  1. What about a Cocker spaniel; There are a few in care in Victoria. http://www.petrescue...listings/247495
  2. Ditto..Very sorry RIP Smudge. He had a wonderful life with you and will be waiting in heaven to see you again one day.
  3. Like these? It's just how the colour looks on a newborn pup. You can only get merles if at least one of the parents is one. Ah thanks ;I was googling for ages trying to find the answer.
  4. Another mystery for you.I saw a litter of Labrador pups that had unusual markings maybe merle but I'm not sure if that's what it's called. The background was almost white with gold swerling pattern with ears head and tails deep gold. I wondered if this patterning occurs in pedigree Lab pups and if so would the colour change once they were adults.?

  6. Thanks OsoSwift;I already have Whippets on my short list thanks to HW in a past thread. I like the solid colours .My father had a Whippet as a child and often said what a wonderful dog he was..
  7. I found out recently from my neurologist why i am allergic to dogs when i wasn't before.I have become sensitive to smells that can trigger a migraine. Many everyday odors can give me an instant headache and nausea .Strong doggy odor will trigger a headache almost instantly or can take a few hours of exposure before i get a reaction. So i guess i will have to find a breed with low / little odor;that would be more important to me than shedding;however i would prefer less shedding but would manage some moderate shedding for a suitable dog that i could live with without a reaction. My last dog shed but the hair stayed mostly in her coat and i could brush it out and would only find a few hairs in the house if at all. I read the other day that the Smooth Collie does not have a strong doggy odor !... Is this so ?? ..If it is then i will put Collies on my to look at breeds list..
  8. Might help to let the dogs meet on lead outside their homes and if all goes well walks together.Once introduced they may not bother about each other so much. Long term you could plant a tall thick hedge or row of large potted plants along the fence line with a barrier behind it to stop the dog scratching at the fence.
  9. Do you have friends with a dog who can go into the bush area with you ?A dog will be able to sniff out things that you can't see yourself.Sending prayers that the little one is found...
  10. Sorry to hear this. Can you do a door knock of the surrounding streets and ask people to check their yards and sheds .Sometimes people will find a dog and just hang onto them particulaly if children say can we keep him etc.A neighbour of mine had her dog taken home by some kids and the parents let them keep it.She saw the dog a few streets away playing with the kids in their yard when she was out walking some weeks later.Luckily the dog was microchiped and she was able to prove to police she owned the dog and got him back.Keeping fingers crossed for you.
  11. A mix of Pointers Greyhound and Bully breeds . RIP little boy...
  12. He sounds like a wonderful dog.If he slept all day he would be keeping you awake at night. It's good that he can look out the window and watch the world ; You are doing a great job raising your dog.
  13. While you are waiting for someone to come and see you and your dog ;he sounds a bit bored and wants to play.Does he like to fetch a ball ? Give him toys and teach him to fetch them.Never play rough games like tug .Walk him every day and most important of all is to establish a routine.Dogs thrive on routine where they know there are set times -where possible- for play eating training and walking.Use signals with him like clap your hands and and say his name out for up and move go out etc .Teach him "enough'' when play ends or it's time to stop and quiet time.A trainer will be able to give you ideas to keep him occupied. Also make sure he has plenty of times for socialization with other people dogs.Keep him on lead in public .. good luck.
  14. Take it to the Vet.I'm sure they will know how to help.
  15. Purdie, I came across exactly the same kind of youngish (wasn't yet 3 yrs) Amstaff. Same description... had a tallish, more slender look. That, with his gorgeous colouring, made him one of the handsomest dogs I've seen recently. I had to ask the owner his breed.... because I didn't instantly pick Amstaff at all. He said he was a purebred. Apart from the amazing good looks... this Amstaff also had a beautiful nature & was so well trained and managed. I wonder if they are siblings. The one i met was black with white chest and socks. ** .Runs off to look at the breed pages yet again........**
