Kuda and I have decided we would like to enter our first Agility Trial (well it is Jumpers, not Agility) but I am not sure what else I have to do!? I have registered with CCCQ and Kuda is now on the Associate Register. I have filled out the Show/Trial form, but what do i put for height? who measures her? I am pretty sure from what i have been told we will be jumping 400. Do i just put that? How does it work? Is there anyone else I need to register with/pay money to? We are super excited! I hope we have trained enough for all the wonderful distractions!

It was a lot more fun than i expected! i loved the more advanced one with the jump! definitely something we will work towards being able to compete in!

from personal experience i would start with a wobble board...get them used to that kind of motion for a while!

I have a fiance, no kids, but still feel closer to one of my dogs. she is, as you say, my heart dog. when i moved to brissy i had to leave her behind for 3 weeks until we found a house, and i felt sick, depressed and i cried the whole time!! I have another dog, and i love him, but dont share the same connection as with my little girl! i cant imagine i would ever feel the same way about another dog OR human! in my case, i just think it is this dog...she has stolen my

AWWW so close yet so far! It is so odd that 2 councils, side by side, can have such different rules! Well i hope Brissy Council learns from MBRC and implements similar, if not the same laws! One can dream!

My guess is you will still need to join an obedience club as you need an assessment. In my council there is a form they fill in, marking off all the required activities (sit, long stay etc) which you send to the council. Recently my council has introduced a life long concession for certain level title in obedience, agility or jumping with either ANKC or ADAA. This is great Hey buddy1, where in QLD is that? I didnt know this existed anywhere, and one night after a few wines my mum an I started on about how great it would be if councils offered subsidised fees for trained dogs! Its a bit disappointing that all councils don't take this approach! I am especially surprised a council like Brisbane council doesn't offer anything like this.

Ash used to set challenges designed to help us learn about our cameras and photography, composition and techniques, as well as pushing us to use our imaginations. that is the most fabulous idea ever! one thing i have struggled with is finding the right settings to get the effect i want! i noticed the fantastic tips at the start of this thread and jotted them down to try definitely going to read through past threads! :D thanks Kirislin!

Good - don't need this breed of dog. It's certaiinly not what one would class a "family" dog. It's a fighting dog. wow! your narrow mindedness and lack of common sense astounds me! please...do us all a favour, and read this article, then tell me why banning them would be any different now? In my opinion, a forum like Dol is exactly the place for something like this to be posted. Dol is a huge, popular forum- in the past 15 minutes, 190 guests have been here- that's 190 people who may have been Googling puppies or considering "rescuing" a puppy from a pet shop. lol HA i decided to google "buying a puppy from a pet store" and this thread came up top of the second page...point taken!

I have to say I also find this perplexing. After a fatal attack and also a serious attack of several other people. I would have though euthanasing the dog would be automatic. i dont think it is being assessed as to whether it will avoid being PTS or not...it will be, they have stated this, but i would imagine it is being assessed to see what triggered/caused the attack, THEN it will be PTS.

Each to their own indeed. I had a gorgeous dog who snapped one day. Picked up a kid in a totally unprovoked situation and swung her around like a ragdoll. What should I have done - keep the dog I loved around for a few weeks to get an assessment done? Nup. totally irrelevant anyway. We dont even know if this is the first attack or not. Too late, though. The dog killed a little child who would still be alive today if the frigging owner had kept it contained. that would have been awful! but the right thing to do IMO. I am trying to prevent it. I guess in a sad way i am lucky that there were some signs to pick up before any such incident. I think in a fatal attack as such, keeping the dog around long enough to be assessed is crucial in trying to understand and therefore prevent further attacks by other dogs.

I was saying what I would do in this situation. Each to their own Raz. I dont know what it would do in this instance!!! For me this is quite personal as i have a girl who has become child reactive, and this awful accident has really made me open my eyes! I happened to book a behaviourist early this week who is coming on saturday. For me the assessment and treatment/plan is something i would rather do before, rather than after something like this. i guess that is a round about way of saying i can see why they would assess it!

You made it clear...why comment further? But while you're at it...what facts? what facts do we really, honestly know for sure? I dont think any of us truly know what they are going through, and i wish no one ever had to go through it again! what do my children have to do with being able to understand it? Next time you berate someone and tell them to look at the facts, make sure there are facts to look at first??

That is really a possibility ( that dogs will be dumped ) but they are probably dogs who are not being cared for in the first place. If it stops another death of a child or person then it is worth it. turkishdelight, i think you will find it is the ones that are cared for and owned legally that will be surrendered, and the illegally, poorly owned ones will go on to give the diminishing breed a worse name Heresay. You have no proof of that. No i dont. But i would sure as hell bet on it!!! What proof do you have that it would be the ones not being cared for that would be dumped? seems like a silly comment!

Yes, my sarcasm. ;) Suggesting that a 3 year old somehow deliberately contributed to a series of circumstances that sees her dead in her front yard or home due to the actions of a dog that was outside its own yard doesn't wash with me. The only "blame" that can be layed here is on the owner of a dog that was prepared to savage three human beings when outside its yard. That kind of dog doesn't come out of nowhere. Yes, victims contribute to these situations. But your hypothesis attempted to shift the responsiblity for the attack away from where it needs to be.. on the dog and the person that owns it. It's that simple. Oh no, i got the sarcasm :p I do apologise, and have removed the comment. Altho i dont think with 3 year olds anything is deliberate. My comments were more directed at the PRO BSL comments. It was a moment of weakness and i have had a moment to cool down, and realise the comment was not helpful. As i said before, there is no excuse, the owner will have to pay the penalty for this crime. Sorry to those i offended.
