Surely by now he'd have a safety gate set up so any dogs squeezing past are stuck in an enclosure? Especially if the dog area backs straight on to the street!

I walk my dog in a harness with a horse lunge lead attached to a belt around my waist (she's a terrier though). I LOVE our walks with it. A combination of heeling, recall and emergency stops with some great go sniff rewards. When she's not doing something for me she can have a good sniff at stuff, or stand and stare at things until I catch up and walk past her. She knows when I'm just far enough away that she has to leave what she's doing or risk being pulled along. There's plenty of training opportunities on a long lead and I'm also now extra quick on my feet stepping over the lead when I need to lol.

I notice lots of statements where people say the reason there are so many dogs in the pound is because of irresponsible breeders. I believe the reason they're in the pound is 95% lack of effort in the person who purchased that dog. I would imagine no or little training, socialisation or research in to raising a good pet. I'm sure in the right hands every single one of those dogs would have make a fantastic pet. If responsible breeders (especially those who test for genetic problems) did breed to demand we'd probably find less people buying from backyard breeders. Some breeds have such long waiting lists people lose interest in waiting (unless they're really keen). Mind you if people could buy well bred purebred dogs 'quickly' maybe the same problem would happen with snap decisions being made? I wish the council had some type of incentive for dog owners who attend puppy school, dog obedience or dog sports etc. Maybe even those who buy from breeders registered with their states dog body. Something to encourage those making an effort, and a way to educate those who don't have a clue. That should hopefully create better pets owners and therefore better pet dogs which don't get dumped when they get a bit 'naughty'.

I found a rubber mat at Big W which was only $2.50. It was pretty flimsy and I cut it in half with scissors! Kmart have heaps of polar fleece blankets for $5 and whala. Although I agree, completely tedious cutting and knotting the pieces and I ran out of steam torward the end so there's probably a few gaps which shouldn't be there. It's good to have something different for them to do though.

One snuffle mat in action (thank you LG) :) Just have to be careful not to overfeed the plump one! I bought presents (soft toys to be destroyed) and they watched as I wrapped them. Came back from shopping only to find Poppy had been in the 'out of bounds room'and helped herself to her present. Wrapping paper was strewn around the place but Teddy was intact. Possibly my idea of presents is all wrong and she'd be happy with empty boxes to unwrap lol.

They must have decided paddock work is the only thing which makes them a working dog? Probably worried people will say my dog was bred to be a guard dog so can I have cheaper registration because they guard my house?

What a great (and funny) story. Sounds like a perfect life for a dog!

Sorry for my ignorance Megan_ but why do they need blow drying on a hot day? Does the groomer have a mobile service? Maybe they could come to you?

She's just beautiful! She's so lucky you kept her in your life so she can age and meander in comfort and love. I bet she's given you some lovely memories.

That would have made an amazing photo! In my youth we had a Boxer when I grew up on property (only dog) and she would often carry her bone out into the paddock and sit amongst the cows while chewing it. :laugh: I guess company is company in the end :)

Its been too long... can we have a photo update pretty please? I want to see your naughty little puppies again :laugh: Re touching issues, maybe go backward a bit and spend some time touching and treating without actually doing anything, but then work up to actual grooming?
