  1. My mum's mini schnauzer has a curly tail too! and the hair on the tail is curlier than his leg hair.
  2. Oh oh you should come into my work when he comes home! (Petstock) I am so puppy clucky. Today I had a Belgian malinois come in and I wasted so much time with her :) I have another DOLer come in and introduce their puppy, it was lovely! And today I realized that my new pup might have a very similar birthday to Cleo! So I would be 20 years older than Cleo and Cleo would be 3 years older than pup. And my poor husband would be stuck in October all alone!
  3. I had a bed destroyer....until I took her good bed away until bed time. She had access to old blankets and a tramp bed but not her cozy mattress. She no longer destroys beds, but during crazy hour (5-6) she will muck around with the blankets still. I have spent a lot of money on several beds (and even home made one!) but she never has access to them during the day. It'll be the same with new pup.
  4. Most of my customers with fussy dogs who refuse to eat kibble often cook meat/pander to their every need. And in a lot of these cases, they're just giving meat/pasta/veggies and the dog may be missing out on vital nutrients. One thing I've learnt from here is that if you're going to do the RAW diet, you need to be mindful of the dog's needs - especially puppies. Little dogs do tend to be a bit fussier (just anecdotally) but then again they are more likely to have owners who will cater to their needs (not in all cases, but a fair amount).
  5. I wish I lived near enough to a big city to go to events like this. I wouldn't be stopped going just because there are a few stalls there that I don't like. My work (well Head Office) is having a stall there.
  6. There is a product called a "Rogzlite" by the company "Rogz" or Time Pet Products that make a light like that second photo. They are extremely bright (hubby used our blue one as a torch the other night when we went fishing). And the Rogz ones in particular come in 4 colours (blue, red, pink and clear). They are currently on promotion at Petbarn and Petstock (until 30/4) free with any lead/collar/harness but normally cost $10-15 depending on the store. They are either clipped on to the collar or they can clip on as well.
  7. Aw I want my pup only 9 months until she's due to come into heat. 3 months down from when I first found out. Little spotties are so cute, I need baby spotty hugs!
  8. At the moment I only have 1 short coated breed and my back is reasonable. I would not be able to wash two or more dogs in a row, I cramp up and it hurts a lot once I finish the first dog. Would probably be different if I had a raised bath, but I don't. I'm very glad I don't have to do a lot of grooming and clipping. Showing itself is fairly easy, my husband helps me with everything. Even though I'm generally always in some degree of pain, I do push myself and will carry my show stuff. Sitting for long periods hurts, but I just get up and walk around. The day itself doesn't hurt as much as the night. But of course, very dependent on your specific problem. I've been told it's just a soft tissue injury - because they can't find anything else.
  9. You're in the same area as me, it cost me $234 to have a Dalmatian pup flown to Coffs from Tasmania. I think it was Jetpets? I thought it was a bargain! (Sorry to hijack the thread a little.) Yeah I have a quote from Jetpets, for $300 and thought that wasn't too bad. How'd your pup go with flying and how'd you like the service? --Lhok She was just like any normal puppy as soon as she got out, wasn't upset or scared, flight had been slightly delayed too. I believe there was a stop in Sydney or Melbourne. Peed on me when I got her out of the crate :) I say it was my Cleo blessing. I can't really comment on service coz the breeder organized everything for us, and we paid her the money for the flight. When I actually think about it now, I'm surprised how normal and happy she was! I would think it would be terrifying for a 9-10 week old! My next pup is only in Tamworth, and the breeder and I are good friends now so I will be happy to road trip that!
  10. I'm a fidos fan :) I use the white and bright coz it brings her up so nicely!

  12. Cleo's (Dalmatian) learnt to bark off the (slightly senile) SBT x lab that belongs to my inlaws. Whilst it's annoying when they bark, they only do it when something is trying to get to the gate (dog/human). I doubt they would do anything if someone came in. Cleo's never growled at a human, she loves adults but children freak her out a bit. Can't say what she would do if I were threatened, we have a very close bond and she reacts off my body language but she's definitely not like the lab we've had since I was 10. Meg the lab would protect me from Mum if Mum and I were to muck around and tickle each other! But would let me "get" mum. She also hated drunks.
  13. That's interesting. I got this off the Bayer site. " Can a reduction in efficacy be observed in dogs treated with advantix which swim frequently? To evaluate this, studies were carried out which provided for complete immersion of the dog in water for 60 seconds at weekly intervals. advantix is distributed over the body surface and remains in the lipid stratum which has hydrophobic properties; like all products of this type it is subject to the impact that the duration of baths has on the animal's skin. Lengthy and frequent baths involve increased cutaneous exchange with greater dilution of the lipid stratum and a consequent reduction in the concentration of product present in this stratum. The product remains efficacious even if the animal takes a bath. However, in the case of prolonged and frequent exposure to water, it may be necessary to repeat the treatment more than once a month, up to a maximum of once a week." from here : http://www.animalhealth.bayer.com/4869.0.html Look, I like Advantix and I use it and sell it. Im pretty sure you, Nowstarin are the rep for my area (correct me if im wrong). When you visit us next, maybe you can go over this again with us and tell us why it says on the Bayer site that you may need to reapply if your dog swims a lot (this is Coffs, dogs DO swim a lot here)
  14. That site for the generic Advantix is a little misleading with the waterproof claim. Even Advantix is only "water proof" if your dog swims less than once a week, and then it recommends treating more often (from the Bayer site). Would be so good to have a cheaper version to have though. The online stores sell their Advantix for the same price as my work buys it in for! A cheaper version would be awesome.
  15. Im currently in the process of writing to my local member. He's going over to Europe for an ANZAC service next week, but I'm going to try and meet with him as well. I've got a couple of (registered) cat breeders as customers of mine as well that Im hoping will stand beside me in our little local fight.
  16. never had grass stains here. And she rolls around on the grass on her back wrestling!
  17. I always get compliments on my Dalmatian. Inside i'm like "she's yellow! She needs a bath!" and then I told a workmate she had mozzie bites on her head and they were brownish tinged. He couldn't see them. In a way, the white is high maintenance to keep looking really bright, but I would not swap it for the world because when it's clean it's amazing.
  18. he's a dally :) lol. Since getting Cleo a thundershirt, she whines less when she can see me/can't get to me. Calms her down noticeably within minutes. Not that Im saying Gus needs it. Poor thing, I hope you get this sorted for him soon. Cleo is a food machine but nowhere near this extent! There is a Dalmatian group on facebook that I'm a member of, it's dallies of Aus and NZ and it's all owners and breeders. You may get more dally specific advice there? We all know about purines there :) PM me if you want details.

    Tick Collar

those reviews are worrying. I know that more people are inclined to complain if they're unhappy as opposed to positively review if they are happy but those reactions, coupled with a product taking 2 weeks to become fully activated...hmmm. Working in a pet store, when most people want something, they want to it work NOW. Preventic is a very commonly used tick collar in my area, outsells Kiltix 3:1.
  20. Maybe ask if you can buy one? We used to sell them if people really didn't want to buy the food. Might be worth a try? Corporate Pet Barns and Pet Stocks probably can't (can only sell "approved" items" but franchises or independents might :) Im naughty. I give away Advance bins with other brands coz my customers ask so nicely and it makes me feel good. Plus the Mars rep is not very nice. She looks down on us because we don't stock the full range of Mars products.
  21. some people don't read instructions apparently. The guy who was dosing the frontline on the food apparently called Frontline up and was getting quite angry about the product not working.....well maybe he should of read the box first!
  22. They are sooo hard to open! Airtight yes! I've got one (or two...maybe...coz of the dally) and mine rust - but I do live extremely close to the beach. if exposed metal doesn't rust around here - im amazed! The best one so far is the Royal Canin one from last year (and it has a pic of all different breeds!) The iams ones are dodgy. The new Advance ones we have at the moment seem decent but clipping 15 together killed my thumbs!
  23. Well tonight I had a training session with Pfizer/Zoetis which is Revolution and I actually learnt a few things. I didn't know that it was systematic (blood stream) as well as in the hairs and on the skin. That means it can't be washed off like the other two. If it did ticks I'd be using it. She also told us some stuff about Comfortis that has now made me uncomfortable to recommend it ever again. I know it's not her product (there is no Elanco rep for petshops) but she did tell us that apparently it's being pulled from the shelves of our chain (because there is no rep to give proper advice). I think it does a great job but I'm now concerned that in the wrong hands this product could do some damage. I have heard stories of people dosing Frontline anally and in food - so you can't be too careful.
  24. This is what the breeder of my next pup and mentor seem to describe it as. She wants to use a particular dog over her bitch, as he is quite nice, but she's unsure because it would be an "outcross" and not the same line at all. My interpretation (could be wrong) is that linebreeding gives you pups that "breed true". If you have an outcross, to a "different" looking dog, the pups could have traits from mum or dad - rather than all looking like the one line. This could be good if there is something in particular you want to introduce, but I think most breeders would try to find a dog of similar lines with the trait they want. Introducing LUA Dalmatians to Australia will be a huge outcross, because the lines will be quite different to what is already here. I hope I've explained myself well. I'm still learning and it's good to write it down and try to convey what's in my head. My husband doesn't listen.
