  1. When I get home my Frenchie rushes over and lies on her stomach with her legs straight back behind her. She then pushes herself in a backward circle with her front legs, ears pinned back and looking so cute. I ohh and ahh over her and scritch her bum when its in reach and she just laps it up lol. Whilst this is going on Poppy (the terrier) starts with a stretching bow and starts commando crawling toward me. Im sure anyone coming in the door with me would think neither of them have proper use of their legs!
  2. I've been reading quite a bit recently on the benefits of pumpkin (and skin) for hoomans so I guess those same benefits would be seen in dogs. When I juice vegies and fruit I include skin on everything (if its normally eaten) as apparently maximum nutrients are found closest to the skin. Pumpkin and sweet potato feature quite a bit in different recommended juicing recipes. I was reading it's apparently rich in potassium, magnesium and iron and there have been studies which show pumpkin skin has antibacterial benefits and anti-fungal properties. Maybe its the anti fungal side which is helping these dogs stop itching?
  3. Great photos, you're doing an amazing job!
  4. I've learnt I could have been a butcher in another life! I've just spent a small fortune and an hour bagging necks and wing tips, then slicing heart, liver and other meats for dehydrating treats. Unfortunately now that I've watched Hannibal I can't help but picture him humming away as he slices and dices in the kitchen!
  5. I'd better hurry over and watch it then. Dammit, Im at work!
  6. Or a really really long line! It would be extra tough with so many temptations for him too I imagine.
  7. I have a border terrier and have been having heaps of fun with her. She's nine months old and lives with an older Frenchie. She loves every dog and person and is very easy going. I've been doing basic obedience and working on lots of tricks since I got her at 8 weeks. She's calm, smart, loving, cheeky, enthusiastic, funny and so easy to live with. She's happy to walk long or short distances and isn't at all demanding if she doesn't get a walk for a day or two. I'm sure with the right input any dog would be the same though. Good luck with your search!
  8. Welcome Jess. Sounds like you've been putting a lot of work in! What pooches do you own yourself? You know photos are mandatory in DOL don't you? Lol
  9. If it helps someone who may otherwise not have considered training or had access to it, that's great! $100 is pretty reasonable for four sessions too, especially if you can access help in between.
  10. Id say the money bought him great joy
  11. She looks in awesome condition, black dogs are the best for that shiny ripply coat. Love the sooky photo, she looks very cute. I'll never get over the fact they'll jump into cold stinky water but act like it's pure cruelty to have a warm bath or shower!
  12. Thank you for that link. I too have had trouble teaching a hold so that's really useful information.
  13. Ohhhhh that gorgeous face!
  14. This photo is awesome! Everything about it is just so lovely.
  15. I hope he realises how lucky he is! Not every dog gets to experience running full pelt as far as they want in full chase mode. Glad he came back empty handed though :)
  16. Don't forget the work place too lol! Our spare work desk bell has been heaps of fun to muck around with. Poppy is meant to ring it once with a paw tap but she can ring it four times in a row when she tries hard. Cracks me up. VM thank you, we both have so much fun! Well I'd like to think it's 'we' lol
  17. LOL! All she's doing it making it slimy for me to touch. I think half the problem is the bulby bit is a bit large for her so I'll just have to practice the art of patience. I went on an ebay spending frenzy recently and I have random items starting to turn up to use as tricks. I have a weeny basketball net turning up soon so I expect I'll be back asking questions about that one too. What was I thinking?
  18. I bought a cute pink old style bike horn recently, the one with the rubber bulb at the end that you compress to make a noise. Through shaping Poppy will put her mouth around the rubber bit but she won't squeeze down to make a sound. If I wait for 'more' she gets frustrated and paws at it or nudges with her nose and ultimately walks away. I've tried gently squeezing it myself to make a sound as she mouths it but it hasn't seemed to have helped. Any suggestions on what to try to encourage a biting action? Thanks for any help :)
  19. If you reeeeally think he's busting (which he probably isn't) can you take him out on lead so he has absolutely no opportunity to do anything but toilet then straight back to bed? He's probably much like a child not wanting to sleep but 'needing a glass of water' lol. If he's waking and bored is there anything he can chew for a while or would that be a bit noisy in a quiet room? What happens if he whines through the night and you ignore him
  20. Not sure how to link a Facebook page but it's Happy Dogz at Maudsland. I notice negative comments have all been deleted so it's just comments left saying the groomers have done nothing wrong.
  21. Some celebrities surround themselves with yes men and may not care what the law is if they want something bad enough. Not saying Johnny is but it does seem weird not a soul on the plane was unaware of quarantine laws entering a country? Possibly no one wanted to say to him you shouldn't be doing this??
  22. Those first few weeks are such a critical time to expose the puppy to different situations or environments and make them a positive (or neutral) experience I just don't think you can match this with them at home. If you absolutely don't want them on the ground you can carry them places or take a blanket if you want to sit them down or even use a pram. Like Rebanne said you can do it from the inside of your car or have them on your lap or blanket at cafes, outside schools etc. I think you have to use your imagination and common sense to keep them safe and having good experiences but if you want them blase about the world it means they pretty much have to be out in it (IMO) .
