  1. I don't give him pasta??!! Thanks, he never ate his dinner tonight so I might try and vary it some more. The mix of proplan and black hawk is because he was weaned onto proplan, but we want to feed black hawk and everyone said to mix it and slowly change over. Thank you
  2. We feed Chester (8.5 weeks) using the breeders recommendation closely but not identical, and puppy always seems to want more. Does this sound ok? 9am - 250ml veanavite drink (full cream milk powder) with a tablespoon of yoghurt and breadcrumbs until its creamy (breeder does this until 6 months old, he usually only ends up eating a half to 3/4 of it) 12-1pm - 1 cup of kibble (mix of black hawk and pro plan) with a raw egg, two sardines and a slice of cheese broken up. He demolishes this meal and licks the bowl for ten minutes afterwards! 5-6pm - 100-200gms mince with mixed vegies 8pm - another milk drink minus the breadcrumbs He also gets a handful of kibble for training treats during the day, and water. He just seems to follow us into the kitchen all the time and stares at us making us feel guilty lol!! Does it sound ok? I tried him on a chicken neck but it was gone in 3 bites!! The breeder soaks their kibble but we just mix it up with something wet like yoghurt or the egg. Thank you for any suggestions
  3. Chester seems to think our kitten is a puppy and plays rough with her. They chase each other around, tumble over each other, nip each other, puppy barks at her with his bum in the air and tail wagging, kitten meows and swipes at him with her paws when she's had enough and if she's really had enough of him she'll jump up the back of the couch where he can't get to her! Is it ok for them to play like this? Thanks

  5. Here are a few photos of Chester Him sleeping in his crate Playing with the cat, his new best friend!! Close up of him sleeping With his favourite toy, a retrieving duck with an empty water bottle inside it which makes crunchy noises!!
  6. So Chester is due for his second vaccinations on the 5th of September, when he will be roughly 12 weeks. The lady that does obedience classes closest to us suggests anywhere between 8 and 12 weeks to start them in the puppy course. Does he need his second lot of vaccinations before we start? If so, can we start a few days after the 5th? Will this be too late? I wonder why they start them at 8 weeks if most pups haven't been fully vaccinated?
  7. Aww thank you It's so lovely having people to talk to about things like this and who offer great advice
  8. So I read that link, and tonight I fed him mince, vegies and yoghurt all mixed up in a different dish, and put his bowl down empty, and made him sit while I put one spoon in and let him eat it while I was standing next to his dish. Then I repeated it, and when he was about halfway through his dinner I started putting spoon by spoon into his dish while he was eating from it, and no problems at all! Just a happy puppy with a happy tummy! I reckon I'll keep doing this for a bit, and eventually lead to me picking up his bowl and adding more and putting it back down. Thank you everyone
  9. Thanks guys! Will read in a minute! Will also do the walk past thing with some mince tonight! We have had him for a grand total of 3 nights lol!! He's such a delight in every other aspect, and he's only growled etc for 2 out of the 6 times he's been fed, and we can pat the top of his head while he eats, just not the sides near his mouth, hence why I said it was mild aggression. Thank you
  10. I just put some kibble in his bowl and held onto it and added to it bit by bit and he was fine, no growling, just happy pup. Should I continue this for a bit each day? And do it with his dinner etc? He also takes his food rewards (just his kibble pieces individually) for training to sit and drop etc gently. Hmm..
  11. Haven't asked the breeder yet, might email in a minute. Hmm.. the one thing I didn't want in a pup and it happens lol. We have two young girls so we definitely need it fixed. Will me sitting down holding the food bowl while he eats be beneficial at all? Or even dividing food into two bowls and switching occasionally?
  12. Thanks guys. I would love professional help but we are strapped for cash at the moment so I'd rather find a few ways of helping the problem now rather than later when we can afford it!! Puppy is a golden retriever from a great breeder here in tassie. A few dol members have dogs from there too. Thanks for the advice so far!!
  13. Our pup is 8 weeks old and has mild food aggression. If we give him his dish of food, and then try to put our hands near it, he growls and snaps. Is this normal in pups? I'd hate to see what he is like with a bone!! Should we just try and hold his bowl while he eats? Or hand feed him? Or throw some treats in there or something?
  14. We gave him one, thawed, three bites and he swallowed it. Much unlike our cat who takes an hour to demolish one. Should we try frozen? Or something else?
  15. How do we deal with him when he mouths us then? What do we do to correct him?
  16. I've just read lots of old posts on teaching bite inhibition the Ian dunbar way, or teaching straight away no mouthing humans or clothing etc ever. What is best do you think with two young kids in the house? Under 2 years old. How should we go about it in easy to understand terms? Please help! This is incredibly important for us with our girls! Thank you!
  17. We feed our kitten a chicken neck every second day, and just wondering if these would be good for our pup? If so, how many and how often? Can he eat them just plain thawed out? Or is frozen better? Thank you
  18. Hey guys! Chester's first night went so well!! He only woke up once to go outside for a wet, and slept so well!! He didn't cry or get upset or anything!! The girls love him to bits and he is just so beautiful! Will put a photo up later when I'm on the laptop!!
  19. Our first night was lovely he woke up once to go outside for a wet, and slept beautifully, didn't cry or anything! He's a bit frightful of all the new noises and the cat, but otherwise he is just delightful! A million praises to his breeder, he is just amazing and everything with his purchase went so smoothly and every question gets answered with a friendly reply
  20. This may sound like a silly question, but we just got our pup home for the first time and he is sleeping and has been for the four hour drive home, well most of it, had a bit of dinner, and is sleeping again. Should we wake him? I have visions of him not wanting to sleep tonight if he sleeps so much now! What would you do?
  21. We picked Chester up today he is absolutely beautiful!!! I still have the flu and a pounding headache, need to buy more advil. We are all inlove with him! The mum dog was so gorgeous and friendly too!! At the moment he is curled up asleep under the baby bouncer lol!!
  22. 2 sleeps to go for us!! We got Chester's portfolio in the post today! With a sample 1kg pack of proplan! Have been busy putting that and the black hawk into containers! It's amazing how much black hawk you get for under $100.. 20kg is heaps!!!
  23. Maybe I shouldn't have read that... we have two very young girls and getting our first dog on Saturday
