  1. Beautiful dog Perry's Mum! I especially love that big fluffy tail! :D
  2. I have a 10m lead - will bring, if she decides she doesn't want it I'll just leave it in the car
  3. Cool thanks Dxenion I'll just keep an extra eye on weez's body language near your lovely pooch. Like I said he's not reactive (not that I want to push him) - he had an entire teenager come up and sniff him twice today, he just did a lot of lip-licking and turning away, and eventually just skitted off to sit somewhere else
  4. Ah pups are cool He was friends with a boxer pup until the boxer reached about 1, now Weez just wants to be as far away from him as possible. He's a funny little weasel, but very sweet
  5. The foxdog always sees the appearance of a whippet as a challenge She's very accustomed to being the fastest dog at the beach/park. Just wondering if anyone is bringing an entire male? I suspect Weez has a bit of a fear of testosterone. He only shuts down and wants to go the other way, no agression. I haven't narrowed down if it's just teenagers yet either. It's no problem, I just sit with him until he relaxes, just curious
  6. >more nerdy facts< Hyenas are actually much more closely related to cats than dogs I was blown away when I learned that
  7. Sunscreen The local council is pretty good about keeping the poo-bag dispensers stocked
  8. Hi Jazzygirl - I'm afraid I can't help with your question, but you might get a few more eyeballs if you post in the kelpie subforum of general discussion - http://www.dolforums.com.au/topic/72425-kelpies/ - it's not an overly active thread, but more so than this one
  9. From another part of wiki though - I think it's one of those typical folklore things, gets altered slightly with each retelling
  10. Dunno Xena but would love to find out! I'd never heard of a red cloud 'til I moved to WA. From talking to locals, I think some think it is a red dog with a white blaze, some think it's a red & tan or red/tan/white I even had someone call the foxdog a 'silver cloud'. Lovely name, but I haven't heard the term before or since.
  11. The line between red and chocolate confuses me too Some look very red and some very choc but there seems to a fair bit of transition in between. And what they call 'red' in the link Kavik posted was clearly a cream to me. I wonder if that's because it's an American site? Anyway, I've given up. I just call them all 'red' unless the owner says it's choc
  12. MalteseLuna is a coat colour genetics genius, but I think she is off having a life :p I have nothing helpful to add, but I do have a gratuitous picture of a fawn (dilute red) kelpie :D
  13. Thanks ST! I'll be there with Weez (the Foxdog is a bit grumpy with other dogs and if they are both together Weez just watches her the whole time anyway) CC you almost certainly won't have any trouble with Weez, he is fairly aloof these days and will probably just sniff the ground and hang around looking for treats most of the time He has also been known to run away with his tail between his legs for far less from much smaller dogs!
  14. I just looked these up - absolutely gorgeous! Lovely coats and adorable foxish faces!
  15. What's 'not a dog' about a Cape hunting dog? I chose a Wolf on my list :D [nerd] ah but wolves and dogs are the same species, painted dogs aren't even in the same genus :p [/nerd] Please edumacate me...if it's not a dog then what is it? TY It is still within the same family (canids) along with wolves, jackals, coyotes, domestic dogs and foxes, but the African dog lineage is unique and has just the one species. Wolves, jackals and coyotes are the next most closely related group (the Canis group), then within the 'wolf' species there are numerous subspecies which include domestic dogs, dingoes, new guinea singing dogs and a bunch of different types of wolf. The main difference is that you could breed a domestic dog and a wolf together and get viable offspring, not so with domestic dogs and African dogs Edit - too slow! Thanks Longclaw

  17. Leaving wet paw prints can also be a sign of stress, just something to watch out for
  18. Yes it could be different if he's reached sexual maturity before he was desexed Weez has never humped anything (our girl on the other hand.... )
  19. My desexed male (done at about 6 months) has met a couple of bitches in heat and hasn't shown any more interest in them than he has any other dog Your mileage may vary of course.
  20. It was the Pound who made the statement..... No that isn't correct, I don't know why they would say that. When a dog is scanned for a chip the details on the chip are used to contact the owner. I worked at a pound for 3 years and not once did we decide not to call the owners, that's madness. I think maybe the person you spoke to doesn't have a clue. I think that some pounds do, some pounds don't. I don't think our pound used to but they seem to have picked up their game. I always take a found dog to my local vet first to check for a chip before calling the pound, they are really lovely about it (they also do cat rescue)
  21. In the training forum there is a sub-forum 'dog tricks', you could sift through there to find suitable trick Depending on which leg is hurt you could teach a high-five, wave, poking things with her nose on cue, pick up and hold things on cue, shy (put paw over face), practice looking you in the eye while you hold food out to the side or drop it on the floor, bark and hush on cue, and probably a bunch of others I can't think of right now!
  22. Once again we prove to have very similar taste in dogs :D
  23. The pet shop thing is an unchangable quantity - she'd already bought the dog and it was clearly a decision that made a lot of people wince but the issue now is making sure the 2 dogs get along. Missy for some reason I did assume your dog was a few years younger (I blame it being late ) so I apologise for that. I'm glad you came back to clear up some concerns people had and I'm glad your dogs are doing better today
  24. Once Fox had a head to head collision with a bigger dog when they were both going for her ball, and she had one pupil bigger than the other for the rest of the night We watched her like hawks too and she was fine in the morning. Like T said, you're probably in s better position to pick up any unusual behaviour than a stranger
