I notice that you list all those vets as specialists. Are you aware that there are only 3 American Veterinary Board certified Canine Reproduction Specialists in Australia. Phil Thomas in Qld, Stuart Mason in Victoria and there is a new one at the Vet School at Gatton

I think I know the one. If so yes very active in show circles, 'top' breeders, big winners, judges even if I'm not mistaken, but big failure at boarding from every one I've ever talked to that have used them and a person I knew went for a job interview and walked out! I'm sure there are great dog people running great facilities but there are some that seem to rely heavily on 'reputation' they don't match with service Sounds like the one - i boarded Wilbur with them once; never again. Rats ate through the food container i gave them, he was a filthy mess when he came out. The dogs were all just left in a large dust bowl of a yard all day long and as we left they made a snarky comment about Wilbur. I think you may have us confused with some other kennel. We do not and have never had rats, all dogs are bathed and clean before they leave, and dogs do not spend the day in a dust bowl. As far as somebody walking out on a job interview, I have never heard of that either. Anybody is welcome to come and inspect our premises anytime during office hours. I have also just checked our computer records and we have never had a dog or cat called Wilbur board with us.

If you are feeding a good quality balanced diet why would you want to add anything to it ?

I'd also never buy a pup from someone who tells you that every pup in the litter is show quality. It does happen but not often. Take the pup an experienced breeder/exhibitor tells you is the one. Personally I'd not go lower than second pick dog or bitch. I don't agree with not buying lower than second pick. It is a very broad statement to make. 3rd or 4th pick in a litter of great quality is better than 1st pick in a very ordinary litter

Frozen Semen Who Has Had Success & Using Who?
ahmadi replied to Possumeyes's topic in Breeders Community
I agree with a couple on others on here that Phil Thomas at QLD Vet Specialists is the one to use. I have used him several times for frozen semen and fresh semen AI's and had success every time. He is also the person that taught many others how to do semen work. He may be more expensive than others in and around Brisbane, but he is by far the best and you get what you pay for. Ian -

I class every litter as a loss of money to breed what i need for the next generation. I dont even consider the thought of even breaking even. I look at the cost of the semen and the insemination and the raising of the litter as the cost of getting what i need for myself Ian

I agree, contact Cryogenes in Melbourne they make it so easy. I am using them at the moment to bring semen in from America and they have done everything. The first time I imported semen I did it all myself and never again. This is the second time I have used crogenes Ian

Hi All, Check our facebook page for details, or contact the club. Training is on Wednesday nights and is $3.00 per dog and to attend you need to become a member (which is $5.00 for the year) which covers our public liability etc while training. Thanks, Nadia Attridge If show training is being held by a club wouldnt it be covered by the Dogs Qld Insurance ? I have never heard of clubs taking out their own insurance before Regards Ian

I have to agree that this is a very informative accurate response to the person that would like to become a judge. As people have said, that breeding and titling dogs does teach you how to evaluate dogs. My motto is to judge a judge by the quality of their own dogs, and even better if they have consistanly bred good dogs. Also with your term bowling ball fronts on Dobermanns, I can not recall when i last judged a Dobermann in Australia with a front that I would describe as that ( and it is a new term I havent heard before). Also if you are going to comment on what is required in a breed, please get your wording correct. The Dobermann standard ( I assume you have read and understood it) says " Forechest well developed." I am not saying that well developed means overdone, but it is the wording that judges must judge by Regards Ian

I have recently visited a friend overseas that was given a large quantity to try with his dogs. After less than a week he gave it all away and went back to his old food. He was very unimpressed with what was coming out of his dogs and that is the main reason he stopped using it Ian

I can also help if anybody needs a lift to the meeting to support Dogs Qld on this important night. I know that I want the future of our hobby determined by dog breeders and exhibitors and not the RNA Regards Ian
