Haha we're still on the first collar! Cleo was out of the same size by this age, but Nala's got a fine little neck. Good value for money lol. -
Positive step for me, I talked to the guys at the bike shop next to my work and we talked about what i'm doing and the best set up for me, so we're going for a Giant and I think it's a hybrid sort, not a road bike and not a mountain bike but sort of both. Another bonus is the $100 discount WOO! That helps, can't wait for it to arrive, now i'll be watching out for my deliveries and their deliveries!

Labrador With A Strong Doggy Smell
dotdashdot replied to Ivory & Beau's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Now that I think of it, our lab has a doggy smell too and yes worse when wet! We lived next to a creek (salt water) and she had a swim nearly every single day while she lived there, including the day she whelped pups! (she was like Ew! Let me cleanse myself) My dallies don't smell, the only time I smell anything is if I pat them if they haven't had a bath in a while and my hand gets oily - and that smells. I probably bathe them more than some people (couple times a month) because they go yellowish instead of white after a few weeks - not that non dally people can really tell  -

Just discovered that my baby has lost 4 teeth!! Her 4 front ones, not the canines, the tiny little front ones. Am I happy that she's growing up or sad that i'm losing puppy breath so soon? -

glad i'm not the only one with a "broken" dog lol (I use that term affectionately) Cleo needs a life jacket to swim, she freezes when her ears get wet, which is usually in deeper water and freezing in deep water means you sink lol. Her "type" of water is the waves at the beach. Already Nala shows more confidence, she has willingly come out to shoulder height (for her, which is like 25cm?) but it helps that its summer and the water that day was so warm! Cleo was a winter baby. Only just over a week until our show debut! SOOOO excited! -
Those Bunning compost panels do very well for blocking access to the front seat of a car. I imagine with some thought you might be able to make a custom crate for your back seat. Only needs to last a few nights. Add in a baby monitor and you'll be set. I'll pitch the idea to my husband, we do have an x trail which is a good size for the 2 dogs.

This topic is timely for me! Rather than starting a similar topic of my own, can I ask if anyone knows of accommodation(like cabins) around Orchard Hills where we can bring the dogs inside (in crates). We're trying to organize our first Specialty show experience but we don't have a trailer and I don't trust my girls in the car alone. I looked at Nepean Shores, and that might be a last resort, as I would like to avoid them sleeping outside in their crates in late April.

Good! I work in a pet store, and people are allowed to bring their dogs in, but some still leave them in cars! Not necessarily our customers, some visit the Salvation Army store that we share a carpark with, but we would happily allow a dog to be tied up outside our store (in the shade and where we provide water) rather than see a dog in a car. Now if I catch anyone doing it, I will remind them of the law.

We had a bit more fun today than last week! I just took my little point and shoot, so nothing spectacular. We met up with my parents and their dogs at the beach (1 x deaf and senile old lab and 2 x mini schnauzers) poor Nala was scared of them, she has obviously forgotten that Benji the schnauzer was her best friend a month ago We haven't seen them since she was about 9 weeks old. This shot is her chilling by the creek with my handsome husband (who needs a haircut)

Nala spent her first real day out with the big kids today. My FIL opened the sliding door so she could come and go from the living room/puppy pen area to the outside as she pleased and apparently they went really well. She's sleeping well now!! She was also playing the fussy card last night and this morning. I took it away and then gave it back after a few mins and she ate it. Hard part is teaching OH that i'm not being a mean person, she's trying to play us  . I will not create a fussy dog! We did get some Livamol today (ordered it before the fussiness started) to see how her coat goes with a bit of extra help and just that made her eat all her dinner in double time!! lol. I'm wondering if it will unify her colour, not that it's bad or anything (and there is no colour standard for liver dallies) but she's beautifully chocolate brown on the back of her ears and then a rich dark chocolate colour everywhere else. She's also getting so many new spots!!! Very cute, every day I feel so blessed to have her in my life, I can't believe I, I of all people, scored this beautiful dog. She seems to good for me!! -
Well my dogs clean up after the birds and I can't say there is a negative effect, as you say they are very high in fat/oil (not so great for birds) so I wouldn't give many. And I second grinding/pulverising, I can tell when the birds have spilt a lot of seed - spotty poop. They seem to really really enjoy bird seed! I can make Cleo do tricks for it! Now I've switched 3 of my birds to pelleted diet only, and that too is very popular with the doggies lol

I don't have a whole lot of advice, I'm really lucky that my pup is walking really well on lead and always has from when I first clicked the lead on. I would do as you have already said and go back to basics, walking in the backyard. Find his currency, something that he'll do anything for (maybe a different sort of treat?) and try again. Make it fun! I don't know what others would do, but I wouldn't praise for pulling as that isn't really what you want and training a dog to not pull again can be a challenge, so try save yourself that trouble. Maybe try joining a proper obedience club (my local one runs a "canine college" which is a pre-req to proper obedience classes) so they can see your pup and may see something that we can't through the computer :) I also personally wouldn't use a harness unless you really need to (i.e flat collar not suitable for some reason), for some dogs that encourages pulling and as you said it hasn't changed his habit.

My girls are the same with fluffy toys, the minute they see a weakness they have to disembowel it. I've got no tips re. cameras lol, my hubby knows a lot more than me, I mainly use Auto function but it is a Canon 5D mark III which takes awesome photos on auto. -

14 weeks today... She's been pretty good these last couple of days, I've been quite crook and no good for anything but she's been fairly quiet thank goodness. -
1/52 with Nala. I'm a bit sick today, and so it's not very interesting, and I don't want to use my weekly Sunday pic unless I have nothing else! So here is my little old soul...
-
This year I WILL do it! I had a bike disaster last year, last time I buy a not-even-that-cheap bike from Big W. I have a good bike shop next to my work, hopefully they'll give me a discount on a GOOD bike! So looks like July 13 for me :) Now the hard part....teaching Cleo to go slower than she's inclined to.
-
Another full time worker here, and my pup is 13 weeks old and going very well. I also have a 2 year old dog who has managed just fine. Isn't saying all full timers can't raise a pup sort of like saying all XXX breed are aggressive/fearful/high strung which is not always true?
-
Awesome. I take my posed shots every Sunday :)
-
So will this officially start like as of this weekend? The first weekend of 2014? I'm so keen lol.
-
I'd like to jump in - i'll be doing doggy photos too. I've been photographing Nala in the same spot on the beach every week since 8 weeks so I expect that will be my failsafe if I don't take any other pics!

hey 3/21 is an awesome effort. I was happy when Cleo got 2/3 lol! She looks so proud of her prize :) I'm wondering about the prizes...apparently my work will be donating/providing some prizes....do I still get to use a discount voucher if I already get a staff discount? -
Wow, I love Brittanys and I have met one in real life! Another breed that I love but I don't know if I could handle a working breed. That said, if I knew as much about dallies as I know now I wouldn't have thought I would be the right owner and here I am now! Nala is 13 weeks now, 1 month to go until our first show. When I put this photo up on FB the breeder commented and it really made my day (or week, or month) she said she was proud of us :D

Sorry to hear your xmas wasn't great We had such a quiet one that it didn't really feel like Christmas, not that I minded. I've missed seeing you while I was on hols too - back now though. -

Haha Luvsdogs that's why the night before I show I wash, dry and crate them until we leave in the morning! Especially since bathing seems to induce zoomies and Cleo's zoomie track around the house has quite a bit of dirt! Dallies are pretty wash and wear though, you can just wipe them clean again for a spot clean but i'm a bit crazy and like my dogs properly clean (Cleo and Nala have both had 2nd baths after running away before!) How did she go in the show?
