stores. Why can't breed clubs advertise or have information available through pet stores [ the ones that don't sell animals] The store could charge a price for an information pack about pure breed dogs or one about rescueing a dog and foster care. Many people are reluctant to contact a breed club because they know nothing about pure breed dogs, clubs or Puppy Officers.Armed with information they would be more confidant in approaching breeders.
-
I can go to a pet expo and get information about where to get a pure breed dog but can't get the same info from a pet shop.I guess thats funny too...
-
I would like to see information on where to get a dog in pet stores.Replace the glass boxes with an information desk where you can get advise on what breed of dog may suit you and where you can buy one from ; given lists of breeders ,breed clubs, rescue groups, and shelters. Also basic information about how to care for a dog and where to find a puppy school, vet, dog training.A one stop area for all the information you need to find a pet and care for them.
