  1. You lucky it wasn't there with its mates!
  2. LOL That's cute SM! You are so close to 52 weeks now you can probably almost taste it!!
  3. It might be worth getting your sister take a look at this chart on recommended exercise for pups? I think its just awesome! Exercise chart Avoiding inappropriate exercise will also help avoid muscle and ligament damage through overuse before growth plates close over.
  4. That poor man, I wonder why they attacked? Surely they wouldn't have been trying to eat him??
  5. January is going to take foooooreverrrrr to get here lol.
  6. That definitely makes it tougher! Presuming they're Japanese have they said if they've owned an Akita previously? If not, I imagine a language barrier is not going to make it easy if they want to attend puppy kindy, obedience, or have a dialogue with someone to get help if needed. Unless of course they have same language contacts, but that could be a question to ask? A friend of my partner has a Japanese wife and they were going to get an Akita because it reminded her of home. She has never had a dog and he is not an exerciser so ended up deciding no, thank goodness. Just a thought, but if you want to ask your questions in letter format I'm sure I could get her help translating to Japanese for you? Shoot me a PM if you like?
  7. Awww she looks beautiful! My very first Purebred dog was a Mastiff and I loved her so much. I hope you have many years of love with Briar :)
  8. Can you give them some criteria of what you would require to say yes like puppy kindy, obedience classes and daily appropriate enrichment for the pup\dog through the day to alleviate boredom? It could be the chance to link them to great sites, books or obedience clubs which will foster good knowledge and good habits? With the right information anyone can avoid separation anxiety, provide great socialisation and end up with a well behaved dog. It may be they think I couldn't be bothered and change their mind, or they may very well jump at the opportunity and prove to be great owners?
  9. As well as the other suggestions I would add if they're allowed inside close all windows and blinds before the heat starts. It's amazing the temp difference when the sun can't come in. I also close any doors to rooms which face afternoon sun and normally heat up. The heat radiating from these rooms doesn't help when the house is already hot. Fans on for air movement if you have them etc. If you only have a verandah, thick green shade cloth overhanging is good for light and air movement whilst blocking the harsh sun. :)
  10. I love Swampy! He's just gorgeous!! Re the mix, hmmm how about Border Collie x Dane x wire haired somethingorother? Do you know, or are you guessing too?
  11. Great series of photos...she's a gorgeous girl! There's some crackers in there, both gorgeous and hilarious
  12. I've been to the Carrara After Hours emergency vet twice now. Its $150 for the consultation and they tell you that before they even look at your animal. Extra fees are dependent on the work done afterward. Their website also states: Payment is expected at the time of consultation, and if your pet requires admission to hospital the vet will ask you for an initial deposit with payment in full to be made at the time of discharge. We have two payment plans (Vetpay, and GEM Visa) available for approved applicants if necessary. I don't know if they delay operating until a 3rd party loan gets approval? It might pay to look in to whats required before hand and keep paperwork handy in case you have to go in a hurry one day? Maybe even sus out if you can get pre-approval as a just in case?
  13. I keep an eye on the site for sales because I'd love to buy another! Even just to look at something different to the current bed which just keeps going and going lol. (Sorry for going off topic Lillynix).
  14. Don't start me on the Orvis bed's Westiemum!!
  15. Are you able to set up an exercise area as opposed to crating for hours? It gives the pup more options to move around, do things and expend the energy a growing pup has. Not sure of your setup but as an example, I put together a pen with chicken wire, cable ties and star pickets which let pup go down one side of the house then half way under our verandah. I had as much as I could think for a pup to keep busy in there. A large meaty bone regularly (nothing she could chew off), tub of balls which I'd throw treats in,a small cardboard box taped up with treats inside, a tub of damp sand for digging or lying in, a container of dry leaves, a plank on bricks, a container near it she could jump on to and then off again, a kids pool with an inch of water and floating balls, a tug toy tied off the clothes line, a kids tunnel with a tarp across the top, a small kong stuffed with dry food and another frozen with stock, vegies and dry food in it etc. This meant she was separate from my other dog but had access to sunshine, grass and shelter which I think is important to a young animal. At times she would run completely mental through everything including throwing herself at the side of the tunnel and bouncing off which was hilarious. I increased her time alone from day one but separation anxiety was never an issue because she had so much to do I doubt she realised I was gone! When I was happy letting both dogs stay together through the day she came and went from the house with our other dog via our sliding door bolted open just wide enough to let them through (lucky we have two small dogs). The older Frenchie has to suck her gut in a little to get through but it doesn't stop her doing it at a run lol . Toilet training was never an issue as she could always access outside and I took her out through the night too. Anyway, food for though and good luck with your new pup!
  16. It great getting glimpses of different parts of our beautiful country. Thanks for sharing!
  17. I used a bike pram for my puppy which I loved. There was plenty of room inside and there was a cover which was mesh or you could pull plastic down for weather protection. It had pockets and other handy bits and pieces. You can pick them up quite cheaply if you keep an eye on gumtree and ebay too. Not Paramatta but just to show you what I mean: 2nd hand bike pram
  18. Oh Boy, someone is about to get very very lucky. Such a huge shame for you
  19. The only one I know of in that area is Jacobs Well Vet Surgery. Link here They see a lot of Frenchies and I'm sure other dogs. Some other Gold Coast people might have other suggestions though?
