  1. Thanks for everyone's replies. It has really helped.
  2. Looking for people's advice. I have two Labs. One is 9 years old and the other is 10 months old. When we are in bed, they sleep downstairs in an area that I have cordoned off for them. It is at the bottom of the steps and early on we had to put some ply wood down on the bottom step as the pup was taking a liking to the carpet and wooden balustrade. We also have baby gates at the bottom of the stairs and against another wall to block them in. On weekends, when we want a bit more sleep (pup is only sleeping for about 7 hours), we let them out for the toilet, then bring them back in. It is not possible to simply leave them outside as older dog barks. If I put them back in cordoned area, the pup bangs on the baby gate or chews the ply wood. Both of which gives us no sleep. If we let them out in to the house, the pup finds things to detroy. We are thinking of buying a crate for the pup, so that we can get some more sleep, but am concerned that she will carry on if the older dog is allowed to wander. Should we crate both? Is 9 year old too late to crate a dog? Sorry for the novel.
