  1. Hi Sunnyjohn, Yes there is. Just do a google search and you'll see what is available.
  2. Hi All, I am looking to hold a K9Pro workshop in Toowoomba in the second half of this year. I am just looking to gauge the level of interest from others in Qld. I am sure it will be well supported and there are quite a few people in Toowoomba who would want to go already but thought i'd put it out there and see how much other support there would be. Thanks!
  3. I was lucky that my beautiful girl Mia whelped a gorgeous litter of 7 with minimal fuss. Two dead pups but both died well before they were due. That I could handle. Nature has its reasons. Mia struggled in the first 24hrs, wanted to be with us but also wanted to be with puppies and couldn't make up her mind. One tiny bit of mastitis and pups with the runs as a result. Overall 7 lovely healthy pups and one beautiful healthy mum. It's stupid but I can't help thinking we got off with things too lightly and that next time I won't be so lucky. I would like to breed another litter, I would like to improve on our girls again, we really did achieve what we wanted with our last litter and you can't ask for much more than that. But there is a sneaky voice in the back of my head that says, could you live with yourself if something happened to your girl. The answer is no, I love those girls more than words can ever explain. It's a stupid feeling, a nagging 'what if' but even 2 years down the track I feel too lucky, I watched a friend go through an awful time losing a few pups despite doing absolutely everything she could to try and save them. At the moment we want to give as much time to our girls as we can, in particular the pup we kept from our last litter, i'm studying my masters and life in general is just far too busy to be able to give the time that a litter needs. Will we breed again, I don't know. I still think I'd like to but that nagging voice won't go away....
  4. Rally Valley how do you toilet train yours? I did it with my first litter but am interested in people's different techniques!! Always something to learn! Oh and I LOVE your puppies. I have a soft spot for the Brittany - just can't deal with the hair. Us GSP people are just lazy about hair!! It's all the running around we have to do with the dogs - can you imagine if they had long hair too! Then they'd be a full time job. Nevafollo - awwwww gorgeous, love those pointer pups!
  5. i just tried that breed selector and it was spot on, had Weim's in top spot and GSP's second but still at 100%, the top 5 were all on our short list. Really surprised as GSPs have never shown up on any we've done before and yet they're perfect for us!
  6. We got both for our first litter. The rubber back was good re: slippage (only really became an issue for us with naughty 6week old GSPs trying to play tug with each other and by then it didn't matter!) but it doesn't last as long and is a real mess when it starts breaking down. I also found with my winter litter that it took longer to dry. Overall i'd go green back next time as it dried on the same day even on a wet cold rainy day and it's still going strong.
  7. My GSP still was very active during her pregnancy and after the pups arrived. Her front have tucked up (although the nipples are larger of course) and the back ones between her legs are still somewhat saggy. I agree with Trisven, seems some spring back and others don't!
  8. Yep one of mine has done this after every season since the very first one!
  9. I use the wire collapsible crates and my girls were fine. Now if I set up a crate they try to push past each other to be first in!
  10. ha ha Megan, it's just like we don't tell them that we actually spent more on our dog's x-mas presents than theirs....what they don't know can't hurt them!
  11. One question for those who have done recallers before. I notice lots of dogs using tug toys for the games etc. My girls are GSPs and have very 'soft' mouths. Can anyone recommend a good tug toy and somewhere to get them? They really are very picky about what they are prepared to put in their mouth and if it's not soft there is no chance!
  12. I enrolled today and am so excited. Watching all the videos on the site and her facebook page i'm hoping we can achieve the same kind of results and enjoy being with our girls at the same time. I want them to enjoy our training and I want to enjoy it too. I only did the cheapest option. I have to admit watching all those videos so many of them almost bring a tear to my eye..... Time is at a premium at our place and i'm looking forward to making training a priority in an enjoyable way for both the girls and us.
  13. I have a question about no exercise 2hrs before or after a feed. My kids are very active all on their own and will run around the yard willy nilly. If I was to wait for them to have no exercise at all before a meal I'm not sure they'd likely ever get fed. Does anyone else have this problem?
  14. Cazstaff I feel absolutely sick reading this. I cannot imagine the pain and grief you must be feeling. You are in no way responsible for this. We entrust our precious dogs to 'professionals' to care for them as we would in our absence. You could never have seen this coming. I know if anything happened to one of my girls I would be ensuring I did all I could to ensure it never happened again, not for the money itself but to some money is the only real penalty they will feel. I send hugs your way and hope that in time you will be able to feel a little sunshine in your life again and know that your Buddy loved you and always will.
  15. +1 that looks amazing... +1 again, that does look great. Not that i'm expecting a litter anytime soon but just in case....
  16. Well I hope you have some happy healthy babies and mum soon. My girl was probably slightly clingier than usual in the week leading up to whelping. She went day 63 on the dot! However as I sat there day 62 evening with her and she looked perfectly happy and comfortable and all as usual I started thinking about calling the vet in the morning for a check up to make sure. The only sign she showed of imminent whelping was when I went to put her in the whelping room in her box (as we had done for the last 7 nights!) and she was really upset when I went to leave to go to bed. So I dragged in the mattress and slept the night with her. About 4am she really wanted to go outside so off we went with torch and blanket in hand, she had a wee and we went back in, however she didn't settle and kept wanting to go back outside. 5:45am waters broke, 6am first pup. My mentor breeder could not believe how calm and quiet my girl was leading up to and during delivery. She uttered not a single sound, no scratching, shredding of the paper or anything, just calmly had a few contractions, poppped out a pup and contined like this until the last one at 2pm. I only hope that our next litter goes in much the same fashion!
  17. dogmad, My dogs are more than happy eating their dry food everyday. They get bones every now and then but are otherwise perfectly happy and very healthy dogs who sneak the odd bit of cucumber, apple etc where they can. In fact they will even train for their dinner. It's a very personal and individual thing which is what a lot of the above poster's have said. And when researching diets for dogs I found that a lot of the reputable sources say that when you take on the role of providing meat, veges etc as a diet for your dog that it is very important to ensure that you do lots of research to ensure that you are providing all of the nutrients, vitamins and minerals etc. that your dog actually needs as opposed to what you think they might 'like'. I'm not saying it's bad and not to even consider it etc. but you think about all the research that goes into producing good quality dog food by these companies and if you want to develop your own diet I think it's important that you are prepared to put in the same amount of research etc. to ensure you are providing a complete and total diet for your dog. There are lots of people who are prepared to do the required research but it's a big ask and I think when you recommend things like this that it's important to mention it.
  18. again the breeder should provide all that information. If it's not ideal i'd be researching foods myself, i'm not into the raw thing, all my kids get Advance feeds and it works really well for them, they like it and are happy to eat it, they are a great weight, have beautiful coats, have lots of energy, stools that aren't huge and sloppy and ultimately they do really well on it. It was also important to us that they had a large breed formula for our pups as that is important for us as is small breed formula for some breeds, plus we needed an active formula for our kids when they were older because 'normal' adult food is not enough to keep up with their level of activity. Basically we looked around at lots of feeds, looked for something from a reputable company, something that had an actual meat as the first listed ingredient as opposed to 'meals' or grains as lots of 'popular' feeds are (including some premium ones!). I personally don't like 'wet' feeds so I knew that wasn't for us either. Something that I could get on a regular basis so I didn't have to worry about lack of supply either. I guess you need to decide what important for you, your puppy's nutritional requirements and what works best for you. Lots of people will tell you, this brand is best, you have to feed this etc etc. BUT all dogs are different even within the breed and what works for my dogs is something that another breeder's dogs turn their nose up at. The important thing is that your pup is healthy, has what it needs to grow and thrive and that you're happy with it too.
  19. I agree that the large breeds always get 'picked on' I've only ever been chased, bitten or harrassed by small white fluffy's and the yapping...omg. But if a big dog in a yard barks - well lets call the police and have them reported.
  20. Luke GSP - it's a bit like the large breed puppy who jumped up on someone and was trying to play. This pup was supposedly 'attacking' said person....ok jumping up isn 't great but it's was a pup and learning.....
  21. Some people on this forum are pretty report-happy. Dogs bark at fences. The dog has not escaped and attacked you. You cannot possibly predict what the dog will do and the dog is obviously contained. You have nothing to report. Mind your own business and cross the road if you don't like it. ETA: My dogs sound fierce behind a fence, but they're very well socialised and friendly dogs. 22. I personally think that if they are in their front yard and you don't like their barking walk on the other side of the road. Not everyone has completely non-reactive dogs and lets face it people, dogs do bark. Short of having their voice box removed what do you suggest? I'm so tired of hearing people carry on about dogs and things they do naturally, some more than others. I have seen someone claim a dog tried to attack them and it was a large breed pup who was simply jumping up to try and play. Yes jumping up isn't great but it was a pup and still learning. All this ''I think it would attack me IF it got out' is nonsense. Did it attack you? No!! It's things like this that make me glad I live so far out of town. My dogs bark when strangers come to our house, I want to know when people are here, why would dogs in town behave any differently simply because they're in a smaller yard. Remember they they are dogs and will do what dogs do, regardless of whether you like it or not. Give them a break, everyone seems out to report everyone every chance they get. It's quite interesting reading information from dog behaviour experts about barking and how barking is normal in dogs, the situations we expect them to be in and not bark is not.

  24. Well we had our 'opening ceremony this morning' Stella couldn't decide which toy was best so she took them all, she graciously let Mia have the odd squeak here and there but just ran around going from one to the other and hoarding them on her bed. She even picked up one of the treat dispensing balls by the cardboard holder bit but it didn't squeak so quickly lost favour. However they've all gone back in the box for x-mas and girls are off with a treat each. I'm thinking I need another order....I mean really, only 2? That's pretty poor form around here. I just want the spend $100 and free shipping deal to come back like last year!!
