  1. The council have told me nothing...they snuck it in the court papers, I own a RST breed dog. I loathe initialisms, I thought it meant I owned a registered breeding dog, which is true, Boyd is entire and registered, but it's for showing, not breeding. He's clearly under another charge though.q
  2. She's a RB now. She is registered as a boxer cross staffy, which is what she is. The council ranger ID'ed her as a pit bull cross. All of my gates are locked anyhow, and she's never in the yard without me for more then 5minutes at a time anyway.
  3. I don't like this at all. My 6yo staffy x boxer was adopted to me by the RSPCA, she has no teeth because of her last home. The Monash council has taken her and she's now a restricted breed which means she's gotta be on leash, muzzled and caged when in my yard. I've proven in court that she's done nothing wrong. Knowing this council, they'll return her, get me to pay dangerous dog registration, then send the ranger over here to claim and destroy her.
  4. After the way Monash council's treated me, I can only think someone's making money out of it.
  5. You also need to make sure they can't dig under the fence into the kennel run. I'm more experienced with cats, but don't the girls howl and make themselves a pain, and then the boys smell and come and get the girl?
  6. Have you noticed that Mr Smith also goes on to say it's irresponsible owners and BYB's fault so many end up in shelters, not misidentification that so many dogs end up dead. AAARRGGGHHHH...this is all contradictory crap! The government should stop trying to choose what breed people own and start enforcing the laws we already have!
  7. There's also the RSPCA being used as council pounds, the money for that comes in as Earned on their financial statements...we have a conflict of interests here...LDH also 'trained' many council animal control officers.
  8. http://www.perthnow.com.au/a-load-of-pit-bull-from-selfish-dog-owners/story-fn6mhct1-1226119168251 Harsher penalties - applauded by me (typed by the owner of a rough collie who's been accused of attacking a woman(lies - I was there too!) and of being a pitbull cross by the council, I have his dogsvic pedigree) BSL - why bother? The morons who want a 'tough dog' will just move on to other breeds. Start enforcing the rules we have rather then adding more unenforceable laws!
  9. http://www.examiner.com/american-pit-bull-in-national/pacifica-dog-mauling-what-really-happened-1 Says it all really...
  10. One's for dry stuff, for when he's tired of physical stuff, but his mind needs something eg. sleepless nights or when we're travelling and he can't get up and play. The wet stuff one's newer, I bought it for summer when I froze stuff in it. The rubber itself is squashier, he throws and fetches that one all by himself, it continues to smell yummy and fun if it's not stuffed with kibble. I'm thinking of taking a couple of chicken necks...would Optimum kibble be Ok? I'm thinking large breed puppy kibble for in the kong, adult for his meals. My dad created the rule - no swimming for an hour after eating. I know it's crap for humans, but it makes sense for Horse, I don't think I'll feel like watching him swim after a decent meal!
  11. Peanut Butter in his 'sticky stuff' kong - crunchy or smooth? I've been told crunchy could choke him. Kibble in his 'dry' kong - which kibble works best? I want something that comes in reasonably large bits to keep him occupied. I want to be able to buy in bulk and seperate carryable amounts so it doesn't cost incredibly. I'm going to cook pasta and mix it with kibble, enough that fits in 1.2kg tins per day. He will have a 'permanent' water bowl in the room, but we'll spend considerable amounts of time next to the river (well, I'll be beside the river, Horse'll be swimming!)
  12. LDH numbers are even worse then the RSPCA.
  13. Not quite that small a percentage...I have an autosomal recessive problem that means my skin has lost it's elasticity. I have been pregnant, my skin didn't go back to normal, I've been scanned up and down, makes me feel like an elephant with so much floppy skin!
  14. Yes If the dog is DogsVic registered, you only have to pay the concession rate, which is $16.50 per dog for the year.
  15. Thanks I'm also a DogsVic member, but I have only one purebred dog. I had no idea in all honesty, I know this council gives a discount to registered dogs when they're licensed with the council, I had no idea about the permits though.
  16. He's a member of DogsVic...DogsVic limits you to 10 bitches without the need to be registered as a business, I have no idea if they also limit the number of dogs. He has 3 DogsVic registered dogs, not sure if they're all on main register, but at least 1 is. The council limits him to 2 dogs. Should he pay the permit costs for the 3rd dog, or do DogsVic rules override the council's in this case?
  17. The problem with a GPS on/in a dog would be that ANYONE with a reciever could watch and track when and where your pet goes, which can be used by thieves to determine when your home, by nasty people to know when to steal the dog...the possibility for nastiness is endless. The government is also one step closer to controlling thhe people of this country...
  18. Black Dog wear's good...for dog coats, caribu horsewear's great,
  19. -Well, you did accuse me of leaning on him. Even for a perfectly healthy dog that'd be a bad idea. I've spent the last 20mins trying to give him yoghurt, first refusal of food I've seen from him, I even offered it off my spoon, he turned his head and started cleaning the cat with drool. I've ordered 2 huge bags of Uncle Alber, to be delivered on Thursday. Horse can finish the chicken mince with egg mix, my rats can have the tinned food and the cats can have the mince. Is it ok if I still give him a carrot and chook necks as treats/stuff to chew on?
  20. Snook, Horse is a dog, not a horse. He doesn't have the same bone structure. My assist dog program and I agree, he is never to be expected to be leaned on, that would hurt him. I don't have a problem bearing my own weight, it's my leg movements and my balance that are the problem. If I needed something to lean on, I'd use a walking stick.
  21. I am not making him work at all until we get the blood test results back, on Friday. Who says he 'hauls' me anywhere? He helps me maintain my balance when I stand, helps me get back in my wheelchair if I fall on the ground, he helps cut down the frequency of my panic attacks(I was assaulted and mugged a few years ago) and he guides me home after a panic attack. All of this requires more brain work then physical work. How can anyone think many small meals=underfeeding him? he eats 1.5kgs of food a day!! Thanks for the suggestion of Uncle Alber. Would mixing the egg with the salmon for maybe 1/2 meals daily be good?
  22. Never even heard of Uncle Albers, but I'll ask around. For the people who've asked, both of the minces come from the pet shed, they're NOT tinned. The chicken mince and necks both seem to have more fat content then the cat mince, the neck bits are given as treats, I give them, not throw them to him because of his gulping habit. I'm not bitching about his legs, I know they're unrelated. His loin is only 3 or 4 inches long, his ribs take up so much more of his body length then they should. It's not that he can't eat enough, it's that he can't eat all he needs AT ONCE. If I feed him all his food in one meal, it will all come out the back end undigested meaning he can't fit it all in there at once. That's why he's fed many times per day, so he's given time to actually digest it. As for the comment about his strength, he's still perfectly happy to jump my 6ft high back fence, but he'll only do that if I'm not in the yard with him. He adores scratching to the bottom of his clam shell sand pit, and when not in uniform and off lead, he'll ignore a bit of sandwich I offer to run after and say hello to another dog! He's NOT starved!
  23. The carrot is only one carrot, I thought he needs something to chew! He tends to gobble food, not eat it, the chicken necks were swallowed whole until I started to cut them in half. Our last vet visit was 2 weeks ago, the vet gave him canex then revolution. He eats a variety of food, not just the tinned food! We're always out doing things, a bit of extra water won't kill him.
  24. The 1st vet visit(RSPCA) she said he's very underfed, and told me to feed him 595g of Hills Science Diet(approx 1/3rd of his normal diet), one meal per day. He was in training at that time. He fainted during a run at the park, so I took him to Lort Smith, who said feed him at least 2 meals a day, feed him whatever works for him. He's 3 1/2. FTGH ad on gumtree when he was 18months old. His last people got him as a lab x border collie, but he grew too big and started jumping their fence. The LS vet checked him and said without knowing his family history, there's no way to tell if he has any genetic problems, but he'd recovered from the RSPCA slip-up well, and there was no reason to not start training him. His ex family gave him 2 meals a day of purina one large breed. When I started training, he ate the same amount, but half supercoat, half chicken mince. His diet slowly changed to what it is now because I was worried about his teeth, and the addition of more meals stopped the excessive poops and stopped him begging like he's never been fed before.
  25. He's my hip height, so he's perfect for balance assistance. He's a lab x I think Newf, he has a thick double coat and huge feet. I think his ribs extend too far down his body, they stop his stomach from digesting much food at once. His pelvic bones stick up because of his VERY short loin, thus resulting in people telling me my dog is starving. He's fed 4 or 5 meals per day, or the food comes out at the same rate as it goes in. He is 29.7kgs at his heaviest, at 29.4kgs his butt looks seriously skinny and it worries me. He's fed a mix of cat mince, tinned dog food, chicken mince/necks an egg maybe once a week and every 2nd day he gets a carrot, which all adds up to about 1.5kgs per day. Any opinions?
