  1. This is what I found on the website of one of my breed's clubs (I don't belong to it, just pure forgetfulness to join clubs) "The Dalmatian Club of Victoria is an organisation whose purpose is to foster knowledge and understanding of the Dalmatian Breed. Its objectives are to encourage the responsible breeding of pure bred dalmatians, to raise the standard of our dogs, conduct exhibitions, publish information on our breed, and to promote good fellowship and sportsmanship amongst us." I wouldn't copy it word for word, but that should give you an idea
  2. Thanks guys. Starkehre the video was actually easy, made in Windows Movie maker. My first real go at using it. The hardest part really was getting to the beach every Sunday when you're tired, sick, it's raining etc. I want to do it next time as well but think I'll choose somewhere at home for a background (as awesome as that backdrop is, and I love seeing it change over 12 months)
  3. I made a project of taking a photo of my pup every week from 8 weeks and turned it into a video :) it's awesome to look back on, but man what a project
  4. I just emailed. I checked my older email and found a email from 23rd December regarding a current claim from when my two dogs had a fight - apparently you have to fill an additional form in the case of a dog fight. I just said no I won't fill it in as I wish to cancel my policy and i'm forfeiting my right to that claim. Also asked for my email to be passed on to the right person if she wasn't the right one (in more eloquent terms). Also asked for my $120+ to be refunded please as I didn't consent to this new contract. I'm not great with over the phone confrontation so have asked to just be emailed.
  5. Just a quick question. I got a letter in the mail early December (renewal was due 27th Dec) letting me know that my renewal was coming up and my premium as expected was going to increase (by over $20 per dog per month). I didn't want to continue but with my illness in early pregnancy I didn't do anything about it. Now, seeing this thread bumped up again, I checked my bank and they've taken the money out - despite no further correspondence. Is that allowed? Lucky there was JUST enough money left in that account, as I've changed banks and that account no longer gets paid!
  6. That's so nice. I'm so lucky to have a similar relationship with Nala's breeder. I recently had professional photos of her done at a dog show and she said to let her know when they were up on the net as she wanted to have a look. I did so, and then she tells me she's buying them for herself! Lovely to know that she loves this girl so much still, that she's buying photos of her. She's also just sent me texts in the past with a photo of Nala's dad saying look how similar they are! It's wonderful, and something that I miss with Cleo's breeder but I understand that some people are just different and dalmatians are not her "breed" as much as another breed is (her heart breed). I am still grateful to her though, as without her influence I would not be in the place I am today with my dallies.
  7. We got our 2 boxes full today!!
  8. I'm hearing that we should have it by January. I hope...so many people waiting!
  9. Glad to hear I wasn't making it up  with baby brain, anything is possible.
  10. I think they can have something like a heat is not all of the tract is removed (please don't quote me! This is just something i MAY have read) but they are still infertile. And my girl was tattooed but can't find it now, or her scar either.
  11. Can't wait for it here! I may not use it myself, sticking to Advantix but I have many customers who want this (and have been asking for it since Proban left the shelves). Nowstarin, reasons people want an oral treatment over spot on - (this is feedback from customers which is important to take note of, rather than ignore) -they don't like how the spot on can leave the dog greasy for a few days after -some dogs have reactions to certain brands, and want to try something new (or they just insist that a product doesn't work for them) -in my area where dogs can be swimming every day, multiple times a day, an oral treatment is superior in that it can NEVER be washed off. Doesn't matter how waterproof a spot on is, it can be accidentally washed off if bathed too soon after application or by using detergent. -Comfortis, out of the main range that we sell has the highest success rate killing fleas. Now I don't use it, but is it any surprise that people want a similar product that will kill ticks as well?
  12. Well done! I saw this announced on the AusNZ Dal FB page, so happy for you! I certainly hope one day there are several more dallies with that title, you are an inspiration to my spots. We have our moments at training, but I will persevere!
  13. We had our last show of the year on the weekend and we brought Nala's total to 41 points for her first year of showing! Considering we only showed at about 5 events (each 2 or 3 shows) I am extremely proud of Nala for how she's progressed and a little bit at myself as I'm still a newbie and this is the longest I've pursued showing an entire dog (Cleo only made it to minor and was desexed a few months later) Considering I was told (pre-points) that it could take 3 - 4 years to title her, I think we've made great headway and she shows a lot of promise :) The winning is nice, but the lovely words from my competitors is what really makes my heart soar when the person winning best in group (same breed) complimented my girl on the weekend I was all "aw shucks!" Maybe we will have some great wins early 2015 and we will finish this rising star off! Well done to all the rising stars this year :D
  14. I've tried to read the whole thread, so apologies if this was already answered, but are you prepared to wait? I was facebook friends with my younger dogs breeder for a year before I noticed that she was having a litter with my older dog's sister and I let her know of my interest. I was not guaranteed a pup, but she knew what I wanted (I had a specific look and colour in mind, for showing) and because she knew me, saw what I did with my older dog and happily sold me a pup. This pup suits us perfectly. When I first looked for a dalmatian I actually emailed a breeder just to let her know that I was interested, she had no pups at the time. 3, nearly 4 years down the track and she's a good friend and my breed mentor. Just from talking, I never ended up buying a pup from her! But she knows other breeders, and that has opened doors!
  15. How exciting :) I remember the waiting game :) I knew the dog I wanted a pup from was pregnant (friends with her owner/breeder on FB) and expressed my interest and then the painful wait of her whelping, and then waiting for the right markings/colour/sex to appear (I was after a show pup) and because the breed needs to be hearing tested at about 8 weeks it wasn't until 7w 5d or so that I knew EXACTLY which pup I was getting  but it was so worth it. In two days I celebrate Nala's first "gotcha" day when she flew up from Tassie into our lives :D Enjoy your honeymoon and I hope the 5 weeks goes quickly!
  16. I prefer my girls, but then again it's all i've ever had. I'm up to 5 now (counting from childhood), although the boys have definitely earnt a place in my heart and I love the affectionate nature of them and one day I will have a special boy. The penis does put me off, I won't lie! I can still give belly rubs, but I don't enjoy accidentally touching their bits - girl parts are just easier to avoid  One thing that has put me off my girls though is the bitchiness, i've not had the experience of two females since I was about 5 and the memory is sketchy of that time (and they were both spayed). My girls have rumbles, and we have to manage them in certain situations which is not pleasant. They're not aggressive, just like two bloody teenage sisters, all yelling I'd love a nice soft boy to be my sweetheart :D edited for clarification
  17. Oops litters could still be registered ? I know of a recent litter that was an accidental father/daughter mating while the owners were on holidays, housesitters not careful enough etc, they had to be on limited register and the breeders were fined.
  18. The first dog we brought home as a family was Nala, a rotti x lab from the RSPCA (yes, the name inspiration for my current Nala) my memories of her are through rose coloured glasses though, because apparently she wasn't as great as a 5-9 year old remembers. I loved her though, she looked like a rotti but built more like a lab. She died in a freak accident at a young age, but her body had already started to fall apart with HD/arthritis. Her temperament and health issues are reasons enough to not recommend that mix to people (obviously byb bred) First dog as an adult was/is Cleo the dalmatian. She's been a challenge at times, but never something I couldn't handle. I suppose some people would struggle with dallies, and I would never want a smaller yard with these two, as the size we have now is perfect and they can have great zoomies, or we can have a good frisbee session. They are a breed that if they have not had enough walks, will probably leave you a nice hole sized reminder in the backyard but at the same time can have a 20km run and still want more. Insatiable for exercise!
  19. I had a lady ring up my work the other day to see about microchipping as we've had a vet nurse who is also a mobile microchipper do it there in the past. She doesn't now, but I passed on her details for this lady....who then asked me "what's a microchip for?" literally speechless for a moment, before I told her that it stores her details if her dog gets lost....oh and it's sort of compulsory in NSW to have it done *facepalm* I will say however, that some out there can be taught. Another DOLer and myself got a local BSS site to make it mandatory that all pups and kittens on the site are microchipped. Small win.
  20. Can't speak for other chains, but Petstock do. And if they don't have it in stock, they can order. It's the Ezydog brand that they can order in.
  21. My dallies are pretty good at hunting little things (looking at you Cleo) and then looking very guilty and letting me take the "prize" away. Also pretty good at warning any potential scary things away. Got great stamina too, so if physical exertion was required, I could rely on their energy!
  22. I have a Petlife Buster Maze that is the best thing for slowing down a gobbler! It might not look like much, but my girls can't get anything other than a tongue into the maze, so kibble is licked out a few pieces at a time. I didn't buy it for that purpose (more just because it looked cool) and I'm very impressed, moreso now my younger dog has come along and is a gobbler. Whippies have thinner jaws than dallies, but Petlife say they tested this with all sorts of breeds with success. It retails for about $40 but its so worth it, as it can't be tipped over and is a tough plastic.
  23. Hell yeah  Yep, here too. (hubby may get his own breed one day) I like GSP's, and wiem's, but I don't know if I can handle a gundog drive. My girls do have drive, but it's so easy to switch off and despite all the stuff I had read, they aren't that destructive or exercise demanding. There isn't really anything else like a dal either.... but in other breeds, I prefer Aussies over BC's (temp wise and look wise) and mini schnauzers but not any other small fluffy breed.
  24. I use Inteceptor (sentinel minus the flea component) and Advantix. Sentinel is fine to use, no dangerous doubling up there. I would recommend using the Advantix. Only because I don't fully trust collars. Just a probably irrational fear that I have that they wouldn't work for me (I swear the ticks here are particularly vicious)
