I've also met someone who had a "Dogue" it was blue pied. Looked very Neo to me, and such wonky legs (moreso than normally gangly pups). They are local, but I haven't seen it in my shop since that first day.

15/52 Nala on Sawtell headland at sunrise. Not sure about the editing job, it's the first time using my husband's techniques...

I find black dogs gorgeous, of course i'm biased....our family's black lab is about to turn 13, here are some obligatory photos...she's always been so shiny, it's something I love about black dogs - and the dirt doesn't show up half as much! (I now have Dalmatians, the difference is amazing)

Happy birthday Rosie and Gus! They are both gorgeous, but I love Gus' face! Flatties are so pretty (or handsome in Gus' case). -

Just thought i'd update, Nala is now 6 months old where does that time go. We haven't had any shows since our first lot, I didn't want to travel long distances when she couldn't earn points. Now we have shows nearby AND she can start getting points. Nala has a lot of work to do, her brother has been smashing it in Tasmania! We were planning to go to the Dalmatian Specialty in Sydney this month but finances stopped that. It would have been nice to have the siblings together again. This photo is at 5.5 months old. How are all the other pups going?

haha me too! I thought Cleo had a brown spot for a while, but I realized it can't be pigment because if you have to squint really hard and get it in just the right light - it's probably NOT a liver spot. And I guess with tricolor dals, unless the dal had spots in just the right points (same as a rotti or dobe) you wouldn't know they were a tri. I often tell people too much info about what colours Nala will produce. I get all excited and say "if she's mated to a liver, she'll have all livers. If she's mated to a black carrying liver they can have anything, and if it's a black dominant boy all pups will be black"...people usually lose interest though. -

It really is amazing what you hear some adults telling their children. Working at an animal park and then a pet store really opens your eyes...but even just visiting zoos can blow your mind (about the ignorance) Yea no long haired dals in Aus, the gene didn't make it here. We have tri colours though, popped up last year in WA but fairly rare. I friended Tina the Long Haired dal on FB. She's in the US and has lots of LH dal friends, I just like the pics, amazing looking dogs - but not super dal looking because of the way the hair distorts the spots. -

totally an honorary spot. Not many dogs get mistaken for a dally so i reckon he can join the spot club. -

Well done Lisa! So awesome, Nova is such a pretty dog. Last night at agility I shamelessly stood as close as I could to the two aussies in my class. And then we have a red merle BC as well and I gave him big pats. Love my spots but by god I love merle dogs too. -

Shivers he's a big boy! Nala was 18kg a week and a half ago and I thought that was big (considering Cleo is 22kg fully bulked out) He looks so big and powerful in that shot :) He's so going to need an XL harness soon! -
Getting Your First Show Quality Pup
dotdashdot replied to Homeriver's topic in General Dog Discussion
I could write a long post about my own journey but basically my first dog was pure luck - I know NOW that not many breeders will sell a show potential bitch on mains. In Cleo's case, I never set out to get a show dog and didn't even know what mains registration was. I learnt a lot in 2011  But my second dog, was planned long in advance and I had a fairly good idea of what I wanted. The breeder and I knew each other through a facebook group for our breed (a great resource) and also because we bought litter sisters - which we never knew until we met on this FB group. We had a good dialogue and she knew/knows my plans and now really enjoys watching her pup grow up through my prolific photo posting. I think also, that she "knew" me for quite some time before I approached her about the litter and had an idea of what I do with my dogs (eg. I show, I've started obedience and agility) I can't express how amazing FB has been for introducing me to people that I may never have met otherwise. I've talked with breeders in Tassie (where my girls come from) to WA and closer to home in NSW. -
A Good Breed For Someone With Anxiety?
dotdashdot replied to kiwifeathers's topic in General Dog Discussion
Agree about the showing. It's lots of fun, and I know how people can be at shows but my last show left me a bit tattered, it was the first time i'd had a personal attack. Luckily i'm surrounded by real friends in the show world who ripped into him (without my knowledge) but if they hadn't been there I would have been a wreck - and I don't have diagnosed anxiety. -
Desexing Female- Better To Wait After First Heat Cycle?
dotdashdot replied to ronja's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
My older girl was desexed at 12 months, and was about to come into her second heat. I originally was planning to continue to show and breed her but for several reasons I decided not to and that's why I did it at that age. (She's a Dalmatian, 22kgs so not a large breed but definitely a breed that I feel should be allowed to mature before desexing) It's hard to explain exactly how I think it's different, I would say more "mature" but i'm not sure if that's the right word. Her nipples are larger than if she had been desexed younger (she also had a phantom pregnancy) and she also "marks" particularly over the places my puppy toilets. I know a lot more now than I did in early 2012 though and I will now never desex early unless I sell a dog that I never want bred from (i.e a deaf dog, a problem in my breed). There are also a couple of options where surgery is not done but the animals are unable to get pregnant/impregnate but the hormones are still present - these are also viable options. -
Congrats KumaAkita!

12/52 Nala is growing up so fast. In one more week she'll be six months!

thank you! Good to know. Found another show that I hadn't written down though, that makes up for it.

Hoping someone can help me - I've written this down as a show to enter in May 6th and 7th, in my diary. Now, I can't find any info on the DOL event diary, or in my gazettes. I googled "Maclean dog show" and i'm not crazy, there is something on those days, but I can't find a schedule so I can enter it. Can anybody give me a link or some pointers about where to look? Thanks!

Luvsdogs did you sign up for a Dr. Katrina thing on FB? My workmate tagged me in a post, and one of the people picked had a jap spitz called Laci and I thought it might be you? If it is, let me know how it is! I saw the post way too late to participate but would have been interesting.
