  1. that is really really sad. I have sent you a PM and will try to find someone to help you. I know most of the crew at GSDA. I will speak to them about this problem as their policy is that a dog which looks like a GSD is more then welcome. I have been down there when they hold reactive classes on another matter and the classes seem to be going very well indeed. They certainly would not have advised you to get an electric collar. I hate that you guys have this perception of the club and I am guessing they need to do something to address the problem.
  2. I don't think that formal education reflects the way a person cares for their dog. "educated" people abuse animals too
  3. it is the other way round I think
  4. I would be letting him settle in with you guys after a month in quarantine, let him get to know you again and to feel safe before mass socialisation like a dog free area where other dogs can run up to him. Take him to on lead areas where other dogs are controlled by their handlers. Start in a park and eventually move to a dog club ( call them ) ask if you can just sit and reward from a distance, short bursts of just 15 mins or so. Build it up, don't push him, he has had a bit of a starnge time lately with air travel and quarantine.
  5. can't stop crying, thank you for that story though. I wish I could dream of Rusky and myself running along the beach again....
  6. oh I do hope so, you must be going demented with worry. Love those photos Sparky
  7. sorry which number ? sorry you are on 26 not 49 oops sorry. the rules don't say which return just that after the return the dog moves forward and doesn't sit...so I would do left but both are correct according to the rules Thanks Rusky, to me left made sense but I wasn't sure if there was a written rule somewhere. is there any chance at all you could make Wednesday mornings ? We had a great time this Wednesday Jill Houston set up a very interesting and challenging course which I bombed out on but it was great fun. Also why don't you hang around for a bit on Mondays ? we set up around 8.15 as soon as a trainer is free ( and the ground is quieter) on the main arena. The newbies are enjoying the experience and it is fantastic to see them really kick in with lure, reward, encouragement or whatever to get around the course. I train till just before 9 so I shouldn't be watching but can't help myself

  9. doesn't the dog back up with you and then you move forward I hope ... moving down means there is no halt, so mid stride drop I think but Angel will clarify I am sure.
  10. I think it will be Monday 11th October for registration for SR but we may decide to have an earlier registration night depending on the term length. Monday 11th will be the first night back for training. We have not changed the scrolling message yet for start of new term but watch the space. http://southernriverdogclub.org.au
  11. just go up straight from the lower oval. There simply isn't room to set up a course on the main arena before 8pm...but I will be on the lower oval at 7 and the equipment is in my car so we could set up a few stations
  12. I won't be till 9pm but equipment will go up when the 8pm people have finished. It was a bit rainy today at GSDA but we had a good time excellent
  13. we put up a course on Monday evening and it will be a regular thing, it was good fun and the interesting thing was how quickly my newbies of 2 weeks took to it like a duck to water. We are short of trainers for a spare and short of space right now but if anyone is down there on Mondays before we put it up at 8pm the equipment is in my car or in the office We are also training on Wednesday mornings at the GSDA grounds and don't forget the CAWA show and go on Sunday for obedience and Rally. Will email you angelsun. I need some info and an email chat
  14. I am so sorry for your loss I am not sure right now if it was the same but a friend of mine lost their 3 year old large breed to a fungal disease on Friday. If it was the same diagnosis I will put you in touch with each other.
  15. Thanks again everyone and yes winterpaws she is the reason for a lot of northern breed dogs finding a fantastic new home...one even made the billboards for pet rescue pedigree adoption drive and had her picture on the dog food. Yes all down to my Rusky. I love and miss her so much.

I am so sorry, so very sorry. I know exactly how you feel.
  17. Thank you so much for your positive comments about the bridge and your condolences. They mean a lot to me.
  18. my darling girl died on june 23rd. My heart is broken and life will never be the same again. The vet came to our home and she was surrounded by her family who I called to let them know, they all came... Rusky would have been 14 in October. There will never be another dog like her, she made me laugh everyday, she gave the best cuddles in the world, quite simply I loved her and there is a hole in my heart. I have to believe there is a rainbow bridge as the thought of never seeing her again is too painful.
  19. poor Mr G he feels very upset. I will ask him to watch some more videos then he will get the idea. hey rubystar trying to get the laminating done for tonight but if not by next week, having a busy time since Angelsun left. Rally is so much more fun than I thought and we all had a good laugh at each others errors. On Monday we handled each others dogs, well mine was a loaned dog all weekend as my boy had KC It was actually good for the dogs and for us. The whole weekend was fast paced and my head still hurts. If any of you have not been to a seminar and there is one in your area you should definitely make the effort. Tiggy we are hoping to bring Angelsun back before the end of the year, hope you can make it then. There is a show and go at canine in August for obedience and the dogs west obedience committee are allowing Rally to be part of the show and go, this will be fantastic for the new judges and a chance for people who were not at the seminar to have a go. We plan to have a few sequences outside of the ring to get used to the signs. This was the bit I found difficult, some signs are very similar. I am working on familiarising myself with the novice signs.
  20. we all had a fantastic weekend and are all fired up to start the training and to do some fun trials. I have Rally stations going round and round in my head. It is a bit like rubbing your tummy and patting your head as we are all so used to someone telling us to do this or that and we only had ourselves to rely on. Anyway it was a pleasure to host you and we learned so much our heads are hurting. Soon as I can count to three I will get the novice class beaten yes you told us ! You never did help me with those weavers...so you HAVE to come back soon
