I have 2 dogs, one is 13 and one is 8. I had stopped annual vaccs a long time ago then I moved to the city a few years ago and they were required for kennels. My Mal, Rusky got KC twice whilst vaccinated and despite all the "it could have been a worse virus or wasn't one of the strains" I read as much as I could including some KC vaccine lasts less than 6 months and stopped vaccinating. My old golden (Cindy) still has a lump where she was given the last C5. I fail to seee why an old dog needs distemper or even parvo. So far apart from the standard " it is the manufacturers recomendation" I haven't read or been told anything which has changed my mind. I take my dogs to the vet if they are ill. I will give any future pet vaccs to 3 years. I have also stopped vaccinating the cat, he is 16.

where are you training tiggy? I have been wondering since you posted because most clubs in Perth do use food for training.

I stopped annual vaccinations after reading all the avialble info. The vet yesterday told me the dogs are overdue for their shots and I said 'they aren't having them ' he said 'ok' thats it. I made my own decision because I have not been happy with annual vacc for years. I am happy and comfortale with my decision. thank you for the links and the topic

Uncontrollable Urge To Pee. Stops On Vomit
Rusky replied to Erny's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
hey Kal and Erny we are thinking of you and this "maybe" treatment sounds promising. I hope you get some info from the next lot of tests and all your "special" treatments are giving Kal a happy time. -
dogs usually eat their vomit. I would say it was a change of diet by giving him the brisket bone, maybe too much gelatine for him.

I know it is a pain but take him back to the vet for a bit of debridement and a clean up job, then he needs a cuddle, poor thing.

I am so sad for you

Handlers Spitting Food Or Holding Food In Mouth
Rusky replied to TroysMum's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I have seen people do this, I don't like it. I think there are more genteel ways of getting your dogs attention if you use food. Still if they like it and it works for them why not? -
to stop the dog chewing on shoes or whatever don't leave them lying around. Make sure your pup has lots of nice chewy things of his own. Enrol in a puppy pre school now for socialisation, ask your vet. If the friends dog is vaccinated it is ok. google and read as much as you can about the breed. I have never growled at my dogs so can't help you with that. toilet training is the same for all dogs.

erny I wish so much that we could help you with your fears, sending hugs to you and Kal for the tough days ahead. We are all here for you both -
scotch fingers just might be responsible for an increase in white blood cells. I think Ollie is just doing a little responsible research. Thinking of you all, you too dogbesotted and that bit about the dogs seize the day attitude is simply wonderful.

take her out for a walk? Find a new area for her to pee in and go with her and praise her when she pees where you want her to, give pats, good girl, treats.

if this is the big boy just make sure he doesn't lie around too much, keep him up and walking to preven any secondary chest infection. Rusky has had the dreaded KC a few times, Cindy never! odd they live together. I give rusky a cough medicine I make myself to soothe her throat from honey and a drop of lemon, in a syringe, it helped a lot. She vomited the red food colouring from the prescription cough syrup. Keep warm, excercised, drinking, and cuddled and all will be well. The last time she had KC we didn't go near the vet. ps all vaccs up to date but so many strains of KC

Submissive/cowering/slinking Off With Food...
Rusky replied to gemibabe's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
When he does come to you for a pat give him a treat, may mean you need to permanently carry treats in your pocket. When you call him to you and he comes and Sheby comes too treat them both, reward with food. Ignore him unless he comes to you inside the house, respect his privacy and wanting to hide. Try really really hard not to raise your voice but if you do, don't look at him to wonder if he is upset, or even go looking for him...ignore. If he doesn't want treats or pats simply "good dog" or "Good boyyyeeee" He loves Shelby and Shelby loves him, there is 95% of your problems sorted it all takes time. Make sure you feed separately, so Shelby inside and he outside or laundry or whatever, still make him wait for his food and give him a release command. Then leave him alone till he has finished. When visitors arrive, tell them to ignore the dogs then go outside after a while, still ignoring them and if he shows interest in the visitor reward him. I mean waggy tailed sniffing. This boy has landed on his feel alright, he is so lucky to have found you.
