Arrgghhh I did a long post and it stuffed up and I lost it grr!! Anyway, in short, we're getting a Kaparla golden retriever pup in 4 weeks! A boy one, called Chester! Here is a pic: We're not sure which one is ours yet, hopefully we will find out soon! I'm so excited!! Our eldest daughter (Adelaide, 20 months) is excited and just loves dogs! Our youngest girl (Zoe, 6 months) is too young to know lol! But they both love our kitten so I'm sure they'll love the pup! I'm going to go look over all the posts now to see gorgeous puppy pics!!

I never used to like dogs!! I used to be a cat person 100%, but now I'm more of a dog person than a cat person! I do love birds, very much, they're amazing creatures!

Wow that's crazy!! There are maltese x shih tzus at the pet shop near us for $750!!! No papers and advertised as pure bred!! (I was so tempted to ask the man behind the desk how a cross bred dog can be pure bred lol)

We have bought a crate (42 inch for a boy golden retriever pup) and we will put it in the loungeroom next to a chair during the day. Now, do we take the same crate to the bedroom each night? Is that what people do? As we think we'd like him to sleep next to the bed. Or do they prefer to sleep in the lounge? Thanks heaps

I asked in the golden breed section but no replies. Anyone have an idea? Would this one be ok? ebay crate What is better? Soft or metal? Also, as we have two young girls, what is a good way to train the pup out of play biting? Thank you heaps!!!

My breeder sent me an information pack before we pick up our pup with a what to buy page. On it states: "A medium length canvas (not nylon) lead and a fine link metal check chain or a leather one, approx 50 cms long will suffice from puppy-hood to adult years. A leather collar and name tags are a necessity if there is any chance your puppy may get out or go walkabout." Why do you think she doesn't like nylon leads? We bought a lovely nylon one a few weeks ago. And what is a check chain? Do pet stores sell these too? Thanks

I've compiled a list of my most favourite breeds that I am hoping to research and own one day!! Ever since joining DOL I've often found myself daydreaming about different breeds, and seeing everyone's signatures and reading their experiences of their beautiful dogs really makes me smile! What a lovely community! Anyway, here they are 1. Golden Retriever We get our golden boy pup mid August! I've had experience with a few goldens when I was younger, who were never properly looked after (In short, elderly owner, back problems, unable to walk them or play with them, so I walked them and played with them every second day at least, she was my next door neighbour). We're all so excited, but he will be an only dog until our young girls are much much older!! They are 6 months and 19 months. Busy times ahead!! 2. Greyhound My partner grew up with many many greyhounds (and rottweilers!!) and loves them so much! I've become fond of them too! We went to greyhound racing one day and got the chance to meet sooo many beautiful greyhounds and they were all so lovely! (I don't neccesarily agree with racing) So hopefully we can one day own a retired racer and give him/her a lovely retirement! 3. Borzoi OMG they are the most amazing looking dog I've ever seen! I saw one at the park the other day and wow! Beautiful!! I know next to nothing about this breed though so a lot of research will be done over the years!! 4. Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever Again I know next to nothing about these but they look so lovely! Does anyone own one on here? 5. Mini Schnauzer My partner has a thing for the little guys! So no doubt I should add it to the list! Does anyone else just randomly find themselves daydreaming about which breeds of dog they'd like to own at least once in their life? Or am I odd? LOL A few breeds I love, but I doubt I could ever own one due to their requirements are: Australian Shepherd Border Collie Blue Heeler Kelpie Breeds my family owned while I was growing up (not the same thing as owning yourself though I understand!!) are: Labrador x Golden Yorkshire x Australian Terrier And a beautiful little Schipperke that I spent a lot of time with! What are the breeds that you would love to own one day? Or do you have any breeds you love but think maybe you wouldn't own one due to their requirements etc? (PS: I love this site! So much information!! I think I joined three or four weeks ago and I've spent 50+ hours on here just looking through pages!!)

My inlaws use Optrex eye wash (comes with an eye bath thing), and just put a bit on a cotton ball each day and wipe, and their eyes are snow white

I thought pedigree pets had less chance of requiring vet treatment due to health tested parents? :-/

I'm pretty sure its not a registered breeder, just a friend of hers who had pups, no papers or anything. They have a little dog now, I'm pretty sure she's an outside dog, so the husky might be too.

My friend is interested in getting a husky pup ($700, no papers) and has 3 kids under 3 and two older kids. Husband works long hours. Do they require much training? I'm just concerned and want my friend to be prepared as I love her dearly and want the best for her Any help would be greatly appreciated

I joined because I fell inlove with a puppy in a pet shop, so I went home and researched the breed (maltese x bichon) which led me here to a post on why not to buy pet shop dogs and why to buy pedigree pure bred dogs!! Now with much disgust from both sides of the family (why would you spend $1200 on a puppy, what if it dies etc.), we are getting our pup in mid August Any ideas on how to comeback to such negative reactions? One family member said 'i can get you a beagle for free' and another has said 'get it off the trading post or out of the newspaper' Grr...
