  1. love to know where that butcher is kazads.... woolworths is a bit expensive really
  2. I thought I read somewhere that turkey is a low allergen meat and therefore good for dogs with allergies. I make raw patties with turkey mince for my girl, she also loves turkey wings.
  3. Oh that's one cute pup, I love Aussies in that colour
  4. I just saw this on the Daily Telegraph.... Poor little thing that would have hurt big time, i know what sound comes out of my lab when she gets a toe caught in a bench so i can only imagine what noise poor Gidgit made.
  5. Yeah my lab has the largest size I think it's extra large
  6. Congrats on your new baby lab I have no advice on food as my lab pup didn't agree with kibble so she's fed raw now but make sure you pop over to the breed sub forums and those crazy Labradors, would love to see pictures of your pup
  7. I've only ever seen mucus like that when the runs are also involved and obviously the system is irritated.
  8. Only 34 here in central west and my lab has been sitting on the a/c vent all day. Good thing you did stay home labador I can't imagine 46 yuck.
  9. That would have been a nightmare, one dog with it was more than enough for me to handle
  10. Odd that they don't test for giardia - I think they don't have the lab facility to do so. It's a small vet practice with two consulting rooms and one surgery room... Any other vets around that you could go to....
  11. Hi Tara thanks for your reply. No tank water for sure but I can't be 100 percent sure about the bird droppings. Giardia is at the back of my mind too, will remember to ask the vet who is calling me back later. His poo is no longer yellow though, but other than that the symptoms do sound similar. Another thing is he just came off antibiotics and is wormed once a monthsp with interceptor- would that have killed it by now? Thanks for the tip on slippery elm. I have been searching high and low in Singapore for it. An alternative I am considering Pet Alive Digestive Support, which lists slippery elm as an ingredient. Umm not sure about the interceptor, my girl had panacur i think it was called and peptosyl and something else i cant remember now but it took a while, i dont think normal wormers do anything for giardia. Worth asking your vet. Hope he feels better soon, i know how miserable it can make them.
  12. BC Crazy i think it would be interesting if people had posted pictures of the condition there dogs ended up in.... then everyone could really see the similarities and join the dots. And yes this is a forum to share experiences, before i started my girl on BH i hadnt read anything bad about it, honestly i only heard good reports. But the more you talked to people the more it all started to add up. I have heard people say either your dog will look great on BH or it will go really bad, unfortuantly like BC Crazy i also got the really bad and it has taken now 6 months and my girls back to normal. I felt sorry for her cause she was misserable scratching biting at herself she could barely sleep some nights cause she just couldnt stop, and i felt bad knowing what people were thinking when they looked at her dull dry discoloured balding coat.
  13. Ann does he or has he eaten any bird droppings or drink tank water, the reason i ask is it could be giardia. It smells awful, causes yellow runny stools and lots of mucus, it doesnt get any better no matter what you feed and can really irritate the intestinal walls which would account for the mucus. Has your vet done a fecal float? or tested his stools? Also slippery elm powder has been a great help for my girl when she gets the runs, she didnt need much and it was back to normal.
  14. Maybe Giardia i would think as well, also have you tried a RAW diet? Maybe he has intollerance to kibble, i know my girl had stomach upsets frequently and now since i removed kibbler shes been much much better.
  15. My dogs eat anything and everything and BH was my first foray into a higher quality and higher priced food. And it was based on hearing nothing but good about the food. So when I started seeing problems in my dogs I didn't even think of the food and scrambled around looking for answers. But when I raised it on here I found many others with similar experiences, and a blanket ignore from the company. Which is fine. But when the food is touted as the be-all and and-all of Australian made dog foods, and anyone who raises an issue (which seems to be quite a number) is poo-poo'ed on the basis of "they're a great company and give to charity" sort of information, it doesn't help resolve people's queries, and the health problems of their animals. I'm sorry, but the problems seem widespread yet ignored, with no info on what may cause the issue or what recipe changes may be in the future to alleviate the problems. This is how the product's otherwise good name will continue to be questioned. Those questions go unanswered so increasingly customers go elsewhere. My dogs grew their coat (and skin!) back on a diet of far cheaper (not gluten or allergen free!!) food. The kibble they now eat is still Australian made and doesn't make them sick. Although it is little known and not hyped as the best thing since sliced bread. So the guilt trips about how awesome the company is, or how unwell the proprietor may be won't sway me to spend another cent on BH. Sorry, I wish well for the business. But their PR seems seriously lacking. Very very well said and i completely agree.
  16. Interesting comment that i have wondered about also.... Yep I find that a very interesting question as well - as it was for yeasty ears in my very old boy westie and for severe itchies in my girl that I decided to give away over ten kgs of BH! Same very big donation to Assistance Dogs.
  17. Interesting comment that i have wondered about also....
  18. I'll back you up there BC Crazy :) It has taken me ages to get Abbey's coat back to normal after being on BH. It did deffinately not agree with her and i would never go near BH again.
  19. That's good news for Sam Lisa, glad you found something that works for him. Getting food right came be so frustrating.
  20. Thiamine, Protein, Vitamin A, Pantothenic Acid, Riboflavin, Niacin, Vitamin B6, Folate, Vitamin B12, Iron, Phosphorus, Zinc, Copper and Selenium lots of good things :) I haven't added any organs to Abbeys raw meals, what would be the best to see if she will eat them? My last lab wouldn't eat organs I'd go down to her heard of a morning to let her out and there wouldn't be shriveled up kidneys ewww and if a labs picky welll.....
  21. What does the organs add to their food?
  22. Yeah I don't blame you aussie3 my last girl was so petrified of fireworks and storms it was so sad she had to be medicated every time but if you didn't medicate before she got worked up you couldn't get her to take them. I wish the thunder shirt was available then to see if it worked on her. My new pup just slept last night she was curious what was going on but ended up just going to sleep, it's really hard for me to still not get worked up, as soon as I hear the fireworks I instantly feel as bad as I used to feel seeing Sheba getting worked up. I hate new years for this reason.
