I now follow this as per document below, and one of my dogs by the 2nd year lost all his allergies then I had to go away and he had to have his shots to get boarded the allergies came back with a vengenance. My vet says he will not do hearworm injections as in the states they are being linked to cancer at the site of injection. ------------------- NEW VACCINATION PROTOCOLS by Dr Jean Dodd (America) I would like to make you aware that all 27 Veterinary Schools in Nth America are in the process of changing their protocols for vaccinating dogs and cats. Some of this information will present an ethical and economic challenge to Vets and there will be sceptics. Some organizations have come up with a political compromise suggesting vaccination every 3 years to appease those who fear loss of income. NEW PRINCIPLES OF IMMUNOLOGY. Dogs and cats immune systems mature fully at 6 months. If a modified live virus vaccine is given after 6 months of age, it produces immunity which is good for the life of the pet. If another MLV vaccine is given a year later, the anti bodies from the first vaccine neutralize the antigens of the second vaccine and there is little or no effect. The titer is not boosted nor are more memory cells induced. Not only are annual boosters for parvo and distemper unnecessary, they subject the pet to potential risks of allergic reactions and immune-mediated haemolytic amenia. There is no scientific documentation to back up claims for annual administration of MLV vaccines. Puppies receive anti bodies through their mother’s milk. This natural protection can last 8 to 14 weeks. Puppies and kittens should NOT be vaccinated at less than 8 weeks, maternal immunity will neutralize the vaccine and little protection (0-38%) will be produced. Vaccination at 6 weeks will, however DELAY the timing of the first highly effective vaccine. Vaccination given 2 weeks apart SUPPRESS rather than stimulate the immune system. A series of vaccinations is given starting at 8 weeks and given 3 to 4 weeks apart up to 16 weeks of age. Another vaccination given sometime after 6 months of age (usually at 1 year 4 months) WILL PROVIDE LIFETIME IMMUNITY.

Frozen Barf "patties" Vs Buy Own Ingredients
Alprazolam replied to samoyedman's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I use to make my own now just buy the Barf Patties as I have a big freezer and one pattie feeds my 4 dogs for the day. Twice a week they have lamb shanks and one day they fast (So do I ). -
It was quite popular in Brisbane a few years ago as a cancer preventitive in pink nose dogs however it did not seem to lower the risk of skin cancers so it was phased out (I though) Do a search on the net and see what you can find.

Allergic To Chicken...? What Would You Feed...?
Alprazolam replied to tianakaesha's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Mine are allergic to chicken, beef and grains. I find Kangaroo was way to rich, it had to be introduced gradually, Tell her to go organic and catch her own mice  Just joking I know you are a rattie person. White fish, rabbit is very good, goat if you can get it. Good luck. It can be a bugger to clear up. -
Phuscuillum (sp) husks that you can buy at woolworths are Metamusicul without the flavouring, and a quarter of the price. For my Chi the vet told me 1 level teaspoon in warm water then blend with food. I do that and it is great. However she still has a problem with her anal glands so once a month I pop up to the vet and he does them. He says I cannot do them as she is too small and he does not charge for that "wonderful" act so who am I to complain.

Whos Gets There Dogs Shots Every Year
Alprazolam replied to DoBeRMaNN's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Go to the breeders forum where a dol member asked about yearly vaccinations until I read that I was having yearly. I just put in vaccinations in the search area. I had looked at all the forums but that had some great replies including facts. -
Be careful with Roo meat I was told never to give it to him as it can create an attack as it is too rich for dogs that are prone towards this disease.

All this advice is great. Also may I suggest you so a little apron in reverse for Mika. Like a dogs coat except it prevents the belly from any contact with grass. The vet chuckled when he saw it. It worked though as mine has severe allergies. I have contacted a herbalist and am starting a course of this to see if it works. Buffalo grass and wandering jew are big culprits. Good luck

My vet suggested he had some hills diet first than I could feed Barf with about 60% vegetables to 40% low fat meat such as chicken or beef. For treats rice puffs with a smidge of vegemite is ok. Was told Brisket bones are as bad as fat for these poor guys.

Inflammatory Bowel Disease

I have had this with one of my dogs for the last 3 months. In desperation I contacted a herbalist who over the net and with no charge gave me two recipes for remedies and after having it over the weekend 3 times are day. We are back to normal stools!!!!!!! No those horrible, squichy yellow ones that stink to high heavens. I am using the i/d formula ones till the packet is finished then I am going onto the F/P ones and Barf. I am so relieved as I got back my IBS from the stress. NB I used this on myself as well and it worked. -
Slowone, Good on you we need more alternative health practioners if we had one here I would have your number memorised by now. Keep us updated on how you are going please.

Allergic Reaction Nightmare!
Alprazolam replied to greentea's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Because of the breed of my dogs I have been told never to use Drontal. Another breeder did of her 10 dogs 8 became very ill and hyper. My vet orders another brand in for me. I am so glad all is well now. -

Bones were nearly the death of to of my dogs. I have found Greenies was the best even though I do follow the barf diet except for Brisket bones and lamb shanks.
