  1. I don't have a life either and when Eccles comes hope to join you retrieving...should be fun..oh I go herding on Fridays you could bring Pippa gee she is a smashing little pup
  2. one of these is mine 5 weeks old now we are very excited about him
  3. no not harsh :D you care where your puppies go and the new owners as far as possible need to meet your criteria.
  4. and get rid of animals in pet shops ;)
  5. I totally agree! I don't know why everyone is replying ;) sorry I only just saw this post and you are absolutely correct...will slap myself now and am cross with myself for rising to the bait but hey it feels good to have a rant
  6. I guess you could know this was going to happen because she lacks training and stimulation. You signed the contract and you have absolutely no evidence the breeder will actually breed her...she may not be suitable. I am guessing you have a contract with a good breeder who cares about her puppies and their future. I wish all breeders were the same.
  7. Ah ok. Well Liberal supporters will say shes a moron no matter what ;) And people will always make judgments over whether someone will be fit to own a dog without knowing the full situation getting a poodle cross will add pure breed dog breeders to the liberal camp
  8. made me cry too but a fantastic tribute
  9. It is the old newfoundland or St Johns water dog showing their genes. I knew a guy here in Australia who had the biggest pure breed golden I ever saw, size of a newfie with many many black hairs in his coat. You often see black hairs on goldens but I never saw of heard of a pure black puppy before. The original article is not really credible.
  10. ahhh I see now ...you need it made bigger ! do you belong to a dog club ? might find someone there who fixes the equipment to do it a little cheaper for you. There was a crew who made big pet doors ...maybe they are the ones suggested above this post. We have French doors not ranch sliders but even so it took me ages to work out what to do.
  11. why not use a wooden fly screen door ? You can buy them cheaply and then only fly proof the top bit. Take out the middle wood bit at the bottom and make a swinging flap which can be locked. I say this cos we just realised we can do this with our fly screen door. Bunnings sell the fresco timber 3 for $179 but you can get on special or at a salvage yard.
  12. I think you will find that for the most part rescues are the same cost for pure breed as for cross breed but every now and again when there are hundreds of cross breeds it really makes sense financially to ask more for the 'pure breed' just to keep the coffers full to care for the cross breeds. As to the original post I would have thought that the dog in question is in a good home which should be exactly what you want. The people who buy your puppies are absolutely entitled not to return to the breeder though most rescues I know it is always our first question " have you contacted the breeder" If we know the breeder details then a courtesy call and in most cases the breeder is absolutely not able to take the dog back. The breeders who do take dogs back generally are in the rescue business themselves and not just for their own dogs but for their breed. I am in WA and chipping is not yet part of the dog act...the only ownership proof is shire registration, chipping reunites with owners or the rescue group as most rescues have the dog chiped to them and not the owner, the owner is a second contact. Sometimes chips don't show up as in the case of a beautiful pure breed dog in the pound for way past her time, I heard she was there and collected her. She was scanned and no chip showed... I took her to the vet a couple of weeks later for results of a routine blood test and to get her chipped ( she was already desexed and vaccinated ) she had a chip !!! so where was it hiding ? who knows but it happens.BTW the chip owner had sold her earlier in the year and the number she gave us for the new owner was not connected. Rescue does try very hard to reunite.
  13. sorry I am late with this but I find it hard to come here, I just heard and I am so very sorry. I know how you feel as sadly so many of us do. Run free now sweet Cordelia, you were just so special to us all here on DOL rescue xxx

  15. "Fogo Twillingate Mortons Harbour all around the circle" best kind m'dear ahh Newfoundland ...long time no see
  16. Don't know if this will help you but we used to live in Newfoundland. One of the general sayings is "Best Kind'both in Newfoundland and Labrador. Also 'Buddy ' is a third person reference. Some names on The Labrador are French since Quebec made a claim to it (lost)many place names end in ARM to describe a piece of land which stretches out to the ocean. There are native Indians on the Labrador. A google will assist you with language. The place names are fantastic ...
  17. I am so sorry my heart is breaking for you run free now sweetheart
  18. No-one who uses prong collars properly uses 'extreme pain' as a teaching tool. But I'm sure you knew that ;) Begs the question - how many are used incorrectly? How many people use check chains incorrectly? Or head collars? Or martingales? Any tool can be used to abuse a dog, that is a problem with the user not the tool. so how do you control the user ? you can't.The only way to stop abuse with tools of training is to ban them. People will still abuse and hurt their dogs but while these products are for sale on the open market they will be used to hurt dogs legitimately. A few years ago on this forum K9 force was explaining to people how to import prong collars in bits and fit them together. I was horrified for a multitude of reasons. K9 had /has a cult following on this forum...the people who were wanting to buy them in bits had no idea in the world how to train a stuffed dog from the posts they made. They did import they did use them I guess and no one showed them how to use it "correctly' which is the one word on training tools which irritates me more than any other. So long as they are used 'correctly' yeah right ...imported in bits and put together just like the other contraversial collar with the user not having a clue. chip chip
  19. you will decide what you want to do please read some info first http://www.caninedevelopment.com/Sibling.htm It is fairly common for littermates to have problems, many are rehomed and that is devastating. Do a bit more research.
  20. thanks for that, I use alternative treatments for my own dogs and have had great success particularly with my kelpie x lab who had an injury. I was so impressed by acupuncture I have sent many friends to the same vet. This latest rescue dog is a really sad case but is well nourished and not overweight. A beautiful dog really, friendly with everyone and everything. There are some really knowledgeable folk on here like Erny and people like yourself with experience of similar illness. I guess after some debating I will be back here to see what the results of surgery are like. In my personal experience with close friends surgery has not been that wonderful for shoulder OCD but I guess there are a lot of factors to consider. Thanks everyone
  21. we are SAFE Perth so not an option..
  22. you know Ruby Star that us lot are thinking of you all as well, hugs to dear Ruby and Millie xx
  23. thanks guys, pretty much as I thought, the latest has it in his hock.
  24. A few dogs coming through recently with OCD into rescue, we make the diagnosis post surrender from a seemingly healthy dog. Symptoms appear and the vet makes the diagnosis. We do all the usual re diet, glucosamine, fish oil etc and obviously pain relief as prescribed by the vet but wondering if anyone has heard of or knows of any success other than surgery.
