  1. +1 I think the Maltese are a very under rated breed. Beautiful little dogs with loads of personality, great with kids if raised correctly, non shedding and no to low odour, easy to care for grooming wise if you keep up with their clipping every 6 weeks and keep their coats relatively short, super loyal and just so damn cute! I would own one again in a heartbeat, just typing this brings memories of my beautiful Honey girl . I dont understand why this breed in its pure form seems to be becoming harder to find, yet Maltese x seem to be the flavour of the month .
  2. Ok update ... Council called back. They sent someone around to the property and the dogs do not live at the address that they rushed out of. They are actually from next door and dug their way out. The kicker is that another incident with these same dogs was reported only 2 days previous to ours. No bite but a lady was rushed by them and very frightened. Apparently the owner will now keep them inside while she is out so that is something. At least we are starting to get some answers.
  3. You can get a report from the doctor who treated him after the bite, to state that it was in fact your son that he treated for a dog bite. Pretty poor effort to be honest. If it was that important for a confirmed picture to be taken then a ranger should have come out to take their own picture of the wound. Whether or not a ranger is sick, someone else should have been assigned to the case when he got ill so that things were not left without being done for a week after the attack. We already have a doc report stating that he treated Anthony on Monday night for a dog bite and he received his tetanus. I agree completely it really is a poor effort all round.
  4. I must say I am pretty disappointed as the bite happened on Monday, Ranger due to come out to my house on Tuesay but he had to postpone due to illness (fair enough), today is Friday and no contact from the Council. No statement has been taken and they have not taken any photo's of the wound (we have our own photo's though).I am about to ring them now and find out what is going on. I certainly hope they have not been as slack about ensuring that those dogs are secure as they have about taking care of this end of things.
  5. Enjoy your holiday in sunny QLD. Lots of cocktails by the pool and massages are in order Judging by Earl's history (future vet bills) this may be the last one you can afford for a while. You will come home to one thoroughly spoilt and happy boy.
  6. This is very interesting. Obviously this issue will not be resolved as quickly as I would like. Going through the process is not a issue, even if it is a long one. How do the rangers ensure that these dogs are off the streets in the interim? Do they carry out random checks on the property? It is quite sad to see my son who has always had a great love for dogs very quickly become very wary of all dogs in general. He mentioned that walking to the bus stop after school yesterday he found himself picking up a rolled up newspaper on the side of the road 'just in case'. We are working on resolving this and I truly hope this does not affect his relationship with dogs in the future.
  7. Thanks for your replies. The officer who was to come out this afternoon is sick so he had to postpone. This is fine as if the man is sick he is sick but my question was is someone able to go to the property and ensure that the dogs are secure. He said that this is there priority and someone will try and make contact with the owners today. He also said that no dogs are registered to that address. The council seems to be taking this seriously which is promising. They did say last night that if the injury is deemed serious enough they wlll prosecute. Hopefully the owners will see sense and realise that their dogs have no right wandering and placing people at risk! The stupidity of some people just does my head in.
  8. Yesterday afternoon my 15 year old son was walking home from school. He was wearing headphones so he did not hear the dogs until one of them had pretty much latched on to his leg. Two medium to large size dogs had rushed out from their property (the gates were wide open). One dog actually bit him whilst the other was lunging, growling and snapping. A neighbour 2 doors up heard the commotion and came out and thankfully helped him and took him into their property, I am so very thankful to these lovely people! In the end apart from being very shaken up he has he has a bite just above his right knee. He is up to date with his tetanus and we have been to the doc to get it cleaned up and get antibiotics, hopefully this should hold of any possible infection. My question what to do in terms of reporting this incident. I have taken photo's of the wound. We also went for a drive and got the exact address and took a photo of the property. The gates were still wide open though no dogs to be seen. I also went to the witnesses house and after thanking her I asked if they would be willing to talk to the council and give a statement. It was her brother who helped my son and he was not at home at the time but she seemed to think he would be happy to do it. I asked her if the dogs had a history of aggression and she said that 'they are always out on the street harassing people'. I have reported this to the council and they seemed to take this very seriously and they had a officer call me back within 20 minutes. He is coming over this afternoon to talk to my son and take a statement. It was bad enough that my son had to deal with this and I shudder to think if it was a poor mum pushing a pram, or a young child that these dogs attacked. I want to take all the steps I can to make sure that these dogs are never in a position to do this again. For all those dolers who have dealt with this situation in the past what can I expect to happen next? The lady at the council I initially spoke to advised that it is actually quite a long drawn out process. That is fine as we are happy to do whatever it takes to address this but my question is is there anything else that we can/should be doing that we have not thought of? Is this incident sufficient to have the dogs declared dangerous? ed for sp
  9. + 1 There are many breeds that I do not think I will ever own, bully breeds amongst them. This is nothing against the breed itself. In fact I have meet quite a few that are a glorious example of their breed and a credit to their owners but what I am after in a dog differs from what these guys have to offer. Never say never though, I used to not particularly like Greyhounds and I am now quite close to fostering/adopting one! I am smitten . I personally thing the recent hysteria regarding certain breeds comes mainly down to ignorance. Education is the key. One big wet kiss from one of those gorgeous Rotti's we have just seen wouldn't have to melt even the hardest heart. Sigh...one day I would LOVE to own one. So many breeds...not enough time.
  10. This is a interesting thread as I have just had this discussion with my best friend. We are both insured with PIA and have been for the last 3 years. We were questioning the benefits of insurance as neither of us have had a need to make a claim (not that I am complaining!). My friend decided to cancel hers but very fortunately never got around to making the call as she was flat out at work. Two nights ago her beautiful GSD became very ill. After a frantic rush to the emergency vets she has been diagnosed with Pyometra . When they got Ruby on the table and opened her up they were forced to abandon the surgery due to the fact that she began bleeding very heavily and they could not stop it. They are now undergoing a battery of tests to discover the underlying cause of the bleeding whilst trying to keep her pyo under control until it is safe to operate, hopefully by this Friday. My friend is a single mum to 3 boys and as the costs have already run over $1500, with more tests and surgery to come she is very grateful that she did not cancel her cover as she could never come up with that kind of money on short notice. She now has the peace of mind to tell her vet to do whatever needs to be done to help diagnose and treat Ruby. Looks like I will be keeping my insurance after all, and please send healing vibes to Ruby.
  11. That's great news . Sounds like she is through the worst of it now. Go Mindy!
  12. So good to hear that Mindy appears to be on the mend. She is obviously a very strong little girl! Prayers and thoughts continue to be with you both.
  13. I am so glad that you and Honey are ok, apart from a huge fright. I hope that this doesn not traumatise Honey too much. Sounds like you did all right things. Good thing this guy was at least in ear shot! This guy sounds like such a monumental jerk . He obviously has learned nothing from the last incident, maybe some substantial fines will make him think twice. Unfortunately some people do not seem to care until it starts to hurt their hip pocket. I feel sorry for the poor Dally, it's not his fault his owner is a ignoramus. Somehow I can't see this situation ending well for this boy . Hugs to Honey, she sounds like such a good girl.
  14. My thoughts are with you. Get better quickly Mindy.
  15. Such brilliant news . And to the scumbag/s who brought so much stress and anxiety to these girls and their families you cant escape Karma...it will come back and bite you on your sorry butts edited for sp
  16. Great post What else can I add except to say Good Grief!!
  17. I am happy beyond words! Well done to all the dolers who came together to help these beautiful girls and their owners A very happy ending indeed!!!
